"Conspiracy!

(*NOTE: This is strictly MY opinion on why Kendra was killed. It is not
recognized or supported by anyone on the BUFFY show.)

It is my theory that the reason why Kendra was killed is because she is a better
slayer than Buffy.

There are a lot of things that lead me to believe that this is true. The first of them
is the fact that Kendra was killed by Drusilla, someone who Buffy has never ever
fought, bc if she killed Kendra then she could also
kill Buffy, and without Buffy there is no show.

Another thing that has bothered me about Kendra's death is that she was the only
one killed. Cordelia ran away, Willow was under a bookcase and they needed
Giles alive to figure out the Acathla thingie, but what about Xander? He was in
the library yet he wasnt killed, and vampires arent exactly known for their mercy
towards the friends of the slayer. Kendra who was better than Buffy was killed but
since Xander is totally useless when it comes to fighting, and presents no
competition for Buffy then he is allowed to live. Kendra comes to Sunnydale to
stop a very dark power, saves Buffy twice, brings her the sword she needs to stop
Acathla, defends Buffy's friends and dies bc she is better than Buffy...Yeah! that's
fair!

Many people say that Buffy is obviously better bc she is alive and Kendra is not,
but wasnt Buffy's death what caused Kendra to be called in the first place? Lets
face it, if it wasnt for her Scooby-Gang then Buffy would have been dead a long
time ago. Kendra herself saved Buffy on three ocations.

Others argue that Buffy would never let Dru hipnotize her, yet wasnt that what the
Master did to her? He hipnotized her, then bit her and droped her on a puddle.
Which also helps prove my point, Dru didnt kill
Kendra bc she was a better fighter but bc she had those hipnotize powers, so even
if Buffy could kill her, it wouldnt be bc she can fight better than Kendra.

Because if i clearly recall....

Buffy: "Your awsome, your technique is flawless, its better than mine..."
Kendra: "I know."

But my strongest "proof" and motive for my theory is the words of Joss Whedon
himself. On an interview with Joss after Season 2 ended, he was asked to give
some details about Season 3, he was also asked about Kendra's fate and why he
had decided to eliminate the character and his response was..."There should be
only
one...we like only one." Well if you like ONLY one so much why the hell did you
bring Faith in for?!

So the bottom line is that Kendra was
killed simply bc she was better.
Now dont get me wrong, I still watch
Buffy and I LOVE Buffy, but I still think that the way they dealt with Kendra was all
wrong. She was wonderfull character and even though she only appeared in one
FULL episodes and 2 cameos she had quite a following among Buffy fans."


Now, I certainly don't believe that Kendra was a better Slayer than Buffy. But I
don't believe that Buffy was a better Slayer than Kendra.

And if the Scoobies were an element to Buffy's long reign as Guardian of the
Hellmouth, why did their help proved to be worth diddley-squat, in the case of
Kendra?

One last note - someone on another forum stated that Kendra's lack of friends
made her lonely and vulnerable to Drusilla's thrall. BS if I ever heard it! As the
above article stated, Buffy fell under the Master's thrall before he killed her in
"Prophecy Girl". And once again, Buffy fell under the thrall of another vampire -
this time Dracula in "Buffy vs. Dracula". Only in the latter episode, she was lucky
that he wasn't interested in killing her at the time.😱
 
I think that Buffy was the better Slayer.
Sure Kendra knew everything in the 'Slayer Handbook' blah blah blah, but who was the one to survive for Seven years?
Ok, she died in 'The Gift' but that was sacrafice, not murder.
I think that being a know-it-all-Slayer gets you killed.
Its better for them to loosen up, get the job done, and add a pun here and there.
Kendra was all about the job.
But I did like Kendra!
 
its nice that someone stood up for Kendra but I think this article is just bull, Joss likes to surprise people.

I dont think they killed off Kendra because she was better but because they just needed it to happen espically when Buffy ran away, if Kendra were still alive after Buffy left then they really wouldnt have needed Buffy at all and wouldve just missed her.

