So this has been bothering me for a while now and I thought I might share my botherdness. Have a vague memory of a Killed by Death thread, but couldn't find it.

So what does Cordelia mean with her "thing" comment when the Scoobies are outside of Buffy's room? First she talks about how her friend had plastical surgery there and then she moves on to talking about "that thing" on Buffy's face. What the beep does she mean?

I think it's her nose. If you look, SMG's nose kind of has a hump on it, near the end. That could be the 'thing' because around that time, Cordy is talking about someone who went to Sunnydale Hospital for a nose job.

Or it could just be Cordy being Cordy.

I've thought about this too, I think Cordy probably means her nose, though it's not really clear to me what she's talking about and I think that's also part of the point; Cordy talks about this "thing" as it's something everyone knows and thinks about when really there's no big thing in her face, well except that little hump on the nose, lol.

Thank you!

Lol, I was actually thinking of starting a thread like this one.. I have no idea what she meant actually, hm, always wondered...

I love it though, how she talks about it as if it's so obvious and all... heh... So very Cordy and kinda fun..

I love that bit in this episode to, and this is actually one of my favourte episodes.

OT Although I could never figure out how that demon was into hospitals, sunnydale and where ever buffys cousin went, was there more than one or did it move, or did buffys cousin live in or near to sunnydale?

Since Buffy was a child at the time, this probably took place in LA which, while also having a sizeable demon population of its own, is close enough to Sunnydale for numerous cross-over guest shots. :: red dev

Buffy, well Sarah, has a very very small mole on her chin.
I think that was Cordy meant, because it's something very small that no one would notice but her.

I think that Cordy was referring to Buffy's nose.

XANDER: Do you think she's gonna be okay in here?

CORDELIA: I don't know, Lysette got her nose done here, and she came in looking for the Gwyneth Paltrow, and it looked more like the Mr. Potatohead.

XANDER: Cordy...

WILLOW: Buffy's not here for cosmetic surgery.

CORDELIA: No, but while she's in here, she might as well get that thing done. You know, that thing on her face? You know that thing.

WILLOW: (to Xander) Do you think Angel will attack Buffy in here?

XANDER: He can come in, it's a public building.

WILLOW: (worried) That's true.

CORDELIA: Am I the only one that's noticed that thing?

I just think that the others didn't say anything because

1)It wasn't an appropiate time.

2)They probably didn't want to say anything about Buffy's nose because that's their friend.

It's also very Cordylike to refer to it as "that thing" instead of her nose.

Good point
doesnt sarah have something wrong with her nose? I know ive read somewhere she does. The writers were prolly just joking with that bit, plus it gave room for Cordy to be Cordy, too.

I dont think it really matters what it was. The point was Cordy found a flaw on Buffy's face that was really obvious to her but no one knew what she was talking about. Because no one is as superficial as cordy. I dont think anyone was ever supposed to know what she was talking about. That was the point.

Yeah I agree, I actually always thought there wasn't anything there, which would make it funnier and more like Cordelia, heh.. Still fun to think of what Cordelia could have possible meant..

she was talking about buffys nose.. to say the least it is cordy being her old fashion self

I originally thought it might be Buffy's nose, but I've just noticed this small spot on Buffy's complexion. I originally thought it was just that, a spot, but she seems to have it in every season.

But that's just being excessively picky. I don't think there is anything that Buffy needs to change. I just think Cordy is trying to find fault 🙂

I'm on my second in-order viewing of BtVS and am currently on this episode.
I totally forgot Stanford from Sex and the City was the security guard in this!! Oodles of fun this is!
And I'm thinking the "thing" is Buffy's nose.

I think its her nose too, I remember SMG saying in an interview that she would never get it fixed, so i think its just the writers having a little fun at her expense.

Although this reminds me of Dead Man's Party and Willow goes on about 'that thing you do with your mouth that boys like'...what thing?????

I think Willow is referring to her little half-smile, but then there's a whole 'nother interpretation that is not fit for a family board.

yeah, I think its best we stay clear of that line of thought...I really don't want to get banned!
