Episode Discussion Liked Anne?

I know there are some on the boards that really didn't like the episode. But I did. I really think it was good!
I mean, the story line and the plot. I think it was brilliant and creative.
The whole idea of Buffy being on her own, in a place where she obviously not belongs. And still, she is helping people!

It had some funny/great moments too.
Buffy's "Ghandi" (ya know, if he's really pissed off)
The whole awkvardness between Cordy and Xander.
Joyce blaming Giles.
Lily becoming Anne.
Buffy returning home.
And some more, my weak memory can't remember.. They'll come later, when I can't edit the thread so... meh.

Didn't you like the episode? Why, why not? And what was your favorite moment?
 
Actually, I kinda liked that episode. It was like Buffy's introduction to the "real" world, where the demons that she had to fight every night were boredom, frustration, and loneliness instead of vampires. Kinda dismal, but also kinda realistic. One thing that I always wondered about, though, was whether she ever patrolled while she was there, or if she was just plain too tired after a day of waitressing.

My favourite scene in the entire Whedonverse is from Anne, where Buffy realises who she is and what she has to do...even better than Giles' surprise entrance in Two to go -

Guard: Who are you?
Buffy: [perks up] I'm Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. And you are?

i like it well enough, i especially love the fight scene there. but i don't think it's the best episode or anything.
 
It's good but not among my favorites. It feels a bit slow at times.

Love the "I'm Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. And you are?" moment though. One of the best ever in Buffy.
I still get all excited during the buildup for that. Even though I know what Buffy will say and do by now 😀

The Ghandi comment also makes me laugh every time, it's so random.

I didin't really like it in particular (thoughI haven't seen it long enough to really like it again), but it had it's moments. First of, already mentioned quote "I'm Buffy, the vampire slayer, and you are?" which is just awesome. Then there's Anne (the other one) moving to LA, and therefore later moving to the spinoff, which was also pretty cool considring she's such a minor character. And of course the Scoobies hunting down vampires, which just was hilarious.
Other than that, not too great an episode.
 
I actually really like this episode. The scene of Buffy sitting in her room wearing this old rag of a shirt, clutching a can of soup and just utterly lost. I always thought there was something so haunting about that. That we saw her so broken.

I like the continuity with Lily and the action is fast paced...love the chase through Hell.

The Scoobie interaction is fun too. Love the Xander/Cordy banter and Oz trying to thow the stake to kill the vamp...hilarious.

But the best part has to be Buffy reclaiming her identity and her life..'I'm Buffy the Vamoire Slayer and you are'?

I think this ep has a little bit of everything🙂
 
ok i liked anne it was a good episode and a really good way to open season three i thought after the finale of season 2.

another reason i love this episode is because of a clothing mistake i have noticed in it, when buffy is escaping from the hell dimension (climbing up the chain and the running after) she has 2 different pairs of shoes on through the scene. one pair is like a converse type shoe and then it changes to a sport trainer, and between the 2 at various moments.

we all know mistake are bound to happen at some point during filiming shows or movies, i just love this one on anne for some reason (as i mentioned in my thread yesterday)

by the way did any one else notice this mistake i'm curious lol?

I've been noticing that mistake for years now, every time I see her climb the chain I know the different shoes moment is about to happen. It happens again in Dead Mans Party as well when Buffy meets Pat outside her house she has incredibly high wedged sandals on. Then when she goes to get the company plates and grabs a stool shes wearing just really high heels.

Back on track though I love Anne I think its an awesome season opener after all the chaos of the end of season 2. To see Buffy working in an unknown territory and trying to just cope with herself and whats happened. I like it when the trucker dude slaps her butt and she turns round slightly as if shes going to do something and then doesn't. It really shows how much Buffy doesn't want to be the slayer and just try to be normal and keep a low profile.

The fight towards the end is just brilliant though like everyone else when she says "Hi Im Buffy the vampire slayer... and you are?" is just comic genius you know at that point Buffy knows she can't ignore who she is when an innocent person dies in front of her. I also love it when shes running passed all the slaves and gets up on to that platform kicking all the demon's butts and has the two weapons in her hands and she looks round all serious. It makes me jump in excitement that Buffy is back and she means business.

i noticed it years ago to i just watched the episode recently n it sparked me off on it agen lol,never noticed dead mans party though.fully agree on everything else u've sed lolz the end of anne was awesomes!
i liked the whole tea cosy thing... and the whole episdoe really but thats what i think of when i think of that episode. buffy wanting a tea cosy tho she dont know what one is
 
This is the one with the Hammer and Sickle shot, isn't it? If so, I love it. If not, I still love it.

Yes indeed. The shot that was the closer of the credits until the season 4 entry scene to kill Adam started to used, I think.
Anne is one of my favourites by far... I always enjoy when a character realises their worth and purpose, and the line that has been mentioned (by just about everyone) is a perfect example of that.
Also I love having Chantarelle/Lily/Anne around, she tends to be in episodes where harsh realities are realised - in 'Lie To Me' she's there when the Buffster realises that sometimes people (Billy 'Ford' Fordham) are going to die, and sometimes you're going to have to let them, even if they do have lame evil plans. Also realising you can't trust anyone, there's a big old lesson in that ep too.
And then in Anne when she shakes herself out of her eye deadening haze and remembers who she is and what she's destined to do - there's Lily, waiting to take on the persona that Buffy needs to leave behind to move forward, having realised that sometimes we can't be who we want to be, we can only be who we ARE. yay for random character continuity.

Also I just plain feel my heart melt when Buffy comes home and falls into Joyce's arms at the door. Perfect mother-daughter moment.
 
I've always loved Anne, I always like seeing the scoobies try to patrol without Buffy and this is just a pure classic fight scene! Love the line that everyone else does, and love the classic shot of Buffy that's in the opening credits of her with the chumbawumba or whatever it's called. Also, this episode gives me an excuse to say chumbawumba, even if that's highly not the real word.

I haven't actually seen this episode in a while (haven't seen much of Season 2 or 3 at all recently actually, I think I might watch Anne and Dead Man's Party today actually! Does anyone else see those two episodes as an almost two part-er?

And then I want to sing that chumbawumba song! Come on... As if you don't right now!

I never thought of those episodes being a two parter but they could now you've said that.
"Anne" is probably my favorite premiere of the series. Followed closely either by "The Freshman" or the seventh season premiere.
