Giles tells everyone to "keep Buffy's secret safe" Now, let's look at the first eppy. She kills vampires right in front of a club full of people. Don't you think that would be a give away? How did people just dismiss the fact they turned to dust? Are they stupid? Then come season 3 the whole senior class fights the vamps and the mayor (which the parents ran?!?!??!).
 
i know she fought things in front of people the trio founf out who she really was so anybody else could! and you have a lot of thoughts today dont you?
 
Well, I had my annual Buffy marathon this weekend, lol. should have taken notes 🙁 lol
 
Nobody in Sunnydale really wants to believe in demons and vampires, so they look the other way, for some reason. They believe what they want to believe, until Buffy says, "Look at me, I'm a vampire slayer," right in front of them. The next day, they forget it, but Giles still wants her to be "cautious."
 
Well, what gets me is Graduation Part 2. I mean, there were parents there that just left their children there to possibly die. And then during The Harvest goes "they were gangs"... I don't see any gangs turning to dust...

the people of sunnydale often look the other way and ignor weird occurances that happen in their town. They know that things are different on some level, but just choose to go about their lives.

In graduation day, part 2, I think most parents were more concerned for their lives and did not even think about the students because of this common response to what happens in sunnydale with the townspeople.
 
Yup, that's probably it. I'm just saying if I was a parent and my kid was in there I'd be grabbing a flame-thrower too lol.
 
In The Harvest, Giles says that "People have a tendency to rationalize what they can and forget what they can't". Also, In The Prom, the kids acknowledge that they know that there is something special about Buffy, that they have realized. They just don't like to acknowledge more than they have to.

Let's be realistic- would you like to know there are vamps in your town if you couldn't fight with them???
 
I just think people are stupider now. People were a lot smarter in the 19th century. Remember that flashback in FFL how people saw Spike feeding in public and there was a mob? Yet vampires feed in public all the time in the present and there's no mob.
 
Yep, people look the other way. It's not that they're dumb, they just want to convince themselves that those things aren't real, that they don't have to worry about any monsters other than their own personal demons.
 
I would want demons to be real. I think it would be cool. Even though it would be sad somewhat... But, my friends and I tried to picture ourselves in the hellmouth battle in Chosen... we all desided it wouldn't end well...
 
Some people don't like things to be out of the ordinary for them. They search for what they consider a "logical" explanation and they go on with their lives.
 
They are stupid... hehe! I mean... I was talking about this with my mother who hate this show. I think they look the other way, too.
 
I think that the town know what happens in Sunnydale, but they dismiss it, thats been said a couple of times.
But, its silly that Buffy seems to slay in front of a lot of people, and they dont seem bothered, really. Oh well, maybe its just....um....something!
 
They just didn't want to see it...Like when someone see a boy being punched most of people try not to see it..
 
with the exception of most of us here, would the average person WANT to believe that was real, or would they want to believe it was all a joke....? most of them would try to forget, until they get to the point when they actually convince themselves it was all fake.
 
I think if we dwell on these things to long we forget, that what our passion is, is ultimately fiction.
