It just occurred to me that after going over the entire series, Buffy was never the longest active Slayer, as many fans claim. Not really.

Yeah,I think Faith was even though she was in jail, she was never dead

Depends on how you look at it, even after dead Buffy kept slaying, does that mean she's inactive, in my opinion not!

yeah it all depends on how you look at it, Buffy has been the longest active Slayer(slayed for 8 years+) but if you mean Longest Slayer alive that can still activate another slayer with her death I dont think it would be Faith because its either her, Nikki or The First slayer.

Faith was safe from dieing since she was in jail and well Buffy saved her when she came to SunnyDale and Faith kept on running before she came to SunnyDale. And the fact that Faith has only gone up agianst the minor evils and she was put in a coma(near death) by the hands of Buffy for a year.

Good point, but we dont know how long Nikki or The first Slayer were alive for

Um I think there was an episode of Buffy or a book that said there was a slayer active for 14 years (the longest ever) but she was killed when 2 'Real demons' clashes in a certain part of asia destroying the town and nearby villages and she was trying to save the people.

(Probobly a book...I rented...if I figure out which one it was I;ll tell you. I know Giles said it though. and Oz was there too.)

Zander - was it 'Into the Wild', the Oz based book? I never finished it, so it's a possibility...

I have a question. If buffy wasn't the slayer after she died, how could she "King Arthur" the scythe out of the stone?

Buffy was the longest active slayer in the known Joss Whedon Buffyverse.

Books or fanfic don't count.

The "chosen one" slayer line was just a magic trick created by the Shadowmen, and in my opinion doesn't matter much.

The women created the Scythe for the Slayer so any Slayer who found it could get it out of the stone.

So there's more than one slayer then. OK, next question.

Which of the slayer's is The slayer? Is it the slayer who meets the rules the Shadowmen created, and enforced on the slayer line, then endorsed by the Watchers, or is it the slayer, Giles, Faith, Buffy, and seemingly Joss tell us is The slayer? The one who guards the Hellmouth.

I dunno who..hmmmmm....thats a very good point,i never thought of that...Im gonna go through my Buffy books and mags to see if theres anything helpful

My question regarded on who was the longest active Slayer shown on the series' seven-year run. That means from Buffy to the Potentials, who became Slayers in "Chosen".

I chose Faith. Why? Because she was The Slayer for five years - from 1998 to 2003, when Buffy and Willow activated the Potentials.

I have no idea how long Nikki Wood or the Chinese girl that Spike had killed, were Slayers.

Both Buffy and Kendra were "The Slayer" for one year, each - Buffy (1996-1997) and Kendra (1997-1998).

From 1998 to 2003, I believe that Buffy was in reality, the last Guardian of the Hellmouth in Sunnydale. Did anyone notice that the Shadowmen in "Get It Done" had regarded her as Guardian of the Hellmouth, instead of the Slayer? I guess they would know what her true position was.

I think the main thing that proves that Buffy isn't the 'active' slayer is coz when she died this time no other slayer was called. If Willow hadn't done the spell for the other potentials and if Faith had died another slayer would have been called. So, Faith is technically the slayer, so she's been activated the longest. Except for the one Zander was on about.

Oh really Nerd4Hire??? there have been at least 2 episodes altogether that Joss Whedon has used from books. Noth the other way around. Yes they were writin by Buffy/Angel writers but they were still books first. Don't believe me? go check out Buffy Cult (BBC). Somewhere in the last month or 2 they mentioned something about it so it might not be there anymore.

Never finished it eh? Well like I said I have no idea. I don't even remember the book cover or name. (read it like 1-2 years ago). But I found a Star Trek book I forgot about so just give me time and I'm sure I'll find the book.

Actually Zander, I have heard the writers of the books do from time to time get notes from Joss letting them in on some of the inside poop.

You're right. Comparing them to fanfic is harsh, and unjust 😀

On the other hand if you're suggesting the book writers have a greater insight into the buffyverse than Joss does, or even as much, you're also right when you suggest I don't believe you.

I admit I would be surprised to learn Joss used previously published material to convert into scripts. At this point I find it difficult to believe. I'm sure you're telling me the truth. You did read something. Until you point me to it so I can read it though, I have no idea what exactly it was.

It would be great if you could show me. You'd have a better idea of where to look than I would. I'm really curious about this. Can you post a link?

Buffy wasn't an active Slayer after she died. Faith is the active Slayer cuz if Faith died (pretend there are no Slayers all over the world for a sec), a Potential is activated, but if Buffy dies, nothing happens and that's why no Slayer was called after her second death.

I know this doesn't help my case any but I can't find it. I searched through the records of BBC as far back as I could and can't find it. But I'm sure they have a page like our 'cemetery' where I can try and find it. but for now I have no proof. I'll keep looking though.

Thanks Zander. I'd really like to see it.

In the meantime I can tell you, I was looking for the info also, and I came across an interesting interview here:

Joss and the Buffy Books

where he says as follows

I don't want some crappy reactionary show under the Buffy name. If my name's going to be on it, it should be mine. Now, the books I have nothing to do with, and I've never read them. They could be, "Buffy realized that abortion was wrong!" and I would have no idea. So, after my big, heartfelt, teary speech, I realize that I was once again lying. But I sort of drew the line. I was like, "I can't possibly read these books!" But my name just goes on them as the person who created Buffy.
