Lines that sum it all up?

I was just wondering, what do you think were the lines that really summed up all that the shows stood for? Both for Buffy and for Angel seperatly and perhaps even for both at once?

For Buffy I think it was from Buffy herself to Dawn, in the Gift: "The hardest things in this world is to live in it." Because it really shows that the demons are just a superficial layer of problems, and Life is the real thing to worry about."

For Angel, I think it was from Angel himself to Kate, in Epiphany: "If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do." Cause it's really what Angel's about, keep fighting even if you know it doesnt matter or if you know you'll lose, just like the final scene sums up. Alternatively, maybe the conversation Anne and Gunn had in Not Fade Away, but that's not one line.

Anyway, I hope you'll share what you believe are the lines that sum it all up for you with me and PS: bring out the tissues 😉

I agree on both counts!!!!
one of the best lines from the show, one that i love and for me really sums up everything that both shows stood for, is angel's voice over from 'passions'

'if we could live without passion, maybe we'd know some kind of piece. but we would be hollow. empty rooms, shuttered and dank. we'd truly be dead.'

i love this quote, because at one time or another, every single character on both shows lost themselves completely to passion. this quote, to me, represents what the shows were about.

I know it's not really one line but all Whistler's voice overes in Becoming really sum up what the show is about, at least for me.

"There's moments in your life that make you, that set the
course of who you're gonna be. Sometimes they're little, subtle moments.
Sometimes... they're not."

"Bottom line is, even if you see 'em coming, you're not ready
for the big moments. No one asks for their life to change, not really. But it
does. So what are we, helpless? Puppets? No. The big moments are
gonna come. You can't help that. It's what you do afterwards that
counts. That's when you find out who you are."

Episode 4.1 - Deep Down
Angel: "We live as though the world were what it should be, to show it what it could be."

That's a good one!
Though not one single line, the Wishterl monologue is very good. Watcherwese, you're quote, I think is even better, *sniff*, really sums AtS up.

Allycat's quote I think makes the most sense for Angel.

And I can't really think of the best line for Buffy. I agree with everyone said so far. I think when Willow said to Buffy in Wrecked "But I mean... if you could be, you know, plain old Willow or super Willow, who would you be? ... I guess you don't actually have an option on the whole super thing. " it shows how everybody's power develops. And Buffy is stuck living something she didn't choose. It might not be the more famous quotes. Or one you would think of right away. But it's what I thought of.

I never would have thought of that, but it really does describe Buffy's inner turmoile.

Also some things the Mayor said in Graduation Day

"It's been a long road getting here. For you, for Sunnydale. There has been achievement, joy, good times, and there has been grief. There's been loss."

"It's what happens on the way, it the things that happen to you. At the end of the journey you're not the same."
