Just found this

The only time that I have ever heard of anything like this happening was with "Highlander 2," which was so terrible that they went back and more or less revised the story line, removing all of the "Planet Zeist" elements.

So, what do you think? Seeing as how the current version is somewhat less than appealing to some fans (personally, I happen to like it) this would be a relatively inexpensive way to add more revenue without actually making a whole new movie. Just some reediting and release it as a DVD bonus pack with the theater version, or put it up on the big screen for its own run.

It happened with the Exorcist franchise as well. Prequel to the Exorcist/Dominion. Both of the movies failed. Just like Highlander 2. There is just no separation from the original bad film. Even if they did release the Snyder version it would cost them even MORE money. Release it as a DVD like they did BvS and Suicide Squad. Putting it out in the theaters won't help. It's going to be a financial flop regardless.

Just watched the video above. He has a lot of his facts wrong.

From what I've read, Snyder had just about everything wrapped up before he left, with just a few shots to be done. Whedon made the more extensive re-shoots, subsequently bringing production costs far higher than than originally anticipated, and creating the situation where greater ticket sales would be required to make a decent prophit. If there's enough of Snyder's material there, it would only take some re-editing of preexisting material. I wouldn't think that that would be much in the way of a great financial output.

Not only would they have to pay people to re-score, re-edit, re-dub the film, they would need to market it again. They would need to get screens to show it again. All of that costs money. It would add considerable (relatively speaking) cost and the ROI would already be lessened based of the loss taken from the original movie. You would have less theaters showing this and less people attending.

JL was bland and messy and tone-deaf, but it was still better than both of Snyder's previous DC movies. So, this petition is dumb. If anything, I'd like an extended Joss Whedon cut. But even that couldn't fix the core problems of the movie, so - just leave this movie behind. Just let it burn.

Problem is none of us know how much of the finished movie was Whedon's and how much of it was Snyder's. The one thing I will say with confidence is a full blown Snyder version would be even worse.
