Limits of A Slayer

I was wondering what are perhaps the limits of a slayer's powers. Like I'm wondering how strong can they get or is there even a limit to how strong and fast they can get. Like if Buffy was to train like all day would she eventually get as strong as she was during the enjoining spell? Can a slayer get so fast that she'll be able to learn to dodge bullets kind of like Agents in the Matrix or even Spiderman. Cause I do notice with each season that passes Buffy did get stronger and stronger and I'm wondering if you think maybe there's possibly a limit? I mean of course I'm sure when Buffy's like 80 she won't be picking up trucks and such but still. Also what if a slayer has a female child would it perhaps gain slayer like powers.

Just about any athlete gains in strength and speed as they age, up to a certain limit. Generally speaking, a martial arts fighter reaches the peak of their physical game around 25 or 30, and then tapers back off from there. Slayers should be no different, and the gradual increase of Buffy's powers over the years is to be expected. Since no Slayer has ever lived past the age of 25, it remains to be seen whether her power will continue to increase past that point. Another thing that the Slayer power package possesses leads to another consideration: Aging is nothing more than the breaking down of a person's organs, muscles, joints, and so forth due to the normal wear and accumulated injuries received in everyday life. With the Slayer's enhanced healing abilities, she may be far less subject to the normal aging than normal humans. She wouldn't be immortal, certainly, but, barring a violent death, Buffy, or any Slayer, could very well have an extended life span, perhaps in the neighborhood of hundreds of years.

How do you know no slayer has lived past the age of 25?

Because I'm pretty sure that is possibly a fallible statement

I think that statement was just a sarcastic comment. She probably wasn't serious on the age, she just knew that they don't live for too long.

I wonder though if Buffy is the oldest Slayer on record. I mean from beginning of her calling to the comic books, that's like 10 years or so. That's pretty long.

Buffy said so herself in several episodes, and I believe Giles mentioned it once or twice.

Gotta quote for Age 25, because I'm trying, and I can't think of one. I think there's one where she says she doesn't think she'll make it past age 25, or something like that, but it's not coming to me.

I wonder how old Nikki Wood was.

Yeah, Nikki Wood was probably a little bit older than 25. At least, I got that impression.

And I wanted to clarify my statement. I didn't want to know if Buffy was the actual oldest on record in terms of chronological age, but if she was the Slayer that had lived the longest up until then? A ten year stint being an active slayer is a while. Were there any others who went longer?

Well in tales of the slayer there was a slayer that lived up to 29 in Greece I believe her name was Thessonily or something like that and she was a slayer for 12 years until she died from a poisonous dart or something like that. but I don't know I still think a slayer should have a little bit more power of protection, cause I mean all you have to do is stab a slayer with an arrow and she's dead or poison her and she's dead or even shoot her. Cause I mean Warren was very close to killing Buffy with one shot even though she's found Gods and monsters, at least vampires are much harder to kill and like Spike says a slayer always has to reach for her weapon without that they are virtually powerless, cause snapping a vampires neck won't work but a vampire can snap a slayer's neck. But again I'm wondering if a slayer could end up kind of like what happened to Spiderman in terms of once Spiderman learned to fully accept the Spider aspect of him he grew to be even stronger and even faster. so I'm wondering if say perhaps a slayer learns to fully accept the demon aspect of them would they themselves become even stronger and faster.

I like the white avenger's notion of immortal (or enhanced life-span) Slayers. It sort of makes sense that the aging-process is slowed down or perhaps even stopped entirely by the supernatural force. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it turned out Buffy was just as immortal as Angel and Spike and neither one of them really had to Shanshu.

On what CharmedSlayer85 said, getting stronger by embracing the demon in you, maybe that would work, but I think only in the same way as the vemon-symbiote affected Spider-man. If you succumb to the demon force, it might not only make you stronger and faster, but might also make you mean and evil; sort of like Dana, perhaps?

that is a good theory and makes sense, but actually, a slayer gets more than just "average injuries". according to what you are saying, the everyday injuries people have contribute to the breaking down their organs etc. during aging. even though a slayer's healing is enhanced, she gets more injuries, and takes them harder. for instance, average people get paper cuts that heal in a few days, and a slayer might get hundreds of large gashes in her arms (at different times) that will heal in a few days. for buffy specifically, her whole body even had to be pretty much reconstitued in bargaining. all of this might add up to the same amount of breakdown as a normal human, or closer to that than to being immortal.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if it turned out Buffy was just as immortal as Angel and Spike and neither one of them really had to Shanshu.

unfortunately, the reason they should shansu is not only to no longer be immortal and be with buffy. another reason would be that they want to shed their demon side completely, so there is no risk of soul-losing and whatnot. thats kind of a biggie, for angel especially. they want to be human beings not just so their lives will end the same time as buffy's.

What makes Spike different than Angel though is there is no way for Spike to lose his soul except through powerful magicks, but he's not under any curse or anything so he could very well experience a moment of pure happiness and be fine. Angel's soul was his punishment while Spike's soul was his reward. Which at the end of the day makes Spike the better man

I never understood why that makes spike a better man than angel, as neither are actually men and in my eyes souled spike/angel and evil spike/angel are two different people so what spike did as evil spike i.e. get his soul doesn't actually mean anything to me, what he did after he got it on the other hand does

seriously not trying to be mean or anything, but im pretty sure there's a seperate topic about who is better, spike or angel, and this thread is just about limits of a slayer. i was just respoding to what allycat said briefly. we were talking about why each of them might want immortality, and whether buffy having an expanded life span, more like them, would cause them not to want it anymore, not about who was more worthy of it.

EDIT:
as it turns out, the one i found had been closed. there is this, if you are part of the debate: The Great Redemption Debate. if not, you guys could always start a new thread. again, just suggesting here. it might actually make a good new thread, and with the comic out, there could be new ideas and new evidence to use.
