Latest news on Angel (or Spike) telemovies

Just saw this over at Whedonesque.

TV Guide has an article that mentions that the Angel, or more likely Spike, telemovies are still a possibility.

Now this may be nothing more than the latest in the long line of lies coming from The WB but i think they may be just desperate enough to really want to do these now. They need something high profile to save the channel from the ratings nightmare it is in so if we were to let them know that a Spike project would be welcomed it may actually happen.

Worth a try at least i think.

By the way, you need to scroll down a fair bit to find the Angel mention.
 
If we all send in postcards to WB like a revival of the Save Angel campaign we could probably get our tv movies. I personally don't like Spike though.
 
I just love this. Herc might be slow to the mark, but finally even he has figured out not every word out of the WB's mouth is the quote-worthy, golden voice of, sermon on the mount, truth.

Now if we can just convince she of the happy, smiley facey - Kristin of eOnline, and that ever stupid, WB quoting mouthpiece from TV Guide, maybe we can discuss whether or not "The Joss to do Wonder Woman" rumour that came out a couple of weeks ago needs to chiseled into stone, as they all said it did.

If you, gentle reader, are one of the 17 Americans who are not aware of it, here's the what. Someone named Grace wrote TV Guide's Mike Ausiello with this:

I'm pleased to hear that you plan to ask the WB folks about Angel movies, but please, what we need are Spike movies starring James Marsters. So, if those WBers try to brush you off with a generic "David Boreanaz is busy," you'll help us out and ask specifically about Spike, won't you please? "” Grace
Ausiello replied:

Ausiello: As you predicted, WB president David Janollari immediately played the "[Boreanaz] has a lot of other things going on" card when I asked him for an update on the Angel movies. But I was ready with my Spike follow-up. "I've never thought of that," he said of doing a Marsters-centric telepic. "I had not thought about it. We always thought Angel would be the character the audience would want to come back to see. We may give some thought to the Spike movie. That's interesting."

For the record, James Marsters revealed on Australian television back in July that Buffiverse mastermind Joss Whedon had approached him about reprising his most famous role in one of four potential TV movies. The news was ceaselessly cycled all over the media for weeks; I think it even trickled all the way down to the local newscasts here in Los Angeles. Can the PRESIDENT OF THE ****ING WB be so consumed with organizing ski trips and tanning sessions and aborting "Global Frequency" that he's wholly unaware that both Marsters and Whedon are keen to make a TV-movie for which millions of fans have been salivating for months??

As much as I'd love to see a Spike movie I still think they need David to be in it, how else would they explain Spike's escape from the Alley? Also they could really do with having sarah michelle gellar in it, and I can't see that happening.

But if this is the only option left, maybe they can get it to work.

Maybe they could do a Spike-centric telemovie set during S3 (before "Lover's Walk") or before he came to Buffy. Maybe he'd need botox or something but im sure Juliet would be willing to do it as well.
 
I just read this on aint it cool. I had never really been to the website but someone said it's a must. I wonder how a spike centric type movie would play.

I think most fans are hungry for anything to do with the buffyverse and I know Joss wouldn't write something subpar but what type of numbers would the WB need in order to call it a success and to continue with this line of movies?

None of the cast wants to be pidgeon holed into their roles but much like the Matlock ( I couldnt think of a better example) movies these movies could be a regular season event and bring in solid numbers every time. I wonder what are these execs looking for from us fans to really push for a reprise of these characters? It took us Family Guy fans making the dvds best sellers to get Fox to take notice what is the WB waiting for?
 
The Spike Telemovie

I've not been able to post here recently due to a lack of internet access so i thought i'd spend a little time checking out the various topics that have started whilst i was away. I'm really surprised to not have seen any discussion on the Spike telemovies i've been reading about elsewhere (such as here and here ) so i thought i'd start a thread to get everyone's opinion on this. I was going to post this in the news section but i figured the topic would be a little more varied than simply responses to the articles above.

So what does everyone think about this? It appears that both Joss and James are very much interested in making this happen and so, network or cable channel allowing, it appears the torch of the Whedonverse is going to be passed to Spike.

Personally i'm fine with this. I am still hoping that if another series happens it will be based around a team rather than an individual (i'm really hoping for a show based on the new Watchers Council) but Spike is a big favourite of mine too so i'm really glad he is getting the spotlight for a while.

My only worry is something i've been reading about at Whedonesque. There are a lot of very vocal Spike haters around who really, really dislike the guy and there is the possibility that this will split the audience for the telemovies, if they happen. I hope this isn't the case because i would imagine that if the Spike telepics don't do well then we can say goodbye to any other future projects from the world of Buffy and Angel.

Hopefully people will see the big picture and support this Spike telepic happening even if they don't really like him. I have to agree with the opinions of others i have been reading that, if you want to see your favourite character back in new adventures, the best way to help make that happen is to show how popular Buffy and Angel still is, and the best way to do that is to support Spike now.

So, anyone have any thoughts on that or on what you would like to see happen in the telepic, if and when it happens?

I actually did consider posting the latest articles in this thread myself but i figured that due to this now seeming to definately be a Spike telemovie, rather than anything to do with Angel himself, it might be better in a section of the board that was more generalised to the rest of the 'verse. Here is fine too though. 😉

Well, I think that any telemovie would be neat, no matter the character. It would just be neat to see our favorite characters back into the swing of things. Whether that be Angel, Spike, or whoever. As long as it's something.

I agree that the WB is probably feeling the heat. It doesn't seem like they are as much of a hit as they used to with Buffy and Angel on the network. Maybe they are getting desperate.

spike is my favorite character and i would love a tele movie! spike has so mant different levels that it could work with just him.
and if there might be four movie then i would LOVE one about angelus, darla, drusilla and spike when they were evil
 
Just thought i'd add a quick update with some news from a recent James Marsters Q&A. This is an article from Moviehole where James mentions that he and Joss have talked about going ahead with a Spike telemovie only a matter of weeks ago.

This sounds more and more promising every time it gets mentioned!
 
I agree with those who are also Spike lovers! Spike is by FAR my favourite character and always has been. I only ever watched Angel when Spike was in it, so as far5 as questioning whether things can survive without David Boreanaz I think James Marsters is a fist class actor and one heck of a star in his own right and should be treated as such. Sorry, but I just don't get why people love Angel so much over Spike. Spike is a stand alone character.

A Spike movie would RULE! I think it would do extremely well and I would be one of it's biggest supporters if it ever came to fruition. Here's hoping eh?! :compsmili
 
oh, i'd LOVE a spike movie! spike was my fave character from way back in S2, and all from 'lover's walk' on, i prayed everynigth that he would come back!! and i got my wish!!
anyway, spike telemovie? YES!!! without question. any season, and place, anytime, i'll take what i can get!!

and BTW, just as a side note...does anyone else think that JM was lying about his age in that interview? he can't really be 43, can he? if he is...damn!! that man really does age well!!

Wow, so not true! it's not his birthdate. Don't know about the here, but he wasn't born in this date.

I have never heard that birthdate for him before. Everywhere I've seen, including imdb.com, which is usually very reliable, say that he was born in 1962.
