Hi, I've been a Buffy fan for a long time - it was my first proper fandom and I met a lot of cool people and had some fun adventures due to it. Then my fandom group faded out into real life responsibilities and divergent fandom interests. I checked out pretty soon after season 7 and carried on with other shiny fandoms. Fast forward to last summer when I decided to rewatch BtVS again and realized how much I missed and still loved it. I've been testing the fandom waters slowly - because a lot of the fandom staples that were around when I was starting out -- are simply gone or greatly reduced (I was there, Gandalf) and the remaining Buffy fen I knew have permanently moved on from Buffy, so I don't really have a lot of people to interact with Buffy about. Writing tag essays on tumblr isn't quite the same, you know?

I never posted on the Bronze back in its heyday so I'm going to try to be more social here.

I'm Saff and I'm team Buffy. Nice to meet you!

Welcome, Saff! It is so great to see more people who are excited about the BOOM! reboot. Could you educate us babybats on the staples of the original fandom, please? I'd be very interested to hear about it.

Welcome to the boards! We have a lot of people who have been away for a while and returned because Buffy is still one of the greatest shows ever made. Looking forward to seeing your posts!

Well, the 90s are back in full effect, and nostalgia aside, BtVS hasn't aged too badly over all. It's good to be back in fandom.
Hi Saff!!! Happy to see you found your way here. Welcome to the boards!

Hi! Love the handle and the avatar. Are you excited about the newest chapter of the MCU verse?
Hello, good to hear that you found your way back. Are you also a fan of Angel, per chance?

Hello! I watched most of season 1 and sporadic episodes throughout, but my heart has always been with Sunnydale.
Welcome. I’ve been a fan of BtVS since 2009, though I watched a few episodes here and there before that. Hadn’t watched Buffy in years either until I started rewatching it around the same time as you and it holds up well, even though it has flaws. I forgot how clever the dialogue is and how great the actors are.

The Buffyverse was the second franchise I found myself loving (the first was TMNT). Buffy and Angel are still two of my top 3 shows along with The Fugitive 1960s series.

I only joined Buffy Boards recently, but I was a lurker for years.

Who are your favourite Buffy characters?

Hey there! Welcome to the Boards 🙂

I used to lurk around the Bronze as well (I never actually posted either). Started out on the BBC Buffy boards a lifetime ago......

Think you are going to like it here 🙂

It's been really nice, and I'm enjoying how kind everyone has been so far.

I'm very excited about it, as you may have seen from my posts 😀.

I was a babybat (hee) when I joined the Buffy fandom, I wasn't there for the alt.groups, but I did sub to a bunch of yahoo! groups and found myself a nice group and we'd chat about fic and swap links and talk about the episodes and one summer, members of that group and I drove up to LA to check out filming sites for Buffy. UCLA's campus is so pretty at dusk, y'all. We all migrated to LJ as a matter of course (RIP og BtvS LJ) and I helped out with graphics for some fic writers of the time, I think the only surviving example of that is at bitchenvy.com. The bulk of my fandom was centered around LJ - it really was the most efficient way to drop off fic/fan mixes and icon swaps really, plus that privacy cut and the threaded comments. AO3 is great for what it is, but LJ really fostered the community way back then. Also, the summers in between seasons were the best/worst - my B/A friends were understandably destroyed and there was so much meta flying around and fic fix its, which became more prolific the longer Buffy went on.

I think the biggest loss from that time in fandom is the slow disappearance of personally archived fic - not just because the free sites evaporated or stopped being free (geocities/tripod/angelfire) but just because time. It was really personally curated and specific - and again, AO3 is great but it's overwhelming.

For real, for a show from the 90s, Buffy has held up astonishingly well. There definitely are flaws, but the situations and dialogue are pretty timeless. I don't think I've ever loved another tv show like I did Buffy. My faves are Buffy, Giles, Tara, Anya - though I like/appreciate pretty much everyone in the main casts. Thanks for welcoming me!
