Really? Whoa....sorry to hear that.
I never got to use KaZaa to it's fullest extent......the program was just too powerful for my Windows 2000-based computer and it slowed it down, which is too bad, as you could find and download pretty much ANYTHING with that program.
Did it say on the news WHY they are closing down, Alyson?
it said something about the songs belonging to the singers its copy right yadda yadda all of that. But they wasent giving it to people, people were just sharing it! And they shouldnt of, because now all of us are just gonna find another place to go and they'll have to shut that down soon, there never gonan win.
Ah, well, we'll still have WINMX....at least for a little while longer.
And quite frankly, I could care less what happens to MORPHEUS.......that program is the reason my previous hard drive got infected with the virus that ultimately rendered it useless in a matter of hours.
I don't know Alyson, it isn't that I don't believe you, but I searched for any news on this story, and couldn't find any.
I could be wrong, but I'm suspecting you may be confusing it with another story that came out today.
What happened was the Australian legal system had a bout of temporary insanity, and gave the Australian record industry the legal right to hire a private "police" force of thugs to kick down the doors at a few private homes, and universities in Australia. They also raided Kazaa's Australian headquarters.
It's nuts, but that's what happened. Read about it here:
Kazaa's homepage still works. And non of the major news outlets I know of have any news of Kazaa actually being shut down. It's still running as far as I can discover.
From what I've heard there are many pitfalls with Kazaa - spyware and such - even, so it would be a shame to lose it. I prefer WinMX for my filesharing though.
I suspect Nerd4hire is correct though (he usually is🙂) and it is just a bit of local trouble in Oz.
What Mr. Pointy said is correct. Kazaa is spyware laden, has many corrupt files, and a growing number of viruses target Kazaa specifiically. It is also making a move towards being a paid service.
Try Ares for ease of use, or Shareaza for wide file selection. WinMx is all right, but there are too many lineups. It's expecting an upgrade soon though.
Personally i dont really like Kazaa. it really annoys me and i can never find the files that i want so i will not really be that sorry to see it go (even if it isnt lol). i prefer to use winmx i think that its much easier to use.