Faith was brought in to be Buffys counterpart the dark side of her that never gets to come out to play and did they not forget that it was already written that Buffy would die by the hands of the Master? their was no way of avoiding it if she went to fought him and yes it is because of Xander that she lives and their little quote

I hate it when people cut off the whole conversations and we clearly see that Buffy didnt mean it that way.

The Scoobies couldnt do very much with fighting the vampires and winning because they were surprised at the attack and didnt know it was coming and didnt have much time to prepare for battle. And we clearly see that if they are prepaired they can get things done(IE: Graduation pt.2)

I love Kendra, she is one of my favs but this article doesnt really prove anything except bad analysizeing(spelling)

And this is why I never could understand why the Scoobies were so essential to Buffy's job as the Slayer. Did she really needed them . . . ALL OF THE TIME?

Maybe, having the Scoobies by her side, helped Buffy. But it certainly didn't help Kendra. And maybe Kendra was simply better suited to being the lone Slayer than Buffy. I believe there is no set rule that a Slayer will always need friends by her side. Nor do I believe that a Slayer will always have to be alone. I think that is something that depends upon the individual . . . and the situation.
 
I agree, Buffy was better off with friends helping her, it made her a better person and we see what wouldve happened to her if she hadnt come to Sunnydale in The Wish, she was a comletly different person who didnt care about anything but the kill.
 
Sometimes, being with her friends did not help Buffy be a better person. Her desire to keep her friends happy led her to make some mistakes. Especially in Season 6.
 
Spike said in Fool For Love that she was still alive because of her ties to the world.
 
I have found that it is not wise to take what someone says - literally. Even if that someone is a fictional character.

My personal take - sometimes its best for Buffy to act alone. Sometimes she needs her friends. I think it all depends upon the situation. From what I've seen of "Becoming, Part 1", Kendra seems to work best alone.
 
interesting! i don't know about all you say is corect, but i do think that it's a very valid theory! and i salute you🙂 i like kendra! and i think that you're right abut dru and buff, that dru might beable to kill buff! we've never seen that in action so we'll never know, but it would be interestoing though! to see it done!
 
I think having support and having something to look forward makes you want to live and makes you stronger.

I was very mad that Kendra was killed so easily and i think she was a better slayer then, only because she had more experience and didn't she train really young.

Buffy was trained late in the game, she had to develop, she was really great in season three not only because she had Faith but we saw her train more, especially with Graduation and The Ascension

I agree with the Primal Slayer that if Kendra had not died then we would have not seen Faith in action.
However I believe that Kendra was not better but more devoted to being a slayer while to Buffy to be a slayer was a liability and okay maybe she was a little better than Buffy.
But at the end of the day Buffy was the star of the show so I guess she had to stay on for six years .
Someone correct me if it is Six or seven.
 
i think kendra was the best slayer. i mean she put angel in that cage and beat him better than buffy ever could
 
Kendra was obidient, she was strong, she did exactly what she needed to do, she just missed two things ... friends. This is probably inherent to her complete obidience to her watcher, she missed the whole stuborness Buffy had going for her, and that probably is, why Buffy is the Slayer of Slayers.
 
I;m sure this has been around for awhile but I htought I;d add my 2 cents. I liked Kendra. She was cute and funny. Wish they wouldn't have killed her, and yes I do agree that she is a better slayer then Buffy. Kendra could do everything on her own and didn't need a bunch of friends to help her out. Studying and learning more moves then Buffy also helps.

Oh well, Faith was just as fun.
 
my opinion is that kendra represented the proper slayers in every respect, reading handbook, studying, secret identity, listening to watcher etc. showing us that that is why all the other slayers usually died at such a young age.

Then they are comparing her to buffy who does none of the above- showing us, the viewer, that the watcher system is incredebly flawed
 
I think Kendra was killed because she only had a four episode contract, lol. No, um, I got a magazine, towards the end of the seventh season, and inside they said that they knew about Dawn coming along three years in advance. So, the third season was probably planned, and to get the bad slayer, they needed to kill off Kendra.
