i watched lie to me recently and i found myself feeloing sorry for ford when he annonced he was dying

what we're your feelings?
 
Different people have different views on death, I see it as a part of life and not a problem.
As far as I was concerned Ford didn't deserved any pity, he was willing to kill another.

My thoughts exactly.
I felt very sorry for Ford but killing people is wrong. So I thought he should be punished for what he was doing. I mean come one, handing over a friend from school so you can be turned into a vamp. Knowing full well she will be killed. That's just well...wrong. But most people aren't really ok with the fact they are going to die, especially at a young age. I def am not ready to die and I think I would want the same way out that he chose. But I wouldn't put other people in danger for it. Atleast I hope I wouldn't.

it really is a complicated position to be in. i know i would not want to die and would want a way out too.
I'm agreeing with everyone else here....so he's gonna die but he is more than willing to sacrifice others so that he'll stay pretty? Not cool.

But that was the point of this ep, wasn't it? To prove what some people will do to survive isn't necessarily going to be a good thing, right?
 
It's a shame that no one explained to him that being turned into a vampire would mean he dies anyway, that a demon would take over his body and he would be gone. Did I feel sorry for him? No, but I can understand where he was coming from. He thought he had the opportunity to live, some people would be able to bloke out the guilt that you were living because someone else is dead. I don't think Ford was evil, I think he was just incredibly desperate and scared. For him to be able to sacrifice a friend was his hight of desperation.

Didn't Buffy explain that though? When she said 'A demon sets up shop in your body and it walks and it acts like you and it remembers your memories but it's not you!' Ford replied that he didn't care
im confused becuase my mum just watched it (my sister is 20 and we've eventually persuaded her to watch the show... she was very stubborn... but who wouldnt wanna watch buffy) anywhos my mum is confused because she said the vamps killed Ford flatout and there was none of that "they suck your blood, you suck theres" with him so how come he's a vamp at the end of the episode? im annoyed cause i know how we all like to smoothe out mistakes or innacuricies as fans lol..... i said that they just did so there... ok not a solid defense i know. please help i need to put the mominator right
 
Spike, or one of the other vamps, definitely would have sired Ford. We didn't get to see it onscreen (probably to try and surprise the viewer when he attacked Buffy at the end) but it would certainly have happened. No doubt about that.

So basically you are right. It wasn't shown but Ford was sired at some point after Buffy left.
 
thank you thats what i said that the deal was that he was going to get turned into a vamp and it woulda happened off screen, my mum said spike said they were going to kill them all, but as Ford knew that, that was the deal. all the vamp fans get killed in exchange for him to be turned.
 
I doubt that Spike changed Ford because of any deal he had made though, if I'm honest. He wouldn't care about breaking his word to Ford. He probably only did it because he knew that it would mean that Buffy would then have to kill someone she cared about. Definitely more Spike's style. 😉
 
I feel sorry him, or anyone for that matter, having to die at such a young age - it's horrible and unfair. That said, there's no way anyone can justify giving up the lives of others to save their own. He knew good and well that the vamps would not only kill Buffy, but everyone else in the cellar - which in my mind, makes him a monster before he was ever turned into a vampire. Like Buffy said - "you HAVE a choice...it's not a good choice - but you have a choice."
 
I loved Ford's character. It was so sad and depressing for him. He obviously was terrified of dieing, only to die anyways. Very sad.
 
I had no sympathy at all for him, he was willing to get a club full of people killed, plus he just generally acted shady.
 
It's sad when someone has a terminal disease, and it's really unfair. But when you have a disease like that you should fight it if you can and if not you have to spend the rest of your life enjoying it, making it worth it, not kill your friends in order so you can live. That's why i didn't like Ford. He semeed a really nice guy, but doing that doesn't make him nice at all.

Anyway, I did feel sorry for him and the truth is that no one knows what they would do in that situation. You can be the most morally just and right person ever in the world, but get handed a death sentence could very possibly negate all of that. The human instinct is survival and that's what he wanted to do is survive no matter what the consequences. The fear of death is one thing but to actually face it is an entirely different entity. As an outsider, I can say that I wouldn't do that, but living inside a diseased and faulty body with an expiration date and seeing a 'way out' (even though we know it's not) by turning into a vampire, I can't say I wouldn't take it.
 
I can understand Ford's desperation but the fact he was willing to sell out Buffy and let numerous innocent people die was just plain selfish. The kid deserved his grisly end, but I liked that the episode explored a more ambiguous morality...
 
I'd have felt more sorry for him if he wasn't such a jerk.
He was willing to get his friends killed, a club full of ignorant people killed, plus whoever he ended up killing once he was turned into a vampire. Doesn't render much sympathy from me.

Ok. So I just re-watched "Lie To Me" and I just have to say what a great episode it is. One of those great stand-alone episodes. Some comments:

This is the first episode we are introduced to Chantrelle/Lily/Anne - I forgot about that!

I do feel sorry for Ford. I mean, he's dying. Sure, he makes some bad choices but I can relate to where he's coming from. When people are faced with death, they do strange things.

It's too bad Ford was evil and had to be killed off - anyone else think he could have made a good love interest for Buffy? He's pretty cute 🙂

I'm sad for Buffy. He lost her friend and he betrayed her.

Good points.

This episode is not really that unrealistic. I think it sheds light on a very important topic; the danger of certain subcultures. You'd be surprised - there are people out there who follow what they call the "vampire lifestyle"...I used to know a guy who injected his girlfriends blood into himself on a regular basis. Some people take this stuff seriously. It's pretty scary.

While most groups discourage actually biting people for the blood they seek, ingesting human blood does occur. It is those people whom we want to explore. I already saw what you're talking about, LifeIsJustThis. It scared me too. It's strange the lengths people will go to only to feel connected to something, to identify...

As for Ford, I know you cannot know those kind of things but I have the feeling that I would never do what he did. I've always thought that if I had to chose between my life and someone's life, I would die. Because in these cases, you're just assuming the other person deserves life less than you do. And that's just extremely full of pride and I could never do that. I could never do something like that and live my whole life thinking, each time I fail, "would that other person have done better ?", etc. Maybe that's because I'm not competitive at all... I don't know.

What Ford did was wrong. I liked how they explained it though, I think noone talked about it, he said that vomitting for 24 hours non stop really changed his vision of right and wrong. I guess when something so unfair happens to you, something that's violent and undeserved, you really think these concepts of right and wrong are totally ... well ... wrong, and that you can get whatever you want, because that's just how life seems to you... Unfair. It must be really hard to be the strongest person against all that crap and just accept it...
