'Lessons' Official Discussion Thread

Am I the only one who thought it was horrible? I'm soooo sorry, but I disagree with almost everybody. The only parts that I actually loved were of Giles and Willow in England. Xander & Anya were in less than 10 minutes of it, Anya's hair isn't blonde anymore🙄, and Carlos & Kit aren't that great of actors. It wasn't so much dull, it was more upsetting because I know a Buffy episode can be way better than that. I'm really looking forawrd to the next episode, though, because it obviously has to get way better. I guess I was just expecting it to be different; that's probably why I'm so upset with it. So don't mind me and my complaining.

The new Principal... anyone catch his name??

I think it was "Robin Good", but I'm not sure. If it WAS... well, I have a major (spoiler-possible) clue to his role in this season's arc.

Oh... and to SavageAngel's question on the goings-on in Instanbul.

The girl had a definite Slayer vibe going... there's probably a plot to kill slayers-in-waiting. That or the Watchers in Turkey have a seriously hardcore training program 😉

** Hi to all. A newbie here. I already got my first 'slap on the wrist' from a veteran, informing me to post my observations/question on the BTVS' 1st ep here. Is this OK, Powers-that-Be?**

Ahhhh - Slayer...yeah, I never thought about the girl being a Slayer. Maybe this thing that's in Sunnydale has it's minions running about all over the world...hmm.....

The season premiere was so good!!! I kept jumping when the ghosts kept popping up. This is the Buffy that I have been waiting on. This episode was like a fresh breath of air. I can't wait to see what else is going to happen this year. Is the first evil back? It looked like it at the end of the ep with Buffy's past enemies fading in and out. What's up with Spike? I guess that soul is driving him crazy!! I can't wait until Angel sees him!! hehe😀 😀 Grayson, the new principal's name is Robin Good.

I enjoyed the episode but I'm one of those weird people who actually liked last season lol

First off I agree with one of the other posters, Michelle Trachtenberg is becoming quite the looker. I'm still not big on the idea of her taking over, but I'm already warming up to it a bit after this episode.

I really enjoyed the context the gave Willow's character. Although I think we'll be missing her normal chippery self as this season goes on. I hope Giles continues to appear often.

Buffy.. what can I say she kicked some serious butt in this episode. She suddenly seemed to regain her swagger as the slayer, a good thing in my opinion.

Spike? hmm what will he turn out to be is the question. I'm guessing he will hit the good guy side much quicker than Angel, considering he was already approaching it even as a souless thing.

So the shapeshifter, obviously the most provoking part of this episode. Alot of people seemed to think it was Spike's soul talking to him, I personally think not. The entity referred to itself as I, not we or us to Spike. The episode seemed to revolve around the hell mouth finally serving it's true purpose. So I'm guessing we might finally get a taste of the real "Big Bad."

I completely agree with you sis! I know we talked about it last night, but I am still upset. That ep was a major let down. I so hope next weeks is better.

I like the parts with Spike. I think that he was talking about himself, Buffy and the Shapeshifter, because his soul really didn't seem to be bothering him more than the shapeshifter (main bad guys for every season except season 2).

BTW the principals name is Principal Wood (lol, I hope thats not his first name)

The New Spike

I never thought the entity talking to Spike was real. I thought it was a manifestation of his old "big bad" self. The claw marks on his chest point to the fact that he was trying to get it , his soul, out because he was unprepared for the change its restoration would have have on him. He thought it would be simple; instead he's been driven mad by the conflict of his old self with the new found soul. Angel may have experienced instant remorse, but Spike has never been one to apologize or regret any of his actions in the past. The season two villain should have been Angel(unavailable on WB) or Spike himself, but since his "good" and evil sides are at war, Dru became Buffy's nemesis in the roster of villains. It's interesting to see that , mad or not, Spike still has great insight : the origin of the ghosts. Does this mean that , as some have said, the "Big Bad" for the new season will be Buffy?

hey people!
did anyone read one of my old posts on spike's hair?!?!!
i so called it....lol
anyway, like many of u, i don't get that istanbul part at the beginning either. if she was a slayer, she didn't try and kick any ass, she was just running away.
and about this ep....
it seemed weird how like buffy and xander were all chipper and shiz not really mentionin willow or any of them mentioning tara....(but i guess time went by huh)
anya was in it for like a sec with halfrek
what if halfrek becomes like a regular....and we'll get some ans to that whole her recognizing spike as william thingy back on buffy's bday.
....and that whole soul thing...i thought spike went to the demon to be evil again...and he tried to rip out his heart/soul because that's not wut he wanted....i dunno
i don't understand tha ending still...like ...wuz it all in spike's head? or wut and if i was buffy i would get my ass down there and see wut the deal is after seein him like that ....lol

Yeah the shapeshifting thing was really cool. How do you top a god as the big bad? I am sure Joss and Marti can find a way. I was so shocked to see Glory... "Warren was really Glory!!? OMG!..." Yeah... oops! Well then I saw the rest of the shapeshifters. It was awesome how they went through all the previous big bads and then stopped w/ Buffy. I wonder what that means?

hehe, I thought the same thing!

