The effects of the eclipse just came through. We had a 95% coverage in the area of Missouri I live in. I was pretty neat. Although we didn't see a total blackout it did get quite dark for being 1:57 in the afternoon. The temp also dropped about 3 degrees F here. I had my special filter glasses and would take short looks at it. Very very cool. 😎
We weren't supposed to see much of it, and also the skies were overcast. I popped my head out at the maximum time, but couldn't even find where the sun was behind the clouds. Guess I'll have to keep my eclipse glasses for the next time!
My glasses were left over from the last eclipse back in 2017. We were right in the path for the total blackout. It was so cool, like late twilight in the middle of the afternoon.
We drove from NW Houston, Texas to Broken Bow, Oklahoma (I can now add that one to the US States I’ve visited😉).
About a 5 and 1/2 hour drive. Due to cloud forecasts everywhere, this seemed like our best shot. We found a quiet spot, and it was well-worth the drive. During the stages, there were passing clouds but the Total was clear for about 4 minutes. Darkening skies, the odd vehicle with lights on, the night time crickets started their song, birds chirped and cows mooed. It was hot when we arrived at Noon and when the Total happened, the temperature dropped, to the point
we had to put on hoodies. Then everything got very quiet, and we saw the ”diamond ring”. You have to put the viewing glasses back on as the sun peeks out again.
We re-used our glasses from last year‘s Annular Eclipse, where we drove to South Texas, Goliad which was quite amazing. Apparently the glasses are good for ten years.
To keep it “real”😝. We had just left Broken Bow, heading back home, and got a flat tire (puncture). We were in
”pick-up truck” territory and the first place we went to find a replacement had none the correct size “Oh, you have a car”
Finally found a shop that had a tire replacement and drove back through a rain storm. Got home at 11:30pm exhausted
BUT happy.

Traffic from Niagara Falls and the Queen Elizabeth Way (the main route to Toronto) was so clogged from eclipse traffic that one of our dancers, Kaye, who comes in from London ON took 2.5 hours when she usually takes 1.5 hours to go the 190 km from London. We have some very determined dancers and she is one of the better ones. Many are as beautiful as Kaye but none are quite as elegant and well-dressed.
