Longest Active Slayer on BtVS/AtS

Buffy was the slayer for 2 years before she drowned and revived by Xander. Like I said before it all depends on how you look on the active thing. Faith has only been alive so long was because first she fought vamps, met Kirkistos(spelling) almost got killed by him, ran away and kept runing away from him, went to Buffy, Buffy helped her kill him, Faith fought usual vampires, went all evil and helped the Mayor, was in a coma for a few months, woke up went after Buffy, lost in the end, went after Angel, lost and went all good agian. Turned herself into the police and was in Jail for like 3 1/2 years thus not having to worry about being killed. Got out faced the beast and Angelus whom almost killed her but The Beast was killed by Angelus and Faith survived Angelus bite. Went over to Buffy, fought some vampires, talked to the first and then its all a mystery.

So to me she isnt the longest active Slayer. I view the longest active as Buffy, sure she has died twice and can no longer call another Slayer but I dont look at the activeness, I look at how long they are surviving, Buffy is still alive faced the meanest big bads in the buisness and survived in the end.

]Buffy was the slayer for 2 years before she drowned and revived by Xander.]

One year. She became the Slayer in 1996, at the age of 15. She was killed by the Master in 1997, at 16 years old.

And since a new Slayer was activated after her brief death, I no longer considered her to be the Slayer. In fact, not even the Shadowmen considered her to be the Slayer, when she met them in "Get It Done".

Let's deal with that Shadowmen thing.

First of all who were they, and does it really matter what they think, as far as determining who THE Slayer actually was.

They were Shamans. Shamans are notoriously untrustworthy. Further proof of their lack of credibility comes from the fact they evolved into the Watchers. Do you trust Quentin Travers?

What exactly did they say?

BROWN HAT SHADOW MAN
SUBTITLE: We are at the beginning. The source of YOUR strength. The well of THE slayer's power.

Big talk if you ask me. I don't necessarily believe everything they say when they talk about how important they are. Nevertheless, they do seem to believe Buffy is THE Slayer.

Of Buffy they say

BROWN HAT SHADOW MAN
SUBTITLE: You are the hellmouth's last guardian

So what? Why would that mean Buffy isn't THE Slayer? Who's to say the slayer in Joss's mind isn't the one who guards the Hellmouth. All the other Character's in Buffy seem to think Buffy is THE slayer.

Even Buffy herself believes that's the case.

BUFFY
Hello? I'm Buffy. I'm the slayer.

The men are speaking some unrecognizeable language.

RED HAT SHADOW MAN
SUBTITLE: We know who you are.

True the Slayer line that passed down from First Slayer, all the way to Faith, no longer passes though Buffy according to the rules described in Season 1. That's only by the rules the Shadowmen enforced on the slayer line. So what? They're just magicians.

Buffy is definitely A Slayer as proven earlier on this thread. If every character in the series with the possible exception of the Watchers (who I don't trust) are going to call her THE Slayer, I'm going to also.

Well they meant that Buffy would be the last Slayer to guard SunnyDales Hellmouth and they were right.

THe Buffys Magazine(yearbook special) says that Nikki may be the longest slayer to ever live so far, but they arent for sure.

The Shadowmen ofcourse are important because they created the Slayer, they are like the orignal Watchers.

I agree with everything else you said, To the old Watchers Council, the Slayer was just a weapon. They didnt care about her, they want Slayers who will obey them and are on side they want them to be on. They tried to kill Faith and didnt care about her even though it would call for another slayer. They are like a guns bullets, you shoot them out and one comes after another until their are no more left to come after them but you can always reload.

Ok. Here's a cute little algebra problem for you.

A = The Shadowmen say Buffy is the last Guardian of the Hellmouth.

B = Buffy is the Guardian of the Sunnydale Hellmouth.

C = The Hellmouth in Sunnydale is destroyed.

D = Giles says there is another Hellmouth in Cleveland.

E = There will be guardians of the Cleveland Hellmouth.