Kyle: "Whaaat? Glory was Warren all along? That's just- ohhh.. kay.."

And now that that other person mentioned it, I think Angelous should have been in the big bad guy montage/shape shift deal at the end too. Angelous was a great baddie!

All in all though, a fantastic episode, I agree. I've been waiting for Buffy to come back allll summer, and it's good to know that it didn't dissapoint me like *some* other seasons *cough* last year *cough*

heh, well, that's all I have for now

Yeah, my jaw dropped when i saw her! it is so cool to watch it spoiler-free. if i had known the shapeshifting thing was on at the end... that wouldnt have been half as much fun!

I agree that the S2 villian should have been Angelous. I hate this whole "no crossovers" thing. And I agree again, that this premier was way better than last years.

Someone else wondered why Buffy and Xander and I include Dawn, made no mention of where Willow is, what happened to her, tara's death, etc. i know that it has been several months, and i also want to get over last season as quick as possible... but there should have been some closure there. maybe it is upcoming? idk.

tuesdays are fun again!

Still with me? 😉 Anyone out there up on your Shakespeare?
This may be reaching, but IF the Principal's name is "Robin Good" (thanks Eternal Darkness for the back-up)... that could be a play on the name "Robin Goodfellow". That's another name for PUCK, a god (or perhaps demon in the Buffyverse) of trickery and mischief!!!...and guess what, sports fans? Puck's a SHAPE-SHIFTER!!!

FYI - This is just my half-baked deduction (no inside info). It does fit this season's "Let's lighten things up a bit" theme, though.

The shapeshifters were from each season and the went backwards from 6.
6th Season : Warren
5th Season: Glory
4th Season: Adam
3rd Season: The Mayor
2nd Season: Dru
1st Season: The Master
and then it ended with Buffy. I thougt that was pretty interesting. I thought the s.p. was okay but not one of the best. Next week how ever looks quite interesting "Buffy the Guidence Counselor?" 😛 🙂

so I have a question or two about this episode!

1. So it's kinda a given that Spikes a bit loony in the head at the present time, so that seems to complicate matters in the final scene of "lessons". What I cant figure out is(among other things): was the shapeshifter thing Buffy? Was it really her talking to him the whole time, giving him the speech about power and was he just hallucinating (if you will) the whole Adam/Dru/Glory..etc figure?

2. Or, did that shapeshifter thing split right when Buffy came in? Or did it turn into Buffy? Because I think, from what I can remember, Buffy came in from the right of screen, and the shapeshifter thing exited on the left of screen.

shheeesh, what a great episode!

I'll try to answer your question as best as possible:

1 - It wasn't Buffy talking to him the whole time, we haven't seen the shapeshifter's true form yet ^_^

2 - if your talking about the very last scene of the episode that is still the shapeshifter, it went from the Master to Buffy, the true Buffy never showed up in that scene, the shapeshifter took the form of Buffy for the last part of his/her/its speech.

Grayson, Dru is right!! Sorry that I posted the wrong information!!😱 You theory was really good though. I think that it would be funny if the principal was evil again!! hehe😛 😛(Snyder!!)

Nah... the evil principal has been done too many times... Though it WOULD be cool if he was Sweet... I did hear rumours of another musical episode. But I like the principal... he's CUTE, and I think Buffy kinda likes him too. Although I can see the "evil" argument... considering his office is on top of the HellMouth.

Okay, I TOTALLY didn't get the whole shapshifter thing. I had no idea there WOULD be a shapesifter, and I just thought it was Spike hallucinating. But then he DID say "three of us" and I was wondering about that.

Carlos REALLY bugged me... especially when Dawn first meets him in the basement... gah. he was just annoying. Kit wasn't bad though.

The ghosts were freaky as hell. especially the pencil scene. that was just screwed in the head!

Angel should definitely have been the Season 2 Big Bad. ANd interesting that Buffy came last. Hrm.

I still say the shapeshifter's not real...watch me be totally wrong. When Spike says "the three of us", I think he means himself and the good and bad sides of his conscience, you know, the old devil on one shoulder, angel on the other. The Big Bad villains mostly appeared on his right side, while Buffy, his "angel" appeared on the left. 😎
