this wasnt asked before anywhere that i could find, and i was wondering, why did kralik need pills? don't vampires get cured of their illnesses when they are vamped? that's what happened to darla when she was vamped, which was why she had to get vamped again in 'angel' to live. this just confused me and i was wondering if anyone knew what the deal was.

Kralik had mental problems, which is what he needed the pills for, right? we all know that mental health issues carry on after the person has been vamped, we all saw it with Drusilla.

Yeah, I agree with Lyri, it must be that Mental problems come with you when you become a vampire while bodily diseases are gone.

One might say Buffyverse vampirism doesn't view radical chemical imbalances of the brain as a disease.

Vampires can also be drugged.

It's interesting though. I got to thinking. Joyce died of Oligodendroglioma - a brain tumor. If she had been vamped, would she have survived as a vampire?

A chip is put in Spike's brain. You can run a sword through a vampire, and the tissue will repair itself. Why would a chip be able to alter Spike's brain? If a chip can alter a vampire brain, why can't a tumor?

It would seem foreign bodies are tolerated in the vampire brain.

Does vampirism neglect the whole physical brain area in Buffy/Angel? That can't be true, or the brain would die.

Here's what I'm thinking. The chip doesn't physically damage the brain. It only does something like send electro impulses into certain areas of the brain. Buffyverse vampirism allows that.

Well the chip must work on impulses through neurons, that run down the spine and control your actions and movements, like if you put your hand on a hot frying pan, and impulse travels up the neuron, although it doesn't go all the way up in this example as you would continue burning your finger, it only travels up to a certain point where it automatically sends a signal back down and makes you lift your hand.

But if you were to move your finger the impulse gets sent up to your brain and the brain sends a signal back down and it happens, of course this all happens unbelievably fast. But the chip must work on that somehow, it must judge the impulse when it gets to the brain and send a signal saying "no" so the Spike couldn't act on his urges.
