In light of Joss's new project, there might be some people who are less familiar with The Avengers than nerds like me and Sco, so here's a handy little 'get to know the characters' site.

Thanks I needed to touch up on those details. I feel like a nerd that I knew most of those details and have not even read the comics.

Do I have to point out that you've all known the coolest Avenger of them all for several years, now? These other guys are just a bunch of Johnny-come-latelies trying to cash in on the name.

Seriously, this is one of the two movies for next year that I'm really looking forward to. I just hope that they don't screw up Captain America's character too much, or make Thor too...godlike.

Thank you for posting, its always good to brush up on the other Avengers I didn't know too much about. I feel like such a nerd but I'm already counting down this film and its not even been made yet. Definitely looking forward to it big time though!

We've talked about this before...extensively. There are just too many Avengers for one movie to do it justice. (I think I'm mixing my comics here, lol)

I'm more than a little worried about Nick Fury, especially considering Jackson's nine movie deal. His last appearances have been more like cameos, and if they do that here, people won't be happy.

I'm also worried about Chris Evans playing Cap, but that's not really Joss's problem, since I think he was on board as Cap before Joss decided to do this.

This is going to be an amazing movie I'm happy Joss is doing it, and so many familiar faces 🙂

Especially Jeremy Renner, love him! I loved him in that one episode of Angel also, like my fav episode.

I think the movie will play to Joss' strengths. Character interaction mixed with big old fight scenes. I don't expect a huge insight or back-story for the characters, just an enjoyable action flick with some humor and the occasional emotional moment. I'm guessing it will be like X-men 2. Lots happening but taking the time to give each character at least one memorable scene.
I wish that X-men first class could make mention of Magneto's kids, so that we could get the Scarlet Witch or Quicksilver in there 😀. Hulk as an Avenger still feels odd to me but he's a high profile character so it makes sense.

Hawkeye is my fave avenger, so I'm really happy he's there. Even though he'll probably be a shield agent like in The Ultimates along with Black Widow. I guess that will save time spent on their origins. They work for Nick Fury - that's it.

But see, I what you described as Avengers 2. They have to play up the backstory; have to first show how Cap'n became the "first" avenger and how people came together etc. I think alot of it, if it introduces all the characters in more than cameo capacity, will just be 'filler' for Avengers 2. Honestly.

I'm torn about my feelings about Jackson as Fury. On the one hand, he's (obviously) not the image we've been raised to know as Nick Fury. On the other, comic character's looks and even stories change all the time. I think Jackson is a perfect actor and the character is ...interchangable? (Not sure if that's the word I'm looking for.)

I think no matter what the plot will be and how actors have been cast this is still going to be a pretty big film. Its the first for Marvel to do such a big cross over film with all the subtle hints in between. Especially from what we've had in Iron Man 1 & 2, The Incredible Hulk and what will come in Thor and Captain America. It still baffles me though how Chris Evans got the role after playing Johnny Storm though, I hope in the near future there won't be a weird cross over of the Fantastic Four and another Captain America film.

What makes me excited for this is film is Joss writing it, at Comic-Con he made it pretty obvious that this was a dream for him. He's been passionate about comics since he was a child and knows all his superheroes backwards. I'd be more worried if they bought in a writer who knew squat about the Marvel world and gave us something backwards. I do wish Edward Norton had been asked back to be Hulk because he actually did that character justice in The Incredible Hulk unlike Eric Bana's take on it. I'm sure Mark Ruffalo will bring a new perspective though. Another plus is Jon Favreau who directed the Iron Man films is excutive producer, once reassuring most that this film won't dive bomb or become too big for its boots.

I do wish Edward Norton had been asked back to be Hulk ...

From rumors I've read, he was in talks to be the Hulk but there ended up being "personality conflicts" that prevented him reprising the role.

Yes, his personality wanted more money than the personalities at Marvel wanted to pay. Supposedly Bruce Banner has a very limited role while the Hulk has a larger one.

That problem can be solved pretty easy. Norton just has to work on a gamma ray formula that increases his size, strength, speed, agility, body mass, etc. Then it'll have to all go drastically wrong so he becomes something monsterous when he's angry. Then BAM...both rolls. 🙂
