Kate Beckinsale will reprise her role of vampire heroine Selene in the fourth installment of the "Underworld" franchise, the Hollywood Reporter said.

The actress starred in the first two films, 2003's "Underworld" and 2006's "Underworld: Evolution," but was not in the third film, "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans," released last year.

Marc Blucas ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") has been cast as the male lead opposite Callie Thorne ("Rescue Me," "Prison Break") in the USA Network series "Necessary Roughness," Entertainment Weekly reports.

Thorne plays a therapist who, after taking a job at a professional football team, finds she's in demand by others in the limelight. Blucas will play the team's trainer and "a romantic foil for Thorne," EW says.

Blucas, a former pro basketball player, is best known as Buffy's love interest Riley in the fourth and fifth seasons of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Among his feature-film credits are "Knight and Day," "We Were Soldiers" and John Sayles' "Sunshine State."

I mostly posted this because I am SUPER excited Kate Beckinsale is returning for the fourth movie as the super sexy Selen. But then I saw the Marc Blucas bit and decided to post that in the same thread since it's the same article lol

I feel like after each movie the story is closed and theyre finding whatever way they can to bring it back. When I was little you were just excited to get a sequel.

Hm, I love the Underworld films especially the third (yummy werewolfy goodness), but I can't possibly imagine what a fourth one might be about... glad to see Kate Beckinsale returning though, so I might give it a go just for that 😀
 
A fourth movie?? Cool, I've watched them all and really liked them. I'm incredibly glad they brought Kate back 'cause that other chick wasn't as good as Kate. About Marc Blucas...really? Oh well, this is gonna be interesting.
 
For me the most intertaing bit in this article is that Marc used to be a pro basket ball player. Maby that is why I thought he looked firmiliar when he first joined basket ball but I could not place him in any movies before that......Does anyone know what team he was on and what year?

I didnt know he went pro but I remember reading that he used to play for Wake Forest and they used to have a really good team.

Im so excited for this, Underworld is my favourite movie franchise. Im so glad Kate Beckinsale is returning for her role as Selene, she is one kickass vamp, she makes me proud to be a Brit. I also love the portrayal of the werewolfs in this franchise, there so badass, too bad production doesnt start untill March i cant wait that long!
 
I really didn't care much for the last one. Hopefully this new one will be better.

Though the chick from the last one, who played Sonja, wasn't bad. I liked her in The Gates, and I'm still sad they cancelled that show.
 
I don't even remember seeing the 3rd one. Haha. But I really liked the first & second one. so maybe I'll see the 4th one.

According do IMDB, the new film is called Underworld: New Dawn. Kate Beckinsale so far is the only confirmed actress. I also found this, for all of you that would like to keep updated 🙂

Swedish directing team Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein have been hired to direct Underworld 4 for Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment.
Kate Beckinsale is set to return as vampire warrior Selene.
Production is set to start in March 2011 in Vancouver. John Hlavin wrote the script, which underwent revisions by comics writer and The Changeling scribe J. Michael Straczynski.
Lakeshore Entertainment's Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi and Len Wiseman are producing the new movie.

The directors are the same people that did the 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' and 'Let the Right One In' films. I love the cinematography in these so there is no doubt that this new Underworld will be amazing as well 🙂
