Just starting to watch Buffy again.

I just started watching BTVS again after years and years. Just got to the musical episode and as someone that hates musicals, I simply can't believe how good the writing is in this episode! I have very few friends who respect this show, so I'd really appreciate talking to some peeps who really dig in depth plot and dialogue conversations.

My god I wish I could have appreciated the show this much when it was out.

Favorite character has to be Spike, I just love his character arc. It's honestly not that far from arcs I play in certain RPGs (stuff like Dragon Age and the like.)
Season wise I'd have to say it's a tie between 2 and 6.
2 because the Angel/Buffy relationship becomes so much more layered and meaningfull in the universe, and 6 because that scene betweeb Buffy and Spike in episode 3 is just superb. The way she leaves this massive secret with him because she knows he's someone she can rely on keeping it, and the way she walks out into the sunlight, leaving him inthe darkness with her secret, it's just brillantly done in my opinion.

Spuffy. Honestly, I know its quiet destructive, as relationships go, but I really appreciate the character building and subtely involved in it, as apposed to the Angel/Buffy romance.
I hear the comics really expand on this, but I've yet to read them

Why the hell did Angel have to end the way it did!? I honestly bloody loved it! I hear I should read the comics to get the real ending Joss Whedon had in mind, so definetly going to check out both!

I watched both shows as they originally aired......never for a moment thought I would still be watching/talking about them so many years later...….

They've certainly aged better than me 😀

Welcome. I just started rewatching Buffy recently as well. I’m not a fan of musicals either, but I loved Once More with Feeling. The singing didn’t bother me at all, surprisingly enough.

I kinda wish I could’ve appreciated this show too when it came out (only watched a few episodes here and there from seasons 5 and 6 at the time around 2002/2003). TV3 Ireland was always a season behind with Buffy, though, and seasons 3-5 of Angel weren’t aired at all, so that didn’t help matters. It was only when I started watching both shows on the digital channel Skfy nearly a decade later that I really got into them.

Both shows have aged well alright. A lot of the stuff in them went over my head when I was younger.

That's pretty much how it went with me too. Started years ago when it first aired, then caught an episode here and there around 03, 04.

I completely agree with you about how well both shows have aged (apart from how Angel ended, but that's kind of a compliment, I just wanted more) in fact I think it didn't just age well, it influenced a number of other shows too, most notably Supernatural, in fact, Supernatural is at it's strongest when it's following the "Buffy formula", so to speak, using inhuman monsters and horrifying situations to represent and explore everyday situations and problems

Honestly the more I watch it, the more I see it's influence on modern shows.

I agree that BvTS influenced a lot of modern shows.

There were homages to older shows too. One homage to The Fugitive being Buffy Summers having her own Richard Kimble-like experience in the Buffy season 2 finale.

Oh yes, very true. In fact in a lot of ways it was Buff that kind of brought about the whole pop culture reference thing into main stream shows and films. Especially in terms of dialogue, Joss Whedon was very good about making such referrences and spotlights an integral yet subtle part of the show.
 
Welcome to the boards! Even two decades later the show still stands up as a cultural icon. I am sure you will find people of like-minded opinion and people who give reasons for other opinions here and that is the main strength of this forum.
