What do you think happens after death? Do you suppose we just... Go... like nothing ever happened. There are no memories, no nothing? Like you were never here? Or do you think we are re-born as another person? Or what? I wish I could know without actually dieing, but that's not possible so what do you think?

probably like the deepest most complex anybody could ask...lol...

hmmm...i don't know...for me...i feel that there is something after...feel it deep in my core...you ask me to prove it or to argue for my feeling..then you got me there...but I just feel it...

we may be walking compost heaps...but the cinergy and the poetry through our biology is falkin remarkable...

I would love to believe there is something after this life, and I have really tried to. But I to be honest I don't believe anything happens at all. I am terrified of dying, cause I believe I'll just disappear, and the thing that frightens me the most is that I won't even remember anything about my life, I won't remember who I am or what I've done, cause there will be nothing to remember since I won't exist in any way anymore (just a body, dead and buried). "After death" isn't even a question for me, since death is eternal and when you've died nothing can ever happen again. (I would really love to believe something else but... this is the only thing that is the least logical to me, and this is what I feel.)

Depressing- but... I think so too.
you're making a very scary point there epo. wish i could agree with you. Because it might make life a little bit easier just to know that hey you die then it's no more.
I definitely don't belive in life after death in the meaning that you go to this heaven/hell place and be happy/miserable the rest of your after-life. But in the same time I do believe that hell is here, on earth (like Buffy says).
Still I believe in karma and reincarnation.

eps...don't be death's bitch...you gotta harness death....reign it in...use it to cherish every falkin breath...whether it be in pain or joy...

I have to say exactly the same thing that epo said... so I won't say it, lol, but yep, I tried too to tell myself there might be something, but if I want to be honest to myself, I can't pretend I believe in anything after death. Maybe, & that's the only thing, someone, once dead, might leave a sort of lasting impression behind, like not only in ppl's mind but in the vibes (energy and such).

I don't really know what to believe. I'd like to believe that there is something after death because I want to know that my friends and family that have died haven't just disappeared into oblivion. But something tells me that there might not be anything there and that the many beliefs in society are there to make people accept their fate. Everyone knows that they will die sometime and it's a nice thing to think that you will still be around in spirit - in heaven. Like I said - I don't really know what I believe.

You do? Heh, we've just been discussing buddhism and hunduism a lot lately and well, I just think it's weirder and weirder. I'd love to believe in reincarnation though, it just doesn't work for me at all.

I fully believe in reincarnation. It makes sense to me spiritually and when you apply physics.

The physics part: energy is finite, there can only be so much of it. So it makes sense that the most logical thing to do would be to recycle this energy. Some people may say that this doesn't work because we have more people around now than we did a hundred or a thousand years ago. But if you look at history, past people's seem to much more greater than people today. The energy was split, divided between the greater number of people than exist now.

The spiritual part: the only way to experience everything that life has to offer is to experience numerous times in different forms. The experience of a straight male is different from that of a straight female, a gay male, etc. The only way to ascend to a higher plane is to experience things in all these guises. Hence you need to come back until you do.

At least that's what I think.

i'm not really sure where i fall with this, but i really strongly doubt that our soul just disappears once we die. i think a soul is something too powerful to just go poof (excuse the simplicity of the term). though our body dies and is buried, i have no idea what happens to our soul, but i'm pretty sure it simply cannot die.
personally i'm not afraid of dying because oddly enough, i find death in many aspects comforting and merciful, in the sense that it sure as hell much better than a few other fates i can think of. another reason why i don't fear it is because once i die, i'm dead. the ones that suffer the most are those who cared about me and are left behind to mourn, so all fears go to them.
but in the end it all comes down to that death is the one thing in life that is inevitable so spending your life fearing it... sorry, i don't think so, i've got better things to do. when it comes, it comes. and whatever happens to me after... that will be after.

