Since the anniversary of Cobain's death is upon us, I was wondering who on the boards is/was a fan. Also...what's your personal opinion concerning Kurt's life and death?
 
I can't believe it's been ten years. I remember we didn't have school that day, and I was watching MTV and they cut in with a special report.
 
I was about 9 years old when it happened. I remember seeing them perform on SNL and being completely awed by them, even at such a young age. I'm watching the Unplugged performance now, and it's so...haunting...hearing Kurt singing "All Apologies" I want to make a trip up to Aberdeen someday...
 
Okay, so I ended up watching a special on Nirvana just on MTV, ended up bawling and now I can't sleep and so I'm back.

I was 16. If you weren't 'around' then - you can't imagine what it was like when they came on the scene. Nirvana was so different from anything that had come before. MTV was playing Poison and AC/DC and Def Leopard and that one with Vince Neil. I personally listened to rap then (when it was good) and they only had it on for about a half hour a day. Then came Nirvana and everything changed. It was music that mattered - that said something. That we identified with. That made a difference. Pearl Jam might be our generation's Doors, but Nirvana was our Beatles. When he died, it was like...it was one of us.
 
I never much cared for Cobain I thought he was just a load, talented no doubt but a load. The one thing that really came from his death was his wife's emergance into the music scene, her group is awesome and she is fantastic as well, dont much care for her outside of singing as she is basically a load as well.

As previously stated, 10 years! Does time fly or what.
 
I was 4 when it happened so I don't really remember it at all...I was probably listening to the Spice Girls back then..oh the shame...
I'm a big fan of Kurt and Nirvana. Nirvana changed the way rock music is today. It's a terrible loss and he shall never be forgotten.

I was 7 at the time so I cant really remember him, but I would of liked to have been able to.

I used to like Nirvana a lot more then I do now but still, Cobain was good and it's a shame he was dead.

As Buffy Summers said Nirvana changed "the scene2, MTV2 (UK) keep saying "Nirvana changed it all, before that it was all big haired rock bands and we don't like that" but they play the darkness. Stupid channel -_-
 
I was about 4 years old when it happened.

My older cousin was a big fan and was always hearing Nirvana so i kind of got a hang of it.

I remember that my cousin was at my house and we where watching TV and we heard that he died on the news. ::crying2: ::crying2: ::crying2:
 
Time really goes fast....I'm usually the one with the "screw that" attitude when someone commits suicide, but I just can't think that way when it comes to Kurt Cobain. That man was juggling some SERIOUS trauma. Every time I hear All Apologies, i get all teary. It was like his suicide note to the world.
 
I was seven then, and actaully a huge fan, like Elizabeth, I had an older cousin who got me into Nirvana... Really into Nirvana, which at seven, probably not the best thing.... Singing "Rape Meeeeee..." Hmm, no, no the best.

And yeah, I remember hearing that he died. I remember crying for a really long time, and my mom was really worried about me and didn't know what to do.

It also affected my whole family rather profoundly... My cousin, who was deeply obsessed with Kurt and Nirvana, well, he was so distraught that he tried to kill himself...

So yeah, I sure do remember that time.
 
It's amazing to see what an impact Kurt had on everyone of all ages. I wish I had been older at the time, so I could of had the chance to see them perform live. They revolutionized a whole *culture* back then. Not many people can claim that fame. I always thought thier All Apologies performance on Unplugged seemed like a final farewell, too. Just listening to thier cds...you can literaly feel the anguish in his voice. In a society full of mass-produced Britney Spears' and Justin Timberlake's, it'd be nice to still have Kurt around...

I was 13 at the time, and i was a Nirvana fan, it was a total shock. I was like...why?? ::crying2: I still believe he was murdered, that it wasn't a suiside, he wouldn't do that, it sucked! Kurt's dead but his memory lives on, forever!
 
I was 8 so obviously by that time in Poland Nirvana's music wasn't hugely popular.. I don't remember whether I've heard bout it on the news or not..
 
as most of us, i was a youngin when kurt passed too. my brothers were big fans so i seen the band, and heard the music, but at the time wasn't into it 😡 later on, after my brother's weren't so much into it i really got into music, and became a fan, took all there nirvana posters and CD's..haha ::evil2::
still hasn't hit me, 10 years.... i seen a few trubites on mtv and what not, so that's really how i knew about it, i never kept track of the day he went. i will now tho 🙂 and i miss him, it's werid, i never knew him(duh) but it hurts, poor guy, was messed up pretty bad, but hott lol 🙄

I meant to ask you in my previous post...whatever became of your cousin after all that?

He kind of dropped out of the world for a while, was kind of... broken for a while, didn't do much... Now he has a pretty productive life, he's married, has a good job and he is the frontman of a band, that's actually pretty good... And the Nivana influence can be heard.

Good 🙂...And I can't believe I owned up to listening to them....ah well..

In the UK, there was a tribute to Kurt on radio 1, did anyone listen to it?
It was all about a fan who got to go around, talking to people who meant a lot to Kurt like his Grandfather etc 🙂 Was very moving 🙂

I'm a fan of Nirvana and Kurt Cobain...I was only 8 when he died...so I didn't really know of him back then,...but with the time that has past since that awful day, I've learned a lot about him, and his music...I've been a fan now for the past couple of years...If there's something on t.v. that mentions Kurt or Nirvana, then I have to watch it...

In a way I guess, it's like now it's my turn to mourn him, yah know? cos those of you who where teenagers back then, when, Nirvana was huge, probably got to go to concerts, and see Kurt try to shove his guitar through the amp, and dive into Dave's drum kit,...but I'll never get to see that...except on pre-recorded tapes and on television...it's not the same as see Kurt crawling around on stage in women's clothes, live on stage...yah know?...

Kurt Cobain was/is the most influential and most brilliant musician to this very day, his music resonates within all of us, whenever we feel hopeless, or lonely, or whatever, we can all relate to Nirvana's lyrics, one way or the other...I know I can...
