This occurred while I was watching KTLA last night...everyone was caught off guard. This includes the bomb squad, the fire chief, and assorted police officers.

It was a planned detonation. *sighs* I've included the KCAL9/CBS2 video, since it has a higher resolution.

 
They seem to breeze back and forth between calling them fireworks and IED's. If they hadn't attempted to take the devices away, they would have been sold to people for the July 4 celebrations and set off safely. Or were they IED's intended to destroy targets? The news never seems to have the real story..
 
Fireworks are banned in most of LA, but that doesn't stop people from getting them...last year, July 4th celebrations were STRICTLY prohibited and that was definitely enforced.

So this year, all those idiots who were pissed off have actually been setting off illegal fireworks for roughly two weeks. I can't even begin to describe how horrible it's going to be for the next few nights.

Two weeks is a short time compared to here. But yeah, setting them off, as dry as you are (by you, I mean the state, not saying anything about you being old or nothing) it could be bad.
 
Basically, this will be LA over the weekend.

Not really. Then again, fire season is nearly upon us. Yeah, that should be fun! (So glad I don't live in the hills)
