Lesser known movies

[Washburne]

Why not recommend a movie that could have passed us all by. I'm aware that what goes for lesser known depends on who you are and what kind of people you hang around with. Just lets keep away from the real big blockbusters. A little info or a trailer would be nice even if they may not do the movie justice. Not just listing movie titles, ok?

Ok yes, not the greatest movie in the world and definitely not everyones taste but I find it charming and it makes me smile quite a lot. So if you're interested in a teen movie why not try this one.

The Devil Rides Out (1968)
The Duc de Richeleau and his friend Rex discover their young charge Simon has fallen in with the powers of Darkness and is about to be baptized into the service of evil. The Duc is fortunately versed in such matters and finds himself locked in a duel with the deadly Mocata, disciple of the left-hand path.

She's So Lovely (1997)
Written by the late John Cassavettes in 1987 and filmed by his son Nick a decade later, the comic drama She's So Lovely (originally and more appropriately titled She's De Lovely in honor of the Cole Porter composition central to the movie) stars real-life couple Sean Penn and Robin Wright-Penn as Eddie and Maureen, a young husband and wife whose relationship is strained by Eddie's frequently irrational behavior. When a run-in with a slimy neighbor (James Gandolfini) leaves the pregnant Maureen beaten and bruised, Eddie goes on the warpath, and his violent actions land him in a mental institution. Upon his release a decade later, he discovers Maureen has remarried (to a construction manager portrayed by John Travolta), had two more kids, and moved to the suburbs. Regardless, he resolves to win her back.

[Skanky Vamp]

First thing I can think of off the top of my head (and I don't consider most of those posted to be lesser known) is The Power of One.
Taken from the Bryce Courtenay novel of the same name. The trailer is horrible so I wont show it.

You do get to see a young Stephen Dorff and a younger Daniel Craig. If you go into the movie with the right mindset it can be very uplifting.

As I said, it'll vary depending on the people. I'd be surprised if most people I know would know what movie I was talking about for 2 or more of the movies I posted. While I personally think at least half of them should rank between well or very well known. Her on the other hand is practically unheard of here.

Here's a few off the top of my head...

Whale Rider - one of my all time faves!

Keisha Castle Hughes (GoT) as a Maori girl who sets out to become the 1st female leader of her village. Much better than description.

Gosford Park - another of my all time faves!

Kind of Agatha Christie meets Downton Abbey with an unbelievable cast!

Pan's Labyrinth - another fave!

A WWII era drama meets grim fairy tale. Maybe Del Toro's best.
