Does anyone else watch the show? It reminds me a lot of Buffy.

I just finished Season Two (the 10th doctor, I think).

I dunno, anyone watch it??
 
Hehe... Just watch The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit and revel in the Buffyishness.

Tell me that's not a hellmouth there...
 
Russell T Davies was quite happy to acknowledge Buffy as a big influence when Who was re-launched all those years ago 😉 Crikey! Was it really back in 2005?
 
It's quite hit and miss I think, but mostly hits I reckon. There's some hands down classic tv in there like Blink and The Doctor Dances.
 
I'm doing a complete rewatch at the moment, in preparation for the special next month.

It is a brilliant show, with excellent casting people!


Edit: I dont think any of the below count as spoilers since it's widely known the companions change regularly and the doctor changes - there's no details how how things go down

Once Tennant takes over in season 2, the show really hits it's stride and starts to get better and better

David and Billie are just fantastic together, the next companion, Martha, I didn't enjoy my first time round, but she gets pretty cool in the season 3 finale, and I liked her much better during my rewatch (I think the first time I just wanted Rose back).

Then Donna. Oh Donna, she is just phenomenal, and season 3 has one of the most brilliant finales, then we get some specials that are not as good, till Tennants last episodes and they are amazing!

The season 2 Finale, season 4 finale, and Tennats last episodes should be used as a soul-detector test, if you aren't balling your eyes out, you need to consult your doctor as you may not be human/have a soul.

Matts run with Any and Rory is brilliant, but I think it has slacked a little in the most recent series, but it does also feel a bit like it's all been building towards the special next month, so it might all pay off.

I've been watching Dr. Who on and off since I saw the first episode when it first appeared on the TV. Understanding this season 2 or season 6 stuff they are spouting is damned confusing.
Does that mean the first thirty or forty years were season 1?

What do you think of the tardis? according to a dvd I have the BBC special effects guys for that show built it and used as a place to go for a quiet smoke, given the number of people at the BBC who began use it, it soon became a 'think tank'.
 
I love Doctor Who, though I've only watched New Who. I prefer Eccleston and Tennant's eras to Smith's. I'm so excited for the 50th anniversary special. 🙂

No. It's just re-numbered for the new series. So, New Who and Origin Who (at least in my mind). It seems to me that even people who haven't watched the original series have great respect for it. I have not watched too much- I was raised with a geeky dad and I remember him watching it on PBS. And I've seen some older episodes here and there. I hope to watch more!

And to the OP: yes I'm a big fan, and of Torchwood as well. Since we just discovered Doctor Who 2 years ago, my 6 year old and I have watched every episode of the new series. In fact, we just watched Planet of the Dead yesterday. I realized that it is not included in Netflix's instant streaming of the show, so I ordered it from Netflix on DVD. He has a Doctor Who t-shirt, lunch box, a couple of sonic screwdrivers, comic books, and other toys. Yes, we're obsessed.

And I went to middle school with John Barrowman.
 
A few years back I bought a dvd of The Quatermass Experiment, an early tv series. Long before Dr. Who hit the screens, you might like that. That is where you'll see why the blue police box was first built.
I also bought the first Dr. Who episodes on dvd, odd to see it in black and white.

I really, really, really want to post the brand new trailer to the 50th Anniversary special, but I'm afraid it would be spoiler-y for [MENTION=11281]Pike[/MENTION]!

I hope to be caught up before October is over, lol

I have seen a few things from the 50th.. but not really too much. I've done pretty decent at staying away from spoilers, hahah

I agree. For every great episode there's a complete poop.

Still, I'm looking forward to the Day Of The Doctor next month.

And hopefully more of Jenna Coleman! Mmmm... sweet Jenna....
 
I just love Who and being a Whovian (Doctor Who fan), I am proud of the fact that I love the show. I grew up with Who - starting with Jon Pertwee (3rd Doctor) and have watched religiously ever since.

Some of the original Who episodes were filler episodes, basically rubbish - even though I watched them all. Same goes for the new Who - a couple of filler episodes where the scripts and/or the acting was weak (in my opinion).

One or two of the people that played the Doctor I thought were rubbish too - they wouldn't have been my choice. Which brings me to Matt Smith.

I think he's been the worst Doctor yet. Has he got ants in his pants? He's continually bouncing about and cracking less than funny jokes. Personally I'm glad he's gone so that now we can, maybe, get back to the semi-serious side of the Doctor (see Tennant's run).

Russell T Davies shouldn't have given up the reigns to Steven Moffat. Moffat, although a good writer doesn't know (again my opinion) how to write suspense and build tension like Davies does/did. Some of the Eccelstone and Tennant episodes were so atmospheric and tense, some were even down right scary and I'm 46!

I don't want to start an arguement here even though I'm sure you guys will discuss at some point - every thing I've said here is just my opinion.
 
I think Moffat's best Who episodes were in the Davies era. I had high hopes but have been a bit disappointed. Though there's still been some killer episodes such as The Angels Take Manhattan.
