I watched a TV show recently that had a most amazing fact that I wanted to share with you all, but as great as it was, it wasn't strong enough for an entire thread so I thought this one up.

You post something new you learn every day.

So mine today.

Watching Channel 4 Documentary Catastrophe, a show detailing how Catastrophes through out Earths entire life have made way for human life to exist and without would probably mean we wouldn't be here, the most recent piece was from 250 Million Years ago.

During this time an Extinction Level event wiped out 95% of the life on the planet.

This much I admit I already knew.

The bit that is REALLY interesting is that a Purple/Pink bacteria was a large cause of the death of the Oceans/Seas which made them vast waters Pink instead of Blue.

Today I learned that if everyone married someone of a different race and had kids, in 50 years there would be no racial prejudice.

Our Governor in Illinois could appoint someone to be a senator (to fill President Elect Obama's vacated position) even while under arrest or undergoing an impeachment process.

(The appointed senator would still have to be approved by a federal entity... congress I think.)

I also learned that the sun is not yet halfway through its 'life' (Thanks Edmund)

I've also learned that black holes are not cosmic vacuum cleaners of God-like propportion and their draw is not infinite. (if NASA is to be believed at least.)

Even if a black hole (of the same mass as our sun) replaced our sun (as far as proximity goes), we would not get gobbled up by it, it suction would only be 3km.

I also learned what makes a black hole and read (but did not understand) the formula for their suction power.
