Oh man, I saw this today and I 100% LOVED this film!! I was really worried that I'd hyped it up too much in my head and it wouldn't live up to my expectations but I loved every single bit of it. It more than lived up to the hype! Some of it totally stinks of Whedon and it's just awesome 😀 I also loved that since my mate had his Cap Tshirt on that a bunch of fellow Avengers fans kept stopping us to say "IT WAS AWESOME!" and stuff like that :') Man I am SO happy with it!!

I am, of course, talking about us being one of the LAST COUNTRIES to get The Avengers. The movie was shot here. The director is American. Most of the people in it are American. It only seems right that Americans would get it first, don't you agree? Please reconsider this current plan for future film releases.

Actually, I heard that the reason "The Avengers" hasn't opened in the U S yet is that they're scared the "John Carter" fans will retaliate for the crappy way that Disney failed to mount an effective advertizing campaign for their movie, almost assuring that there will be no sequel. We're a small group, but we're also dedicated, committed, and meaner than a room full of pi**ed off scorpions.
And no sarcastic remarks here, or you might just wind up getting a bomb delivered in your e-mail.
I don't understand the system for release dates. You guys got Woman in Black before us and it was shot here with Brit actors with Brit lotto money and a Brit production company... but nope you got it first! I don't think where/who made it is a factor when they work these things out!

LOL, I don't think so either. The release system is quite odd, I must admit. I generally don't care who gets movies first, I'm just butthurt and terribly jealous at the moment. It's awful. I need to see this movie! 😵

The only conclusion I can think of for the UK getting The Avengers wait... "Avengers Assemble" earlier is because if it was released next week it's going to coincide with the May Day bank holiday. But I could be completely off the mark on that one.

The almost certain success of "The Avengers" is, at best, a mixed blessing. Sure everyone loves a good summer blockbuster, and this promises to set new blockbusting standards, but that very success almost certainly means the Joss will be very quickly involved in post production plans for the sequel, which means that he almost certainly won't have a lot of time left over for any of his own properties and projects.
Not necessarily, he has two projects almost done at the minute (the Much Ado adaption and In Your Eyes, which is his own material) and he has said the Dr. Horrible 2 is currently being written. Not only that, he has said that if he were asked to do the sequel to The Avengers, he would want to a much quieter, smaller and more character focused film. He said he would want it to be about what happens after they've saved the world, not the same formula rehashed. I would be very very surprised if Marvel would give him the green light for that.
Either way, we will see Whedon's own personal creations in the very near future.

Well, we can hope so, anyhow. But there's a very good chance that if Disney Studios offers enough money for "Avengers 2," postponing his own stuff for a few more years just might not seem like such a bad thing to him. It just depends on whether Joss the artist can prevail over Joss, the businessman.

So, now it's official: The Avengers just became the movie with the biggest US opening weekend in history, making over $200 million.
Pretty impressive, in my opinion. I think Joss deserves the fame.

THat is beyond impressive. I think we can all give an official "SUCK IT!!!" to naysayers. I am SO PROUD of Joss. I cannot wait to see what he will do be able to do now with that kind of exposure.

To be honest the amount of money the movie makes over opening weekend doesn't really prove Joss is a genius, like this movie was going to shatter records just because of the movie in it.

I'm so proud of Joss!!! And I hope it goes for a 2nd movie (I haven't even seen the 1st one yet). I'd love to see a Superhero movie actually more centering on the characters than on the action and good-winning-over-bad
Remember, Hollywood is all about 'What have you done for me lately?" If Joss were to do another show that was as badly handled as Dollhouse and Firefly and it tanked, he'd be 'cult director' Joss Whedon again. Although it seems that he will be doing movies for the forseeable future. Can't wait for his version Much Ado.

Considering what it has done domestically, and it hasn't even been open for a full 3 days (Let alone what it has done worldwide,) I'd probably drop dead from shock if they didn't AT LEAST OFFER him a sequel. I'm a giant nerd geek person, I do mean GIANT, and I love Joss, I do, but I am more than capable of admitting when he has done something subpar, and I tend to be quite vocal about it. Avengers, for me, is the best comic book movie ever done, and yes, in my view, leaps well ahead of even The Dark Knight. What Joss, Robert, Scarlett, Mark, Samuel, etc have achieved here is absolutely brilliant.
Joss absolutely deserves the fame he's gotten, and will continue to get, from TA.
And yes, I, too, would love to see a movie focused more on the characters, rather than them saving the world, especially with Joss' capabilities in that department.

I agree, I was expecting the movie to fall in some way and was totally ready to blame Joss, but he did a brilliant job with it, I'd definitely be surprised if he didn't get offered the job - but you never know what happens, even looking at the director for the Hunger Games, that was a massive movie and he quit so he's not doing the second one.
But I definitely don't agree that the next should be more character based, I think thats what their own movies are for. I think this had a great amount of character development in it, but I think the more character stuff should be in their own movies, the only reason the Avengers should be gathering together is when the threat is big enough, so I'd prefer Avengers to be the big explosion movie, and the 1 character movies to develop their personalities.
I know Joss said if he directs the next one, he'd want it to be smaller and more intimate, but I really hope that doesn't happen, the action should be bigger and better for the Avengers to gather together.

That's true. Very true. I hadn't considered that when I wrote it (Doesn't help I was half asleep when I did it 😛), but when you put it that way, I definitely agree. The Avengers are not the type of superhero group to just hang about together, going to the pub with one another and such. These aren't The X-men we're talking about. It'd be difficult to write a movie with them coming together where the bad guy was down in 20 minutes and the rest was talking about their feelings. I just don't know how well that works for this particular group, with or without Joss' talent for character development. Avengers wasn't action the entire 2 hours, most of it was, but like you said, there WAS a good bit of character development woven into it. They could do something like that.
My feeling is that even though Joss does want that, I don't know that Marvel would let him do it. Yes, The Avengers was wonderful; Yes, it's being very well received and making a lot of money worldwide, but I don't know that what he has in mind would be nearly as well received. If he does a sequel (And I hope so much that he does, or that he at the very least gets to do one of their character movies. Black Widow, perhaps?) I think he and Marvel will have to compromise a bit.
