I read it - it's okay. I like the art, but it's sort of like...you've already read the book and it feels pretty much the same. It's like Cliff's Notes in comic form.

I'm probably going to skip reading it. I like the series (although the Merry series is slowly becoming my favourite) and this might sound weird, but I have an image in my head about what all the characters look like, and if the drawings in the comic don't match...it'll be a bit weird 🙂

See I'm the opposite - I needed the visual on what they actually looked like. For example Jean-Claude's clothing always sounds really horrible when she describes it in the book lol
 
LOL, I love his clothes! He sounds so striking, always black and white.....The lace, tho. I get that he's 16th century, but c'mon....can we do away with the lace cuffs and collars already? A nice tux, perhaps? Does he ever strike you as just a little effeminate? Might be nice to see some of the getups he puts Anita in, tho!
I am kinda curious about Asher, wouldn't mind seeing him. I don't know if you've gotten that far yet?
What bothers me is that JC is always described as being so 'beautiful,' with the long black hair and the pale skin.....the whip marks on his back....I don't know, I've painted a picture in my head, but that's so subjective, you know?
 
The other thing lol that I was happy to have the comics for is Anita herself. And I don't mean this in a bad way - cause I know it's part of the character and all - but the wash SHE's described always makes me think of her as kind of frumpy by how she dresses, yet the guys think she's so beautiful. Also, even though I know her mother was Latina, I didn't picture her in my mind with that look to her from the reading. So I like having the comic visual accompaniement.

I do think the comics would be better if they went beyond the books, instead of sort of being comic-alizations of the books.

Yeah, I get that...I wouldn't mind seeing Anita brought to life in pictures. Maybe I could read the comics and just mentally block JC? Ha!
i have my own images of them in my head, but i'm with Buffy Summers...Anita sounded frumpy, with her polo shirts, and jeans, and the goddamn Nikes!! lol.
i'm curious to see what they'd be like, just to see if they'd match my ideas of them. but is anyone else dying to see Nathaniel? lol, i know they won' get that far for a while, but i just wanna see their idea of him and his ankle length hair!!

I really prefer the books to the comics. Its just like everyone already said, there wasn't anything new...just been there done that, ruin my mental imagery thing. But, for what they were, they were pretty good. I'll probably still buy the others and keep up with them, but nothing is gonna beat the books.

BTW, there is a new LKH book out, with a new AB short story, along with an older one. The title escapes me at the moment, but I'll post it when I get back home.

And for you Merry fans, Mistral's Kiss hits stores in December! Woot!

an new AB book? excellent! i need my fix. it's been a few months since i read the last one, i've been missing all those guys! lol
i'm starting to wonder, actually, if buying these comics is a good idea. like everyone's already said, we all have our own mental images of these guys, and seeing someone else's idea of them might confuse us. and i've already read every AB book...don't know how good it would be to go over the same stories.
 
Speaking of ruining your mind's imagery, I ran across someone's site a couple weeks ago.....there are drawings of most of the major characters. Pretty good work, I think....altho some of them don't match up with my own imagery. I thought it was pretty interesting to look at, tho! There are more sites out there, but this was the only one I bookmarked.

whoever drew those images is EXTEMELY talented! they are very beautiful, but some of them aren't quite right, in my mind anyway.
in the first Jean-Claude and Anita drawing, JC is way too tall. isn't JC supposed to be the same height as Anita? and for somw reason, i don't like the Nathaniel drawing, he's my faveorite character and i just don't like the way the artist has pictured him.
but this is a great site, thanks for the link, Miffed!!

I liked the Nathaniel one, I wish it was in color. I don't know if you could really capture the color of Nathaniel's (and what about Damian's?) hair in a drawing, tho, and definitely not his eyes. I thought the pics were pretty good, but I agree....some of them don't match up to how I see the character. Hmmmm, I'm going to have to go back and check.....isn't JC a little taller than Anita? I know Micah and Anita are the same height exactly. But I thought JC and Asher were about 5'10" or 5'9"? Not tall, but not as small as Anita either. The perspective is a little off in that first drawing.

Ooooo, what about Richard? And Richard with short hair! I think of his jawline as more squared....but the artist was pretty close to my image with that one. Edward was way off to me....the portrait of Asher, Julianna and JC was cute, but also not the way I see it. I think Asher's teeth should be longer, too......Anita's always talking about nicking her tongue on JC's teeth.

Ok, I'm getting way obsessed.....stopping now....LOL! :jumping40
 
i agree about Nathaniel's and Damien's hair...no one could capture that those colours...i think Damien would be harder to do in colour hair wise, but with those amazing eyes, Nathaniel would be extremely hard. not sure about JC's height...maybe he is a little taller than Anita, and it was Micah i was thinking of. God, can you imagine trying to colour those kitty cat eyes of his? lol
i agree about Richard too, those were some very cool images of him. the short haired pci is my fave though. OMG, i reamember when i read in the book that he'd cut his hair...i think i fell off my chair! totally channeling Anita at that moment! lol
is anybody else dying to see this as a movie instead of just comics?

Oh, btw, the new AB book is a collection of short stories called Strange Candy. I'm reading it as we speak. 😀

LOL, Lyri.....I think I almost fell off the chair, too. I've been thinking that I'd love to see the adventures of AB as a movie....I think almost any of them would work. Maybe not Narcissus in Chains.....Obsidian Butterfly would be awesome, tho. Blue Moon would be, too, I think. And Bloody Bones......LOL! Here I go again.....
