Should Kristy have been given a role in the TV series?
It seems like a smart thing to do...give the original Buffy a role in the series if only for an episode or two.

(or was she in it somewhere and I don't know it...)

It would have been a nice nod, but as far as I know Joss has pretty much disowned the movie and anything to do with it.
The few oblique references the series contains is I image the extent of his interest in tying the two together in the same in-universe.
Other than Seth Green, but he was cut from the movie so the tie isn't strong there.

I can't think of a role that would have worked for Kristy, and I think she was at an awkward age for it. She would have been older than Buffy, Willow, Xander, etc., but younger than the adults. It would probably end up being very much like Dawn, who had no one her age to hang out with. The only thing I can think of working is a once-off with her as a demon or vampire or something, or a flashback with her as a previous Slayer. But then, I don't write for Buffy, and I'm sure the writers could have come up with something. I mean, they almost got Britney Spears in there. And in my mind, Britney and Buffy are unmixy things.

And yet, Britney and Sarah are good friends. Unmixy indeed.

i agree bb. the age thing would definitely have been an issue. kristy was in buffy in 1992, the tv show wasnt until 1997. kristy already looked to old and adding another 5 years to that would have been a trainwreck. she would have been 28 years old and playing a sophmore in high school.

they were wise in casting a younger girl.

On top of everything else, she was in a series called "Early Edition" about the time that the early seasons of "BuffY" were on, so she wouldn't have been available even if Joss had wanted her.

I am glad she wasn't cast in Buffy the series. I just don't think she was right for the part.

She wasn't a good Buffy. The Buffy bot is better! I think maybe Mercedes McNab would have made a great Buffy, cause she got the right acting style and the look x

Ugh. Buffy the *movie* sucked major butt. Kristy Swanson is a fly-by-night actress. SMG made Buffy what it was supposed to be.

Heck, I can't even imagine Charisma Carpenter as Buffy. You know, she auditioned for the part, but ended up as Cordelia. Which was a GOOD thing. 😉

Swanson was *awful* in the movie, which really is saying something considering how bad the film was. Joss would have been 7 kinds of crazy to cast her (which thankfully he is not).

Heres how I see her "guest" appearance working:

Make her the slayer preceeded Buffy or make her the bot that Warren originally assembles in S5.

Good indeed, and Charisma was glad about it too... she said she got to play the bitcha, and was very happy with Cordelia. (Most of the time...)

Also-Kristy Swanson? Heck no... I'd rather see Britney Spears. She was on How I Met Your Mother, and was okay. Better than KS in the entire movie.

I haven't seen the movie, but from what I've heard of Kristy I'm glad she wasn't a part of the show. I think it was a wise decision to keep the show and movie seperate. Besides, I can't think of a suitable role Kristy could have had other than a bad guy.
