American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee has become the latest front-runner to play Wonder Woman on the big screen, according to Internet reports.
The pretty Californian has overcome bronchitis, laryngitis and a fractured foot in recent weeks to perform on the American Idols Live Tour, and it seems her real-life heroics have impressed moviemaker Joss Whedon.

A source tells TMZ.com that McPhee is among the hopefuls up for the highly coveted lead in the Wonder Woman movie.

Weird. It sounds like rumor, urban legend land to me. I thought Joss wanted an unknown actress. If she can actually act...
 
Im trying to find the megazine/newspaper they someone's interview that confirmed that she was being considered, heard about it on like ET on MTV or something.
 
Someone should do a study on Wonder Woman casting rumors. I think they're fascinating. Like how do they start? What drives the viral engine.

There was one just a while ago saying a Bollywood star was in talks for the part. I think it originated on IMDB. Wikipedia picked it up. It spread as far as the first doors of the mainstream media before it got pegged as a rumor.

Then there was that one began by that Richard O Sullivan guy. It's almost his hobby to create Whedonverse rumors. It involved some wannabe starlet he's in some way connected to.

The Katharine Macphee one has a twist. I get google news alerts on the name Joss Whedon. I first started getting alerts on the Macphee rumor at the beginning of the summer, then the rumor died. It just disappeared. Last week Whedon offered up the news he'd submitted the Wonder Woman script to the studio. Boom. All of a sudden the old Macphee rumor springs back to life, and this time it's everywhere.

Like I said...fascinating.

In fact...speaking of Google news, and the Katharine Macphee as Wonder Woman rumor, I notice when I go to Google for news on that, the first entries are from AOL, and Fox news. These are both part of the media family which airs American Idol, and I will assume holds Macphee's recording contract.

There are no interviews, of course. There is nothing you could consider hard news. It's more, a "guess what I heard" kind of thing.

This is so awesome. I just got my first...lol.

Now I don't need to spend time looking for news articles I'm interested in. I just turn this thing on, and voila!
 
what is this world comming to? Now we don't evem have to spend two minutes to type in www.google.com into a little adress bar, press enter, type in what we want to search for and read. Now we have a machine to do it for us. We are sad sad people.

"I just laugh about it". And in a follow up to another casting rumour that set some parts of the blogosphere in a frenzy, IESB.net spoke to a studio insider who said Rachel Bilson "is [a] little too old and [a] little too short for what Joss Whedon has planned".

Yea, that's all we really need. Another singer turned actor... Doesn't it usually take a couple years before they get THAT big of an ego?


I personally don't think (or atleast hope) that Joss would choose her.

Yeah, she said that because she isn't going to be WW.
You can bet anything you like that had the role been offered to her, she'd have taken it.