I don't agree with all but I like the conception of life you summed up in your last sentence

Hehe, yeah I do. Thought you and me talked about this a loooong time ago? I agree with what phoenixrising wrote. The soul is something mighty powerful and it can't just go poof. And that spiritual part; I believe life is all about learning and living. And no one, how great people might thing she/he is, can learn and experience everything in just one life. There are so many things to learn that it might take thousands of years for some and maybe only a century for others. What happens then? I do believe in angels... Okay I'm not gonna go into what I believe cause then people just gonna think I'm a freak.

Reincarnation is kind of a complex thing and I do see why you think it's weirder and weirder. At times I don't know what the hell to believe, esp when I'm sure god's gonna punish me for something I've done. And that's a funny thing cause I'm not christian. But I think that's just a society thing, not so much my beliefs.

I very much agree, it's stupid to fear death, cause it's gonna happen to us all (obviously), but I just can't decide what to feel about this. I haven't chosen to think this way, I really wish I didn't...

Fran - no we haven't talked about this, believe me I would have remembered, hehe. Well, ok, I've read your (and phoenixrising's) thoughts on this and it still doesn't make more sense to me. I guess we're just different cause I see how that can be a thought, I see how you can think that way but.. no, it's still not logical to me. Maybe cause I tend to make these things rather simple, I believe in what I see (when it comes to these things), I can have theories about the rest of it, the things happening before and after life, the things you can't touch or see.. It's interesting but as much as I'd like to I can't get myself to believe in it. I used to be really into this when I was younger, I even thought about converting to Hinduism for a while, um, yeah well.. from atheist to hindu, but changed my mind...

I'm not sure whether it's off topic or not, but anyway.
The thing with the body disappearing and the "soul" being still "there" is how can it be without having the body to link it to the substance, or real world or whatever you call it. I mean, the soul alone would have no mean to "be" as in thinking, feeling, understanding the world since it would be nothingness. It sounds like the soul would then resemble a thought, and a thought cannot be without people to think it?
Could you just precise what is the soul for you? Is it what make the flesh move? Is it what make you think? Or something else?

I'm pretty like that too, I mean in the believing what I see. The only thing that makes me doubt and wonder very often are the things like Purple X Ray (not sure how you call them in English, do you get what I mean?) or the ultra sounds... such things. I mean, we cannot see them or hear them, but we can prove they exist. When people didn't even know they existed like a century ago. So, I often wonder if they are not things we have not yet discovered, that are invisible so far but which do exist.

The thing with the soul, I can sort of get how the soul can still be there, if it's only like "in total peace" and all that. If you stop being able to think, feel, be and everything.. But yeah, well, what's left really?

I definetly believe there are things we have not yet discovered. I don't doubt that for a second. But until we have proved anything regarding the after death thing (or found anything at that suggests that it could be this or that way), I'm just gonna go with what I find most logical... And that is the empty scary nothingness, heh.

I think that when we die, we end up somewhere... but it deffinatly isn't heaven/hell... it's somewhere else, like a place we knew from life, somewhere we felt safe. Then we just sort of spend eternity there.... hoping we don't get too bored. Hrm, who knows, maybe it's just one big dance club that everyone goes to and we party for all eternity! 🙂

I don't think that death is as eternal as it seems to be. I'm not following the re-incarnation stuff... But like, or essence or "soul" goes to the supposed "happy or sad" places.... I'm not entirely sure WHAT or WHERE... But I do think theres something more out there... Just, something different than where we are now 😛

I'd like to think there's some big and fluffy place where people play harps (cuz, who doesnt look good with a harp?) and Emma Caulfield hand-feeds you grapes...but...ya know, I dunno whether that exists...

I definitely think there is some kinda life after death...
I always imagined a big huge, never ending field with like a huge lake, and then an ocean and stuff like that, where everyone (in your family, and heck, friends maybe) meet up after we're all gowne...

But hey...Im only me...and, my brain isnt exactly what I'd call functional...

Great...now Im babbling...
