I just read this interesting article here:

Kids and Old Music

It has to do with how today's younger listeners are seeking out older music such as Queen, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles as an alternative to modern manufactured hits.

I know there are many younger Buffy/Angel fans on this board. I'm curious. Do any of you get into the older music?

I'm a fan of older music. but also newer music. Queen and the Beatles are two of my favourite bands. And there is alot of other older music I like.
But it wouldn't surprise me if the article is right, there's so much bad music coming out these days.
But I'd say most teenagers are like me, they like both...

i dunno if i qualify as young enough, not that i'm old or anything but...*sighs* i think there's this slight possiblity that i may just think a wee bit too much at times but i'm not sure. i hafta think bout it.
i do have a soft spot for i guess old music i dunno. for quite a few years the eurythmics were my fave band, now i just quite like 'em. i love some of queens stuff...the beatles
too shy by kajagoogoo. i love the name too...you spin me right round dead or alive, tainted love soft cell,...theres more i just can't quite recall.
i like some new stuff too, but i guess you could say not very mainstream stuff...i dunno. veruca salt, loudermilk, filter, Placebo...
its been a few years since i've actually really liked something on the top ten but...i like nirvana too, i dunno if its old but...

a lot depends on my mood at the moment, and how good the music is. i even...like some disco. i love rubberband man. i mean the premise of the song is a guy who plays the rubberband with his toes... and ring my bell...someone told me that that was bit of a innuendo type song?..i dunno. i'm pretty clueless with that stuff...

but i like old and new stuff

I've grown up with and have been made to love since I was a baby all older stuff.. Ozzy, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Queen, Metallica, The Beatles, The Monkees (hehe). Course there's more but that's all I can think of at the moment.

Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dave Brubeck, Dizzy Gillespie; those old enough for you?

Yeah I do get into some older ones. Jazz ones mostly.

And I do listen to modern music aswell, but mostly underground, bootlegs, or soundtracks.

I'll qualify this, and say if you're old enough to have seen Led Zeppelin live, you're way over the wire. If you made it to the Plant/Page 1995 reunion in your early teens you just made the line.

I'd still like to hear your personal observations in either case.

I love older stuff; especially Credence Clearwater Revivial... I live for their music, and other than that I also love Carly Simon, John Hiatt (not that old, but not exactly current), Janis Joplin, Marvin Gaye... The list goes on.

I haven't personally noticed a "trend" in older music resufacing amoungst today's youth, but do be perfectly honest, aside from myself, I don't actually know many of today's youth.

I love older music...Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, The Doors, Queen, Ted Nugent, etc. I'm not so big on newer stuff, unless it stands out or is at least decent. No pop or rap for me. As for old music now being trendy...I don't think it's necessarily people finding thier "musical roots" or seeking out better music. It seems like people dip into classics because it's now percieved as "cool vintage". But, that's how most things go today...people get into great things for all the wrong reasons.

aight then. Grateful Dead is major big in my school now...and the beatles...and this other band...i'm trying to remember who but...
my brothers ( almost 11...and 8. yea i know my memory sucks. and theres only three of them to remember. but i'm stuck at them in kindergarten. they grow too fast.) always raid my dad's cds. partially cuz they know so much better than to try and raid mine. i'll let them borrow 'em but they owe me a new one and an extra if they scratch it. i'm protective of my music. *shrugs* so far its worked.
just gotta keep an eye out for the dog. pappilion. i trip and the cd player does this amazing slow motion fly and blam. spits out this pretty little cd that might flip might twist...it depends on the cd and it brightens up the floor for a few seconds before i get to it. dogs.

they seem to really like his '60's cds. i like the song..with the girl walking down the street and she's singing somethign with a d....doo waa diddy or something...you'll hafta pardon my memory a great deal. its been on vacation. might still be on vacation. i'll hafta go check. pardon me while i go check... wait...that might take a bit. i'll do it in a few minutes.

even though its all they really have access to, they do really like it. kids at school...some are just doing it for the trendiness, and i think i overheard someone say its good music for certain types of illegal activities. i'll leave ya to piece that one together.
i like that partridge family song...i think i love you. good song. i always feel bad when people ask me what type of music i like cuz i can't answer in a short amount of time. not that i can really do that with much else cuz i tend to ramble but...'sides the point, i like a lil of this a lil of that. im not big on rap, it can have a good beat (i think?...i dunno im not any good at that stuff. im rythymless. its bad. i can't even clap right. or feet tap.) i'm not a country fan at all, but i like bach. now if thats not old then....but fur elise...thats a real pretty song....then veruca salt, killing heidi, kill hannah, placebo, Fiona Apple, Tori Amos,....nothing's really like the other.

i dun usually like music cuz its in. sometimes i dont like it cuz its in. i didn't like the spice girls when they were big,...but...they're not that bad. i'll never buy a cd less its like a penny and i can hide it, but i prolly won't turn the radio off.
i do notice a lot people just latching onto stuff like popular music, and for the people that start out liking the bands for the bands, its sorta not that great for, cuz people just think they're latching onto a fad when they mightve started it. i dunno...
for me depends on the song and my mood...mighta said that before....not sure but...

You crack me up Faith's 5X5. Are you any relation to Rene?

Back on subject though, I'm almost ready to say the article seems to be correct. Kids might not necessarily prefer the older music, but they do seem to be attracted to it.

Well, I know I like some of the older music just because when I was younger I had no power over the radio station and my parents listen to it. A lot of the new stuff is total crap but every once in a while there comes something great. I think most people like old and new music... it's a blending of the eras.

It's just a little creepy when my parents listen to the modern stuff. Not a lot... just a little.

Not that I'm aware of, but hey ynever know. hm...ot but...yknow its now ok to end a sentence with a preposition? iwas gonna stop at aware of. but....anyway....
glad im at least grinworthy. :: tu :: grinning is good. healthy too.

lol see i think it is so neat that i got my dad hooked onto a band. I drug him out to this concert cuz I really liked Kill Hannah and now everytime I get in the car and my mom's not there, guess what finds itself in the cd player? Kill Hannah.
my mom likes Norah Jones, shes aight but...

yea, i mean im pretty sure that if you went to every kid, figured out what type of music they liked and then played old and new stuff theyd like some of both. some songs are just really good and can stand the test of time. some can't, well at least for most of the ppl, so they tend to be forgotten a bit, but they maybe really good as well...so....school. 🙁 yucky place. oh well a yr an a month...then more school. but better school. so...im gonna go so i dun get in trouble.