Something doesn't add up here. I have to conclude the Shadowmen are liars, so can I believe them when they say they created the slayer? Who was that girl before the Shadowmen forced demon power on her? Why did they choose her? She must have had some special strength.

Well they didnt say which Hellmouth but we can pretty much see that they probably meant SunnyDale, and I think that they may explain in the comic book why they chose who they chose as the first slayer. We see that they tried to give Buffy extra power, more demony streangth so she would be better prepaired for the upcoming battle, and they even create the first slayer in the comic book and if they didnt then Joss probably wouldve said something about it.

That's interesting Primal Slayer. I didn't know that.

Why do they choose who they choose as the First Slayer? How exactly do they create her? Do the Shadowmen come off as good guys in the comic, or do they have questionable motives? Did Joss write that episode? Is this Fray, or the Buffy comic? What episode?

In fact...hey, can you tell me the whole story. Dying to know.

Joss Whedon's Fray

The origin of The First Slayer was unveiled in issue 3 of this comic. Melaka Fray (who will be the slayer in 200 years) wants to know about her heritage, and this is what she learns:

"The demons, most of them, found more hospitable dimen-... places, and left the earth to the mortals. For the most part. Some remained, hidden away. Some bred within the human community, their power weakened throughout generations. Some assimilated. And some... infected. It is not known when they first appeared, but the vampires were a plague. The elders of several villages met, calling for action. They invoked the strongest and most dangerous magicks they could summon, to create a power. A power that could fight the vampires. A power that lived... in the body of a girl."

They probably chose her because she didnt have any real family and she was alone.

How about maybe the second slayer or the third or ??? They didn't keep notes of the slayers that long, so there might have been slayers active much longer then Buffy has before the started making records!

Wanna see something cool. It's a site that offers scans of the the Fray comics--episodes 1 through 8.

Here's a link to Fray # 3:

Fray 3 Scans

Tip: These things rarely last on the internet very long. They can disappear as quickly as they appear.

OK, so I've been researching the whole Fray thing and here are the conclusions I've come to. Tell me how they differ to yours.

First of all, you have to take anything you hear in Fray seriously. Joss wrote it, and he da man.

Secondly maybe what I just said isn't entirely true.

Here's a link.

Joss at Comic Convention

It concerns some comments Joss made at a comic convention.

Here's a quote:

Buffy's final episodes both used and diverged from continuity elements that Whedon had previously established in his Fray comics. Whedon noted that "There are now things in Fray, mythologically, that don't match up, which I'm going to have to explore when I do the next series of Fray comics.

Nevertheless based on everything we know so far I think we're forced to conclude the Shadowmen did create the actual slayer from a normal girl. I think we have to believe that until we're told different, but don't be surprised if sometime in the future we are told different.

yay I win on the Shadowmen part so yay me 🙂 and I do agree with everything you said. But I dont think it will change since Joss isnt really one to change things around like that.

Yeah, ya beat me 😡 for now nyahahaha.

Hey do you read that comic book Fray. I've been downloading scans, and I've almost read the whole thing. I am impressed.

I am now an official Fray fanatic. If I was a girl I would tatoo the Fray tatoo on my shoulder, and petition for a Fray movie.

When little Loo died, I almost cried.

nerd4hire, I've been trying to find the Fray comics on ebay for cheap prices, but until I get them... where are you downloading the scans from. Are they from one of the sites you already mentioned?

Thanks nerd, I'll be saving them right away. I don't think that those are the complete comics. 'Cause I have a copy of Fray #6, and it has a lot more pages to the story than are scanned in on that website.

No they aren't complete.

I saw someone on Yahoo groups who seemed to have the complete set. They've disappeared.

If you Google - Fray scans - you'll find the link I'm talking about. I'm thinking if you joined that group, and messaged that person you might be able to beg the pages you're missing.

BTW would you know anyone on these boards who would make me a Fray banner?

Thanks for the tip. But I think I finally found something buyable on ebay.🙂

For a Fray banner - I'd recommend " " Vamp_Girl" " . But anybody on the banner makers list would suffice. Whoever you end up asking, I can't wait to see it.
