Least Favorite 'Ship

For me i find it more strange with Angel moving onto someone else then Buffy. He lived for so long and only ever loved one Woman that for me makes it harder for him to move on.

So you don't like Cangel because it's not Bangel? Gotcha.

In answer to the above i'd have to say yes that is exactly the reason why i don't like Cangel. Angel in my mind doesn't fit with anyone else apart from Buffy. She is the person who brought him out of the wilderness after basicially a century of him living a fruitless life.

Buffy was the person who gave him a purpose and the strength to become someone. If it wasn't for obvious circumstances Angel would have never left Buffy.

Wow. Just... wow. I thought that to assume that all the Cangel hate was due to Bangel fans annoyed because it wasn't Bangel was stupid of me - they must have a reason, right? There are many reasons that I don't like Bangel, but "it's not Cangel" is definitely not one of them. That would be very petty and close-minded of me.

That doesn't mean all of us dislike Cangel for that reason.

So one Bangel fan saying that's their reason means you were correct to assume that Bangel fans (which is lumping them all together) don't like the 'ship because of it?

And so what if that's someone's reasons for it. You may think it's petty and close-minded but it isn't. It's their reason and they are as perfectly entitled to it as you are to yours. And to be honest, it's a perfectly good reason. If someone feels that Buffy and Angel are the best together then it's actually pretty straight forward that they wouldn't like another 'ship that involves one of those characters. All dan k has done is be honest about why he doesn't like something instead of reaching for ways to try and justify why he feels that way.

Back to the topic at hand, I actually think another of my 'least liked' ships is actually Tillow. I've said it before but I find it incredibly unequal and I don't like to see someone having to be so submissive which was Tara all over for much of that relationship.

I agree about Willow/Tara.

Alright, well... I hated Briley: Zero chemistry, it wasn't interesting, totally boring, I didn't like Riley in general, it led to the horrible "Initiative" thing, etc. The only good thing about it was that it barely seemed like they were dating most of the time. Either way, Riley was a total loser, and probably still is one imo. 🙂

I really don't like Bangel. I understand it now and I (kind of) get why people like it, but I just don't feel it. At all. Hence me strongly disliking it.

Bangelus. Even worse than Bangel. Abusive, horrible, deathly, ghastly, etc. I REALLY don't get why anybody would 'ship Bangelus...

Connelia was bad, but it didn't bother me too much since I know that it's not really Cordelia.

I really don't like Bander, they have a good friendship, and I don't want to ruin that.

Angel/Eve makes me cringe. Angel/Nina makes me die of boredom. 😀

Xillow seemed very forced to me.

I also don't like Dander, it's just... Meh. 😀

Despite that list, however, I DO love practically every 'ship that's even mildly canon in the 'verse. 🙂

I don't understand the Bangelus ship. Until recently I didn't think people liked that one!

personally I only ship Bangel...but I lke bangelus not in the sense of admiring it...I just try to see angelus' feelings for Buffy...I don't believe he just hates her...it is a compliacated thing
I don't like Xillow either ,because she belongs with Oz seeing as he's alive and Tara's not, and she will always love him!
I don't like Dander either because IT'S SO WEIRD!!!!!!!!!!!

And I hated Briley because I hate Riley and there's no love in the relationship!

Really? I thought the Initiative was a good idea. The implementation wasn't great, since Riley's military rank was "Agent" somehow, and the US Government appointed a Mad Scientist to run a military outpost...

One thing I LOVED was seeing the Initiative's best & brightest couldn't even get Angel to break a sweat 🙂

Haha, yeah, that Angel vs. Riley fight was great, 'bout time somebody showed Riley how it was :D
So Angel's not allowed to like girls who aren't Buffy?

What I'm saying is Angel shouldn't be with any girl, not with Buffy, not with Cordelia, not with anybody. That doesn't mean he can't develop feelings for someone but he can't act on them. The reasons he left Buffy apply to every girl he could be with.

I loved him threatening Angel with a handgun. Aside from giving Angel an excuse to kill him, what did he think bullets would accomplish against a vampire? Even weak ones survive GSWs, but Angel just shakes them off 😛

Too true- I almost felt bad for Riley, it was so pathetic. :P
I loved Cangel because it was a friendship that blossomed into more! But I always thought it was weird and out of character for Angel to get with that werewolf girl in season 5... I mean come on... I know you always want the hero to have a love interest but that was such a pathetic move for me. She didn't even have any impact on the story and it felt so forced... like LET'S GET A GIRL WITH ANGEL, and oh YEA let's again say it's just not perfect happiness since it's not Buffy, because there's actually a meter to compare happiness...

Yes and no, the reasons he left Buffy were extremely specific.

The clause in his curse was for moment of pure happiness, not a moment of pure pleasure. We are shown quite clearly that Angel loses his soul post coitus, not during. Angel lost his soul to Buffy because of the significance them making love had to him. For a hundred years as a vampire with a soul and for several as human he was told that he was worthless, useless and unwanted and better served the universe dead. He lived in the dark, consumed with guilt and never had any reason that his existence would change. Buffy changed that and the by making love she was telling Angel that he was worthwhile, that he was wanted, that he was loved and most importantly he had hope of being more than what he was because if the one girl in all the world that you love and is the same girl who was supposed to hate you can love you, than surely anything is possible? It's no wonder Angel found peace with these thoughts.

All of the above could not be repeated with another woman. It may not even be repeated with Buffy. Angel's soul was never at risk with another woman because no one ever held the significance that Buffy did in those moments in Surprise.

You know, I never really thought of it like that. I just assumed he would always lose his soul if he had sex with a person he was in love with; hence one of the reasons I didn't get Cangel.

But this makes much more sense all around 😛

Besides the sex thing, there's also the fact that he's a champion, and also a vampire, so kids/sunlight are right out. Sex wasn't the only reason he left her.

The reason he left Buffy i think was clear. He repeatedly said he didn't think it was fair on Buffy in terms of the relationship they had. He couldn't give her the life she deserved. Sex was only one part of why he left her. Other reasons included no chance of having kids and no sunlight

To circumvent the curse, he could just have Buffy press a cross against his face whenever they're "intimate" 😛

That is, assuming Spike's wrong about Angel being a masochist.

LMAO, press a cross in his face! :)

OK. I apologise for the over-generalisation, but I did warn about it in the signature. 😉

It is not a perfectly good reason. It's close-minded because it's not judging Cangel on its own merits. It's a perfectly valid reason to prefer Bangel, but not to dislike Cangel. Imagine you're at dinner, with hypthetic people Bob and Alice...

Alice: It's trifle for pudding.
Bob: I don't like trifle.
Alice: Oh. Why not?
Bob: Well, I think the best pudding is cheesecake.
Alice: ...

Wahahahahahahaha, trifle pudding.
I think your confused about what i am trying to say, perhaps i should have worded myself in a better way. It sounds as if you think i really detest Cangel, that isn't the case. I don't like it simply because i think Bangel is a stronger, more meaningful ship. That's not me being close minded, i see the benefits of Cangel, the bond they had grew over time and itself was quite special, but for me it never had the capability of being as intense as Bangel was from almost the moment they set eyes on one another.

I didn't think you hated it. I thought you didn't like it, which is what you said.

Clarify for me - are you saying that you prefer Bangel, or that you don't like Cangel?
