Ok, Kaylee, at least to me, is supposed to be like a "little girl" type of person. Right? Then you see her screwing the old engineer and I'm like, "WOH!!!!" It just seems totally out of character to me. Your opinions?

Kaylee was written to be sensual, voluptuous, and womanly. Hence why they made Jewel gain 20 pounds to play the part. I think Inara was made to be the sexy unattainable one, while Kaylee was an attain-a-thon.

Yeah, despite her innocent and cheerful exterior, she's a frisky vixen underneath the dirt and jumpsuits. And she's not really afraid to talk about sex...hence her mention of using a vibrator in Serenity, the film, to Mal's horror and Jayne's intrigue. Haha.

But, that's kinda what I love about her. She's not afraid to get down and dirty...literally.

Don´t have anythin to say more than that I agree. A bit boring, but at least you get some karma-points.

Yeah, but with her rather blunt attitude towards sex, it always seemed kinda funny to me that she would be so shy around the doctor. You'd think she would be more like Anya ("We have all these interlocking body parts...")
I must admit that the scene took me by surprise. Not that I´m complaining. Other than that, I find myself agreeing with chiigusa. *runs to give karma*

And it is much appreciated! So, I will do the same. *salute* Kaylee would want us to, lol.

That seemed kind of strange to me, too. It just seemed uncharacteristic - I don't know.

Kaylee was the sweet, "little sister" character, but that doesn't mean she can't be sexual. From the very beginning, with the sexual subtextyness of Kaylee eating the strawberry and her obvious attraction to Simon to her open, non-judgmental view of Inara's work, to her stories about getting into trouble for dating guys back home, to her question about the boy whores in "Heart of Gold," to the end, when she and Simon finally have sex, Kaylee is portrayed as person in whom healthy sexual drives coincide with her kind and cheerful personality. Her sexual drives are natural and human -- and just as sweet and wholesome as the rest of her, which I think sends a really healthy message.

That being the case, I found it 100% in character that she might have a go with an attractive fellow mechanic in the engine room of an exotic spacecraft. It's sort of like Kaylee's ultimate erotic fantasy come true. lol.

I can't word it better so I'll just say 'I agree with that'

I didnt find it out of character, Kaylee never came across as completely 'innocent' to me. I spose it didnt shock me is all.

Yeah, I was surprised too. When I first started watching, I kinda related her to Willow on Buffy, who's also pretty innocent. After Out of Gas, she became more of an earthy character, kind of like Tara, but more sexual to me. I like it though. The earthiness is pretty cool.

Haha, this made me laugh. My step-dad thought the same thing about her being all innocent. He was actually kinda depressed about it for a couple days. On the other hand, my mom loved it. *shrug* I usually take whatever Joss throws at me. Sometimes not happily, but I usually eventually accept.

I thought that scene was very tame, especially when compared to the scene near the end of Serenity when miss Kay Winnit Lee Frye lay underneath Simon, did she see River watching them? and what would her reaction have been?

It wasn't out of character at all...unless you plugged your ears when she brought up sex on multiple occasions. What about when she's flirting with Dr Whatshisface? I think you just weren't paying attention.

Seems to fit her in my opinion. She was trying to get Simon to jump her bones the entire series. Not to say that shes giving away belly time like its candy or anything, it's just, shes an attractive woman who's well aware of that fact, and she knows what she wants (an attractive woman who is WAY more attractive with those extra pounds). Seems a little too fitting to me.

I guess I've never seen Kaylee as a "little girl" type of person. Even in the movie she was very open about her sexuality, and had no problems talking about sex. And it was obvious that she liked it. So her having sex with someone dosen't floor me...especially since they share another love in engineering.

I wasnt surprised, when you consider all we seen. From the strawberry to the way she acted with the doctor to things that run on batteries...She is still that cute sweet girl but is open sexually..and the guy being a fellow engineer she would have taken to right away...

i heart kaylee...

I think we were meant to be surprised by the scene, but not shocked. I think Joss had set her up at first as the 'sweet, girl next door type', but with obvious hints towards her having a healthy sex drive. I think hte scene was simply meant to establish that to the viewers. Here's a girl who is talented with engines, smart, fiesty and sexy. Not slutty, but someone who enjoys sex.

He also however, showed that she wasn't totally shameless. Yes, she was underneath the engine with a hunky engineer type, but when it came to Simon she became quite shy.

She had a healthy sex drive and wasn't afraid to speak her mind where sex was concerned, but like anybody could be shy and unsure of herself when faced with someone she really liked. And Joss also showed she wasn't a complete tomboy with her love of the ruffly dress (which was so hideously girly). It was also meant to show that although she loved working with engines in what would be considered a "guy's" profession she also loved girly things.

Who doesn't love Kaylee?

Didn't seem weird to me. Actually, this is probably one of my favorite scenes. I find it entertaining and funny. Especially when the other guy is like, "What do you need two mechanics for?"

This didn't seem out of character to me because she was always dropping hints about sex. Unless I'm too dirty minded and she wasn't? Haha.

Totally agree! I love that scene! I find it amusing when women talk about sex around men, and the men get all uncomfortable, as Mal did in that scene. I was sorta surprised Jayne didn't get uncomfortable too, then again we are talking the man who "went to his bunk" after seeing the female client.

Anyways, Kaylee is by far my favorite character in the show. She is just SO adorable! Every time I see her I just want to hug her. I never really got the impression that she was child like character, and just didn't know about or have sex, she just didn't go out of her way to mention it.

As for her relationship with Simon vs the Engineer. I look at as someone she really liked, Simon, and someone she just wanted to sleep with, the engineer. The engineer was more of a lust thing than anything else, where as Simon was someone she really wanted to have a relationship with. Her shyness, was a result that feeling.
