Lent

Guys, you are not being funny or clever. It is fine if you don't celebrate Lent, or if you think it is stupid, but the adolescent atheist edge is really unnecessary and does not contribute to the discussion of this thread.

Oh no no, I wasn't meaning to be disrespectful. Being Catholic and having gone to a parochial grade school, it was always the running joke amongst all the kids that that's what everyone wanted to give up for lent. It was quite unanimous feeling though out the entire school. 😉

So… yeah, an adolescent ‘edgy’ joke, no?

The best Catholic jokes I know came from Catholics. Same for other religions.

You're fine. Don't worry about it. 😊
Doh I forgot all about Lent. I suppose all the pancakes I ate last Tuesday should have given me a clue 😉
But I am still annoyed that when I was a kid my mum didn’t tell me you get a day off from what you have given up on a Sunday, so I figure I have a few years credit in the bank !

Is that what Lent is about? What I've found with food and drink is that if you stop eating it for long enough eventually you won't even like the taste as much as you used to. For example I used to drink coca cola all the time but for the last few months I haven't and now when I drink it I still like it but it tastes a lot more watery than I remember so I don't reach for it as much anymore. So that's a good trick.
I gave up sugar in my tea for lent when I was a kid, and to this day I cannot drink tea with sugar in

I find it harder to stop on Sundays than just carry on, although I'm not doing too well this year anyway. I'm so tired this week so while the majority of the washing up is getting done there's always a bit leftover to do another time.

Now that it's Easter how did you do?

I had no takeaways or visits to the bakery, I did not succeed with the washing up.
I did however keep up with the gospel of John podcast, and did stay off here for the last week.
And I still have a pile of things to take to the charity shop, so it was a mixed year, some good some not so good!

I don't celebrate it, but I do enjoy the idea of testing how good my self control is! I have tried noncommittally giving up chocolate for Lent, which never worked because Cadbury's and Mars bars are too delicious to be kept away from me. Next Lent, it's alcohol. I haven't touched a drop of it since July, I think. I do miss a cheeky Bailey's in a hot chocolate in the colder months. Damnit. 😆
