Spring

A girl is born in
Fuji's blossom-filled shadow.
Her name is Kimi.

Summer

Kenjiro explains
her role in eternal war.
She embraces the flame.

Autumn

Evil from the West.
Hisaaki's sorcerers call -
She cannot refuse.

Winter

On Honshu's cold shore,
Fighting the corrupt fanged ones,
Kimi dies bravely.

Notes:

I believe Kimi ("she who is without equal" - there can be only one😉) and Kenjiro ("second son
who sees with insight" - watcher😉) to be authentic Japanese names and I'm assuming that
they existed at the time this is set .

Prince Hisaaki was a Shogun whose reign ended in 1308.

The vamps are Chinese - probably from one of those old Hong Kong horror thingies (or "Big Trouble in Little China"🙂)

Apologies to all fans of the haiku form. I've never attempted anything like this before - please feel free to let me know where I got it right and where I got it wrong.

I love the Haiku!! I did something similar to that once with the different seasons. :D

Ummm, may I say, with typical dwarfy understatement, WOW! This was SO worth waiting for! Bravo!!! Encore!!!!
Thanks for the kind words guys. I wasn't sure about this but you've made me feel a lot better.

BTW - while I was researching about haikus I found out that each should contain a word defining the season or kigo (besides the title😉). I think that Spring, Summer and Winter are reasonably easy to spot but a big Pointy No-prize to the member who can spot the kigo for Autumn and the spurious reasoning I used for it...

Sorry, I forgot the rule about this...The End
You can now officially post coments here...😉

Have no clue how to do them comments. So, I'll just let you know what I thought the old fashioned way.

I liked it very much. It's quite a fresh way of looking at it. I especially liked how her story fits so well with the seasons. And I liked what you did with the names.

I'm not familiar with all the "rules" for a Haiku, but from what I know you succeeded pretty well. One thing I do know is that they're not supposed to have titles. But I guess that since in this case the haiku is only part of a larger text, one could say, they're not titles. Also, on could argue there is a certain refference to autumn, with the falling of the leaves trees prepare themselves for the coming of the cold, the winter. Here, the Shogun prepares himself for the coming of the vampires. Although, it can't be summed up in one word.

Hi Ally, good to see you back 🙂
Thanks for the kind words. I did take a couple of liberties with haiku conventions - the main one being titles, as you say, but that just felt right. As for the autumn kigo, your explanation is far better than my more prosaic one 😉 I was just going for the fact that sorcerers (and witches and warlocks etc.) all come out at hallowe'en 😀

Sorcerers and Halloween is good too! Lol! I, amongst others, have to study poetry at University; so, I'm educated at talking gibberish and calling it literary analysis. (I know; I'm such a cheater!)
