Les Miserables Redux

Apologies for resurrecting this topic. The old thread is in the Cemetery, but I wanted to add myself to the ranks of the Les Miz fans. 😛

Now, I normally wouldn't watch something like this. Save for the one time I went to see "Phantom Of The Opera" years and years ago, I am not a theater-goer at ALL. So naturally I had no interest in watching this or any other production, for that matter.

But our very own Valjavertjinn managed to convince me to give it a shot, and linked me to the Les Miserables 10th Anniversary Concert on Youtube.

Over the last few days I have been watching the show (it's in 15 parts), and have been slowly gaining a love for this show, and a new respect for stage productions.
Les Miserables is an epic watch. It evokes emotions you didn't even know you had. Lol. And some of those songs are just sublime.

My favorite song has to be "Bring Him Home". Although "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" comes a very close second.

I am officially a convert, and I blame Val for this. Curse her! 😉 😛

Anyhoo, I understand that this has been made into an upcoming movie starring Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe in the lead roles of Jean Valjean and Javert, respectively. I think that's a total crock.
I have nothing against those two actors, but they CAN'T SING!!!!

MWAHAHAHAHA! I made him watch it all, and in turn watched as he fell in love! You would not believe how many times he watched the Valjean Quartet of "Bring Him Home."

Anyway, I'm really excited about the movie, though some of the casting choices were dubious. But I'm thrilled that Samantha Barks, who played Eponine in the 25th Anniversary Concert, will be in it! And Colm Wilkinson, the original English Jean Valjean! But he's only the Bishop.

Before Hugh Jackman became Wolverine he was actually in the stage show for Oklahoma and he has a really good voice (even though I might be a little bit bias 🙂)

My cousin raves about this theatre production so I did look for tickets a while ago but they were only showing in London 🙁 I've watched a few songs on youtube though and thought they were amazing. When the film comes out we're going to see it.

I watched an interview with Ann Hathaway for The Dark Knight Rises and they commented on her new hair cut. She says that they actually cut it off in a scene for Les Miserables.

Honestly I'm a bit scared about that movie, especially after what was done to Bel ami, but hopefully it'll be great.

Yea, Ann Hathaway is playing Fantine. I suppose I'm lucky in a way, because I dont know character's in this, having never watched the play, I've got nothing to compare it to. I know the general gist of the storyline but that's it.

I've never fully watched it either but I've studied the novel(s), I guess it's pretty much the same, so I won't spoil you 😉

My opinion of Les Mis is tainted by the fact that the day we saw it in the West End it was 90 degrees outside and the air con was broken in the theatre. If it was less that 120* in there I would be shocked. People were literally passing out all around us and to keep cool, the woman in front of me was fanning herself with her programme, which is fine given the circumstances, except she was wearing a metal charm bracelet so it was like watching a play from behind a wind-chime. It wasn't a good experience, so I am looking forward to seeing it again.

I can't wait to see Hugh Jackman in the Les Mis movie. In my opinion, he CAN sing. Very well, in fact. He's just all-round awesome. 😀

EEEEEEEE! That up there, my friends, is a certain Alfie Boe. His voice is amazing, singularly spectacular, and beautiful. Just sayin'. I would give that clip a listen.
