I'm really hyper so I'm gunna make a thread! 🙂 I had Driver's Education this marking period and obviously that's the course that prepares you to take the test to get your permit. I was really nervous about it the past few days, and when I took the test today I was shaking becuase I really didn't wanna F this up. So, I went after school with my friends to see what my grade was and I got a 92! You need an 80 or higher to pass. I got the highest grade in the class! My parents are making my appointment tomorrow so I can do my six hours. So, the Hero you've known for a year is all grown up. ::tear:: Or at least he can drive now...? Anyway, yeah, I'm going camping this weekend with my friends and I have a date on Saturday. But, YAY! I got my permit!

Awesome! ROADTRIP!!!!
OH... what's this... Hero happy? *dances the dance of joy* j/k lol.

That's really good honey. Well done you. It seems things are going right for you. 😀 Enjoy this weekend.

Thanks! And to make the day better I'm ordering a pizza and I'm looking at a car that I might buy. So if everything works out by this time next week I'll have finished my six hours and I'll have my own car to start my permit out with.

I'm kinda scared to drive because the teacher pounded the "YOU'RE GOING TO DIE!" idea into our head. Like, we spent a whole week where he just told us different situations where we can die or kill someone and end up in jail. ANd I'm like, "Oh, thanks for that...really..."

lol... You'll be fine. So long as you're sensible when you're driving. No need to be paranoid about it. 😉 Just remember to be a careful and sensible driver and you won't have any accidents.

How does driver training work in the States?

Here in the UK you take driving lessons until your instructor (or you) think you're ready to be tested. The test these days is in two parts - the written test (which I guess is about the Highway Code and road safety - it didn't exist in my day, so sorry to be a bit sketchy) and the road test, where you drive round with an examiner who will assess your driving ability in general and also your ability to perform certain manoeuvres such as emergency stop, hill start, reversing round corners and the dreaded three-point turn (there may be more nowadays🙂)

Big congrats btw Hero - drive safely now🙂

Hey Congrats for the test !!! That sounds really great, neat, driver licence = freedom... lol, maybe not that much but it's cool!
I was about to say be careful but sounds like you're gonna be so just have a good time !!! :dancecalv

It varies, but this is how it works in my school. When a student gets in the 10th grade, instead of having 4 marking periods of gym they have 3 marking periods of gym and one marking period of driver's ed. You have the driver's ed class whenever you're scheduled in and all sophomores have it that year. You have the class for about two and a half months and you learn the road signs, what to and not to do, bla bla bla. Then you take the written test. It's a multiple choice 50 question official state test. You have to pass with an 80 or higher, which means you can't get more than 10 wrong. (I only got four wrong! WEE!) If you fail the test you have to either wait to February or take it again or you go to the DMV and pay 10 dollars to take a retake. When you pass they give you a certificate (ooohhh...i like important papers...) and then you go to the DMV and make an appointment for your six hours and register your car.

Six hours is a course you take with a professional Driving Instructor. Mostly, it's just you driving around for 2 hours on 3 seperate days and you'll pass as long as you don't plow into another car. After the six hours you get your official permit and then you can only drive with a licensed adult, no more than 2 other people in the car, and you can't drive past 11 p.m. You have your permit for six months and after six months you go in and take another road test with the Driving Instructor. If you don't kill anyone with that test they hand you your drivers license. You have a restricted driver's license until you're 18. The restricted driver's license is pretty much the same as your permit, but you don't need to drive with a licensed driver and you can't leave state. So that part pretty much sucks. But after you're 18 you get another new license and then you can pretty much do anything you want.

Elmo - Well, I'm not so much worried about me driving it's that I'm worried about the stupid people drivers. My half sister's (she failed the test, as did a lot of my friends 🙁) teacher told her "YOU'RE NOT GOING TO NEED ALGEBRA OR HISTORY WHEN SOMEONE HITS YOU FROM BEHIND AND YOU BURN TO DEATH IN A SLOW FIREY CAR CRASH!"

Thanks for that Hero - always interesting to find out how folks do things elsewhere.

It sounds like learning to drive is a bit easier and cheaper in the US than in the UK, where most people pay a professional driving instructor for lessons (a lot in my case 🙁) before taking the test. I wish I'd had the chance to take driving lessons in school - do UK schools offer any driving tuition these days, younger Brits?

hehe. Lucky you Hero. I have to wait 4 years till I can drive. Ah well. Drive safe, and don't hit anyone.

A tip from my Mom: When stopping at a light, stop at least a foot away from the other person to avoid crashing.😀

You're supposed to stop 50 feet from a stop sign, but no one does that on my street anyway. So my friends and I are gunna be weird and make a big sign that says "STOP!" and we're gunna hold it up by the stop sign, just to be weird.

It's gunna be a sad class though, cuz only like 50% of my whole entire class (sophomores) passed. So, I'm gunna have a lot of unhappy friends. Oh well!

I've already said it, but...I told you that you'd pass, didn't I? Huh? Way to go, young 'un! Don't worry about the others on the road, just drive definsively and you'll be fine...says the guy who thinks he's Michael Schumacher...

Awww SWEET hon!!! Congrats!!! Lookit out everybody! It isn't safe anymore! 😉 Kidding you know I loves ya!
