...recommendations.

I'm starting to fall in love with comics. I follow Buffy, Angel, Runaways and Fallen Angel but now I'm looking for something new.

I'm not into action comics with big fights and blood and magic and all that, but that doesn't mean that I don't want a supernatural element to my comics, but there's shouldn't be fighting and/or spellcasting on every page.

The heroes/heroins should be human-ish, I'm not looking for someone indestructable.

Also, if there's boobs showing on every page and the heroin dresses like a playboy girl, no thank you.

Anyone who has any recommendations? Don't worry, I won't scold you in case a lady in the comic you recommend dare to show her ankle lol

I'm looking for a bit of everything, there's no need for a good vs evil theme. Seeing God bake cookies could probably be fun too.
 
I don't generally do comics BUT my friend made me read The Green Arrow written by Kevin Smith.

Its brilliant. Its Batman with a sense of humour.

It also has most every DC character pop up, including 'Bats'.
 
You might want to try out "Young Avengers" by Marvel. It's similar in tone to Runaways, not quite as good, but there are some great characters in it. It does come with a lot of Marvel back story, but the graphic novels, do some nice recaps. And if their is a crossover, it is normally with Runaways.
 
what about spiderman, i dont really like comics that much but i was digging through my bookshelf and found a few comics that i bought years ago.

Its when spiderman was hated and he had aliases like Dusk, Hornet, Ricochet etc. it was pretty cool.

Theres also 1 issue i have where he doesnt have his costume so he puts a paper bag on his head and saves the day....
 
Gosh, there's a lot of good stuff out there that's not Superhero-themed or violent-ish. I took a Graphic Novel class a few years back, and we read some great stuff. I particularily liked Charles Burns' style (Black Hole was brillant) and the textbook we used was The Anthology of Graphic Fiction. Great book. This has a great selection of stuff so you can see which artists you like best.

"Historical" graphic novels are pretty cool, too...like "Maus" and "Persepolis", to name a couple we read in class.

Read the Bruce Wayne: Murderer? and Bruce Wayne: Fugitive series from a few years back. It starts with Batman: The 10 Cent Adventure but I think you can get the whole story in a trade paperback. It's a fantastic storyline.
 
Sandman is probably the best comic ever written but you might also like to explore other stuff writen by Neil Gaiman, along with virtually everything written by Alan Moore (Watchmen, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Swamp Thing etc.) and Frank Miller (Daredevil, Batman etc.)...Hey, it's old school but the only modern comics I buy are the Buffy and Angel ones.

Given the fact that the upcoming movie may be about to ruin everything I hold dear...and I sincerely hope not...Watchmen is an essential comics read for everyone IMO
 
The Umbrella Academy by Gerade Way (published by Dark horse) is well worth reading.
 
I've never heard of Fallen Angel.

I would recommend the comic series "Preacher", which is available in 9 collected trade paperback issues. It's very "M"-rated but good.

And it has boobs, but I highly recommend "Witchblade". Start with Volume 1, which is really issue 80-something. It's at this point the comics got a new creative team and it's REALLY good so far, I have the first five volumes. You can start from the beginning with "Witchblade: Origins Volume 1" but it doesn't start out nearly as strong as it becomes later and at the beginning it was highly sexualized with huge boobs and half-naked women everywhere.
