Just when you thought 2018 couldn't get anymore terrifying...

Then what did get them the big bucks?

The Spice Girls might not have been the most talented singers (although, that being said, Mel C and Emma both have incredibly strong voices with Mel C in particular displaying great vocal range and control) but the girls knew how to craft a damn good song. Only one of their singles failed to reach No. 1, Wannabe is still the biggest-selling single by a girl group and so many of their songs are remembered today, twenty years later. They won two Ivor Novella awards for songwriting and their debut album was nominated for a Mercury Prize, an extremely prestigious award for albums produced in England and Ireland, as well as winning countless other awards in Britain and around the globe. Their movie was the second-highest grossing British film of 1997. These girls achieved a lot during their short run.

They were freakin' hard workers, those girls. I've read two of their autobiographies and an independently-written biography which detailed their rise to fame, and Jesus, for three years they did not stop. They rehearsed together endlessly, even before they were signed to a label, they came up with their own name, their own image and how they wanted to be perceived. They co-wrote all their songs and marketed themselves after splitting with their first management team. When they sacked Simon Fuller they managed their office and all of their matters for five or six months on top of their usual insane promotional work and touring. They simultaneously filmed their feature film while recording their second album, completing both on schedule and then immediately went into work on their first live concert. People who worked with them during their run noted that they did more and worked harder in two years than most bands do in their entire careers. It was noted at one point that they flew to twenty-five countries in one month. They were a friggin' machine and for that they win not only my respect but also my blind adoration 😀

Omg hahahahahahahhahaha oh dear. I dont belong here.
Mr Trick: Oh God not you too! Its worst for me, because at least a concert I don't have to go to and can ignore...

@Mr Trick

Haha yup, me too. But you don't have to see the movie either? It should be just as easy to ignore.

The Earth is definitely doomed...

So what you're saying is that Spice Girls are the girlband extraordinaire whose light-hearted ways makes everyone think they're not serious enough but really they will save the world. A lot. 😀

Ha! Might have to watch it for my show....
Mr. Trick does not have to watch them, when Black Sabbath first went to America they became known as evil personified. One reporter from a famous music magazine didn't go to a certain show but made a report of the show and it was printed, but the power had gone off and the group didn't go on that night.

PS I read about your times at school Taake, you seemed to infer you are not a teenager, what!

Don't worry, one way or the other I won't be paying for it if I do see it😉

My girlfriend was listening to Spotify yesterday and Spice Girls - Wannabe "randomly" came on...., the threat is real people....very real...

I respect the Spice Girls for what they did, as much as I respect the Kardashians. Which is basically, as much as I won't publicly admit to admiring them, I actually kinda do, as pioneering women regardless of some extreme talent or skill. I think you can argue there's always one of them who you think has genuine talent, but as a whole they have to be savvy otherwise they'd have been a one-hit-wonder (or one-show-wonder).

They both found a way to court the PR machine, whether that's by filling a gap in the music market, or by achieving notoriety through other means. 😉

And just as I have my favourite Spice Girl (Baby/Sporty), I have my favourite Kardashian (Khloe) 😛

Maybe, but I think a lot of that was aggressive marketing. To me its more important to have longevity and push yourself than to be a flash in the pan no matter how big that flash is.
I heard the Spice Girls are going to be posting a short film of them skinning a Welsh-Rarebit.
