Oh man, you are gona struggle with 15 seasons of this then haha. It does have a lot of filler episodes. I personally miss filler episodes in tv, but you are right in that they slow down a binge format.
Some of the fillers are some of the best stand alone tv. Some real gems in the series that you only have to have a vague idea of what the show is about to be able to follow along and enjoy. This is very typical for tv of the time - far more casual viewers that flicked over during an ad break. SPN does sort of evolve as viewing habits do. It leans into the fans after s8.
TV is more tribal now, you're either a hard core far, or not. SPN is a great show for those who just casually like the genre. Not too deep, only heavy if you're really invested, and a lot of jokes and fun moments.
Love filler when it's done right but sometimes the episodes tend to be like The Conjuring, which is too predictable for me. I loved some of the filler episodes, but others are bad. With Buffy I just searched up which ones were really bad, and avoided those or only watched the filler eps with interesting titles.
I used to just skip the filler entirely, but I don't plan on actually finishing Supernatural. I never finish shows because it just leaves a void in my heart 🙁

This thread is making me realize how much of an old person I sound like. I miss 22 episode TV. I understand actors and the crew were getting burnt out but 8 episodes every 2ish years is crap. We grew up with characters from the older shows and would spend an hour with them every week for years. Today’s media just doesn’t have me as invested it’s not uncommon to not remember the plot of the previous season before a new one gets released. We don’t get to know characters or give anything time to breathe because everything needs to be condescend into 8 high stakes hours. Rant Over and like I said I know I’m old.
Exactly, along with the fact that shows don't really feel like shows anymore. I blame Netflix, they get rid of all their best shows and the new ones just aren't good.
And don't worry, everyone is saying this. TVD has slowly become more popular, so it's not as if younger teens don't like 22 episode shows too. I think there just universally loved.
It's easier to go for 'safe' instead of going back to 22 episodes, that and other factors..
I was planning to one day see up to season 5. I believe it was here on BB where I heard it described that the end of season 5 was the perfect ending.
I have seen a handful of eps and it looks like a show I'd enjoy (though I haven't become so eager for it that I've tried to track it down), and that includes eps past season 5, but more than 5 seems to be too much for me to do at once. And shows rarely stay as good after a season 5 as even at their best they tend to repeat themselves in episodes not quite as good as what came before.
Naturally, I might see more after a time of not watching more.

NileQT87Terrible advice if you even remotely like Castiel. I absolutely hate the people who tell everyone to stop there. Many of my favorite episodes, arcs and seasons are way past that point.
Season 6’s overall arc may not be strong but in my opinion it has some of the best stand alones in the series. Also Sera Gamble had a better grasp of the characters than Jermey Carver or Andrew Dabb.
NotASlayerOh, I enjoyed the season and it definitely felt like a season of Supernatural, because it still kept the central theme (probably because of the standalones); it just felt like they were trying to find a purpose after the S5 finale.
Oh, I love Supernatural! I have watched all the seasons and own them all on DVD. I personally think that it goes downhill after S5, but it's a great show overall.
I'm a Sam girl looks-wise, but Dean is super hot too! Dean is a really interesting and complicated character - thought he may not seem like it now. He's actually very similar to Buffy.
I have some great memories with my late mother watching this show. During the pandemic, when we were laid off from work and homebound, we watched almost the whole series together. We'd get takeout food a lot and while we watched, we'd debate who was better, Sam or Dean. She loved Dean, and we'd have heated arguments. I miss her so much, and I cherish those memories.

@Joan the Vampire Slayer I totally agree about the show going downhill after S5. When you think about it, Supernatural was practically perfect from the start...with a killer finale. (In fact, Swan Song is one of the best series finales I've ever seen in my life)
Also, I've always been fascinated by angels, and was thrilled there were so many storylines involving them. Leviathans, not so much. Ooooh, but I really did like Dick Roman, he was hilarious. Wow, I almost forgot how much I love Dick! 😋

It was like an overgrown teenager and it really didn’t help that he wasn’t well written at that point. I think he does well when he plays other characters or gets to evil but not necessarily with emotional scenes.
I do think Jaren was supposed to be the star and it was supposed to be Sam’s story through Dean’s eyes but as early as season 2 the writers started giving the meaty emotional stuff to Jensen.

I think I just personally connected with Sam's story, and Jared is great actor later on. Though the writers never let Sam show much of his PTSD so Jared had to improvise and do it himself.

Jensen has SO much charm and charisma, it's astonishing. Not only can he act, but he's also a total babe. His comedic timing is off the scale, he's a natural. He definitely carried the show
Frankly, Jared's acting is 'high school drama club' level at best. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy (and his character), but let's be real; talent-wise, Jensen did all the heavy lifting .

It's a good thing that J & J had such awesome chemistry...you could actually believe they were brothers. Despite the fact that Jared had only four expressions throughout the entire show.
