PW: Obviously you'll hear this week -- are you feeling optimistic?
Kevin: I am. I was just reading that "The Ringer" was picked up by The CW ... which is funny because when Julie and I were trying to get Sarah Michelle Gellar to play Rose.

PW: Really?
Kevin: Oh yea. Originally me and my pipe dreams "“ the ones that led me to tell you I wanted Taylor Swift for Lexi "“ had us trying to get Sarah Michelle Gellar for Rose. She was very appreciative but just said no. She was the only stunt casting we'd have ever agreed to [laughs].

Oh wow... That definitely would have gotten me into the show. But I can understand her not wanting to do another vampire show...
 
Hmm I actually don't really see her fitting this role. I liked the actress that played Rose she fit.
 
TVD is a great show. It would have been cool is SMG was on it 🙂
 
Its understandable why she said no. The last thing she needs is to be associated with another vampire show.

That would be liked David Boreanaz guest-starring as a vampire on a few episodes of Moonlight. Cool for the fans, but not especially good for the actors career.

Exactly. No actor wants to be associated with one role for their entire career.
 
I dont think anyone would associate her any more with Vamp shows then they do now and what she has done post Buffy (a lot of horror) but it wouldve been a nice nod to the fans and a sort of passing of the torch since TVD is kind of becoming Buffy 2.0, of course it isnt as good but it is still a very good show.

Plus it would have only been for a handful of episodes which woudlnt be bad.

I actually like The Vampire Diaries more than Buffy in a way and think it is better. Not better than Angel though.

Some people here are probably going to want to burn me at the stake for saying this, but it wouldn't really surprise me very much if, eventually, Sarah didn't wind up back on television starring in a series with a horror/supernatural theme. It's pretty much like how certain actors seem to always play cops or cowboys. The public sees them in that sort of role, and simply can't accept them as anything else. That's not to say that Sarah couldn't play more diverse characters, simply that her fans see her in a certain way, and have a hard time seeing her any other way. (given her less than stellar big screen career since "Buffy" left the air, it's pretty obvious that, despite everything that she can so to avoid it, Sarah has become type cast as a certain type of character, and will probably never attain any real success with anything else)

So, while passing on a role on "Vampire Diaries" might have probably been the right decision at this time, taking a similar role in the future just MIGHT be Sarah's only choice.

SMG clearly likes the darker/supernatural roles better since that is all she has starred in since Buffy ended. She isnt into comedy roles or the agent/cop/medical roles.

Alyson, David, Anthony have moved onto totally different roles that they will be remembered for and just in general take different roles in movies/tv series anyway. SMG could if she wanted to but she isnt into it.
 
I just wanted to chime in that I read that Kev Williamson quote not as saying she turned them down, just that it didn't happen. We don't know for certain they actually ever offered her the role or that she turned it down.

It says that she was very appreciative but just said no. So sounds like she was approached for it.

I have to say that's selling it a bit short 😉
I haven't watched a lot of Vampire diaries but I didn't find it very Twilight-y at all, it's got a lot more bite so to speak.
To each his own of course but seeing just a few eps has made me curious about the books (which were written both pre-Buffy and pre-Twilight I believe? Correct me if I'm wrong those of you who know better 🙂)
 
I'm curious for the True Blood and/or Vampire Diaries fans. Do the vampires on these shows seem scary enough? I haven't watched more than 3 episodes or either show but the vampires on True Blood especially didn't strike me as frightening without the vampire makeup from Buffy. The fangs the actors were wearing just didn't look real enough to me.

On topic... I think SMG will be more and more willing to do more fantasy/sci-fi stuff as she realizes that that is where a lot of the strong female roles are. It's really hard to find strong female roles out there and, as much as I love and admire Sarah, she possibly took for granted the great material she was being given with Buffy.

It actually imo isn't really similar at all it is way more adult in ways. I think if anything it would be more like Buffy.

Yes the Vampire Diaries were published in 1991. On Wikipedia it said that The Sookie Stackhouse novels were published in 2001 weird I thought they were earlier.

Well I don't find either of them very scary I like their makeup. I guess they are scary because they are all so messed up lol. I think that is scarier than their makeup. If I had to choose though out of The Vampire Diaries makeup and True Blood I would say The Vampire Diaries makeup could be considered scarier.
