Det_Kate_Lockley was one of my usernames at the sadly mourned Bronze, so I'm biased. (I seem to have a thing for gun toting gals who dislike the undead.) She had the potential to be a very interesting character, offering a fresh perspective on just how weird Angel's world is, and it was interesting that she came into conflict with him because she was trying to be a good guy. But I think she was badly mishandled.

It was frustrating. There'd be a whole episode about how conflicted and layered she was supposed to be, but if she appeared as a guest in any other episodes it was always purely in a 2D plot-device killjoy capacity. On the other hand, Elizabeth Rohm is quite a good actress and seemed to take the part really seriously, which was nice. And before she turned completely into Officer Barbrady, Lockley had some fun lines. ("Our bodies are both 80% water?")

I really liked Kate Lockley. At first, when I watched Season One, I thought she was supposed to be the new love interest for Angel. . . but, she started to become more of a character, and I really liked her.

Yet, I didn't like how Joss just kinda, faded her out. She just sort of, dissapeared from the show. It was weird. I thought her character could've had alot more potential, but I agree, I was expecting her to come back in Season Five actually.

She found out Angel worked for Wolfram and Hart, and wanted to give him a big "told you so you're an evil loser" speech.

I was kind of dissapointed she never came back. **Shrugs**. It was weeeeeird.

I agree that there was so much potential for her character. There are so many things that they could have done but didn't. Overall I think that Ms. Rhom brought alot to the role and to the show. There was a kind of sober realism that she gave the part. It's a shame that they lost her to L&O.

Your points about Kate are ones that I agree with, even though she's gone, you brought about the realism to her character. Thanks for that!
What ever happebed to kate, what was the last ep she was in and what happened in.

I think it was. . ."Epiphany" am I right?

The episode the week before Kate left Angel a suicide message and he ignored it and slept with Darla.

Then in "Epiphany" he went to her, and saved her. Waking her up, and she thanked him, and told him to get out.

At the end of the episode, Kate and Angel are talking at the Hyperion. She tells him she feels foolish, and he told her he understands.

They talk for a while, and eventually there conversation ends with Angel telling her she doesn't need to be a cop, and with Kate telling Angel she'll be okay.

She says that she felt like they weren't alone, and they finally got a break in having things work out for them and he asks why, and she answers "because I never invited you in".

I think that was all we saw of her. With closure that she didn't want to have anything to do with Angel anymore; and that she'd be okay.

I thought Kate was a very well written character. Sometimes it did seem like she was only there to be an antogonist to Angel and the gang, but there was some real depth there. There were so many missed opportunities that they could've explored, but I guess it's a little late for that. It would've been so cool if she just showed up in Not Fade Away like Anne and Connor. Ih, I guess it's too late for that too ...

I agree Kate was a very well written character. Like Jill Valentine I also like tough women who are smart enough to dislike demons and pack some heat. Speaking of women with guns, I never understood, besides some perverse decision of the writers, why Fred didn't cary a firearm and learn to fight better than she did. In her line of work it seems suicidal not to do so.

Hmm well for me..she just didn't do anything at all. I like Elisabeth Rohm...she's a good actress, but I just found the character of Kate more annoying than anything.

I kind of agree. . .

Although I wish her character would've been taken to new levels; she started to get boring. Just the same person, whining over her dad, and how much she hated Angel.
:sleeping3 -- They should've changed it around and done something else with her.

I understand why her dad had to go. Frankly - if they'd done much more with her character, I think it would have taken away from the show, and from the storylines I most wanted to watch, that of the AI gang.

I never looked at it that way; thanks for the new perspectives, Jenny!
I went with her being ok, I did not say she was a good character because they did not use her to her full potential!

I loved her because she was the first person we got to see on that show go through the whole mistrust thing. Cordy, Doyle, and even Wes later on seemed to just take it in stride, the latter two having already gone through everything on Buffy.

I have only seen six episodes of Angel so my opinion might not matter a lot.. I like kate though. So far at least. In the first episode she was in I really liked her, and well.. haven't stopped liking her yet..

I hated her. She hardly had a purpose except to confuse the audience into wondering if Angel was supposed to like her and then she is conceited and believes he does like her and then she just whines all the time about her dad and has strange eyelashes. Plus her voice sounds like she has a cold.

awww i loved kate, still think she shoud have her own spin off series as a private detective, we know she has a greater destiny than just a co because a higher power stepped in to save her life, i was annoyed with the way she left we didnt even know she was, she just left!!!

I disliked Kate very much. I don't know why, I just did. It must've been her attitude towards Angel and the gang, I don't know.

My daddy really liked her, though. Every time she came, he'd be like, "Oh, here comes Cop Lady," and go on about her and Cordelia.

Maybe it's the whole cop thing. Maybe that's why I dislike her.

But, I don't really know which episode she was last in... I guess I should watch that one... 'Epiphany' and see how it ended. Either way, I was happy when I saw that she didn't really return for an episode.
