I am getting a sense of irony from this thread. What is the usual reason people like BtVS and Ats? The interrelationships between the characters
Or one girl alone in the world. Who lives with the burden of an unsought disconnect from friends and family, but still does her best and kicks arse.
With the rise of the internet and technology, I see loneliness becoming
less of a problem in the future. There is always someone to chat to online. Always something to do if you want to. Distraction is made easy online. Bots teach behavioral therapies and offer sex and mental health support. We won't be far off robot cleaners and carers for the elderly. Streaming services make it effortless to fully immerse yourself in another world. Writers are using psychological tricks to get people sucked in to the characters reflecting their viewers instead of simply being stories to watch from a-far. Interactive TV has started. Candy crush amuses 70 year olds for hours on end, even if their hubby is sitting right next to them.
Away from tech, designer pets are more human than ever. Many find companionship in clubs and organised events, which are also at an all time high. Most of the western world have a very high disposable income and can basically do whatever they like in retirement. Travel is heavily encouraged (If I was a rich one I would start a death cruise business, screw the loopholes of voluntary euthanasia, just go on a final cruise and jump off when you're done with life
😉 )
With the computer literate generation, spare money, high level of education and millions going into community building projects, I believe loneliness won't be the most pressing issue of our future.
