LOST Season Five **Spoilers**

I liked the most recent episode. Then again, I'm a Lost-nerd and I pretty much enjoy most of them. There are so many characters to service on the show though that characters end up getting neglected for awhile. It really was about time for a Sayid-centric episode. It was also kind of nice that this one was an old-fashioned flashback episode.

So Sayid shoots little Ben at the end of this episode. Presumably, he does this in an effort to save himself. As in the future, he won't end up working for Ben and killing those people who were working for Widmore. However, Faraday has already told us that the past cannot be changed. Therefore, Ben is going to survive. Sayid's plan may well-backfire. Presumably, the gunshot should have killed Ben. But if the island heals little Ben, Ben will be seen as special by the Others (just as they eventually view John as special), thereby paving the way for Ben to ascend to his role as leader of the Others and ensuring that the very events Sayid sought to prevent will come to pass. Very cool.

Unfortunately, for Sayid he didn't know the rule, whatever happened, happened(I wonder if this can be altered?Look at the Christian/Sun/Lapidus scene). Ben needed Sayid to want to shoot him as a little boy. He had been manipulating Sayid to get him in that frame of mind. He needed Sayid to hate him enough to shoot him as a kid. Ben's talking about man watching Hurley not only brought Sayid back to California, but it also reinforced the killing mentality that Ben spent three years driving into Sayid. Ben played on Sayid's loyalty to his friends, saying enough before walking away to know that Sayid would come back to help protect Hurley. I curious as to whether the man watching Hurley was really Widmore's man or Ben's. I'd even wager as to if the other men were really all that important that Ben had Sayid kill. If there were I bet it messed with Widmore's mind a good bit. Ben made sure to constantly reminding him and tell him that he was a killer.

It doesn't really matter we know Harry Potter is going to survive.

Less people seem to be discussing but I don't care. Still enjoying it big time. If I didn't already love Evangeline, I would after watching this. This episode took Kate back from being the boring love triangle girl into a full-fledged character with a purpose that we care about. This does away with IDoDoodle's theory that Ben had to provoke Sayid to kill him as a boy (because Ben won't remember what happened) but it filled in other plot points between the O6 leaving the island and returning and hinted that we may be seeing Claire again before the season ends (if not then, we will in season six for sure). Miles and Hurley discussing time travel was great. Jack's heartless response to young Ben's near-death experience was interesting as well. It does kind of make you dislike him, but if you think about it, Jack isn't entirely wrong here. Sure Ben is just a child, but they all know the consequences of that boy growing up. He ends up gassing all the Dharma people, including his father, killing John Locke (sort of twice!), kidnapping them, holding them against their will, manipulating them back to the island, etc.

It sure did, so it seems. It seemed a little too neat of a way to get around that him not remembering Sayid The scene Alpert taking little Ben into the temple was creepy since he was taking away his "innocence." I hope the whole quadrangle thing goes away. This was one of the best Kate centric episodes in a long time. I also like the Back to the Future references. I like the fact that Jack said "no."

A great episode. And what do you know,I was just complaining last week, how dull Kate had become, with the whole relationship stuff. Then we get this. 🙂
Loved Kate. Such a refreshing change. And proof positive, that her character needs a break from the Sawyer/Jack drama. Willing to save Ben, consoling Ben's dad. Thinking for herself, making her own decisions. And the moment she said goodbye to Aaron, was the best I have ever seen Evangeline Lilly. She owned this episode. More of this Kate please. 🙂

(Little) Rumors about upcoming episodes (titles and who they are supposed to focus on):

Dead is Dead - A Ben-centric episode
Some Like it Hoth - A Miles-centric episode
The Variable - A Faraday-centric episode
Follow the Leader - A Richard-centric episode
The Incident (Parts I & II) - A Jacob-centric episode

These are the actual titles of coming episodes, but the latter comments about who the episode focuses on came from another board and I can't promise accuracy.

Wow this thread hasn't been posted in in ages!

Anywayy the last episode was pretty good but I can't believe Dan died 🙁 I really liked him.
I hope Follow The Leader is a Richard centric episode, he seems like an interesting character!

Yeah, I never lost interest but it didn't seem like too many others were really still into this season (here at least) so I kind of stopped posting.

I loved and hated the last episode. The way they killed Dan was awesome, but I don't know why they had to kill one of the most interesting characters while there's still so much that could be done with him. I understood killing Charlotte, she didn't really add much to the show in the first place. As much as I wish Dan's death would be as temporary as Locke's was, I don't think that'll happen this time. It would cheapen the end of this episode, which was pretty badass. Dan was essentially killed twice by his mother- once accidentally, and then again when she talked him into going to the island knowing how it would end for him.

His theories about them changing the past make it seem like he finally completely snapped though. Everything we've been told and seen suggests the past can't be changed, and I have a feeling Dan has set events in motion that will lead to the incident, not prevent it (ha, when an upcoming episode is titled The Incident, you know it won't be avoided). As much as I've enjoyed recent episodes, I want to see the group get out of the 1970s now. I think the look on Jack's face when he sees Locke alive and well will be priceless.

Yeah this was a good episode, but I was expecting something bigger for episode 100. Maybe some former islander's appearing. Still not sure if Dan is dead. I don't think it showed him dying, it just cut to his mothers face. So I won't believe it, till I see it. 🙂
Since it wasn't commented on, I loved the previous episode. Miles is one of my favorite characters, Ken Leung is a great actor, hope he sticks around till the end.

Well, on that note, I think Miles will play an important role in the last few episodes of the season. Sawyer, Juliet, and crew are in pretty deep water with the Dharma folk right now, and I'm guessing Faraday giving Dr. Chang his notes and mentioning that Miles is his son is going to be their saving grace.

Am I the only one finding this season really boring?

I didn't like the fact Daniel had to be killed by his own mother, I thought in a way they built it up and knocked it down too quickly especially with him being gone for so long then coming back only to die. I wasn't impressed with it at all, but the last few episodes to come seem like there going to pick up a bit more. I can't wait to see a Jacob centric episode its about time we see something more of this mysterious person or even thing... what ever he is.

The season finale is nearly here, and I'm looking forward to it.
The last episode "Follow the Leader" was enjoyable, and I thought it set up things nicely. The only negative I had was Kate appearing in the sub at the end. Of course, just as Juliette and Sawyer had their nice happy future talk. I don't know why, but every time Kate appears on screen, I get agitated 🙂 I kinda want Juliette to slap her. 😀
I like how motivated Jack is to undo everything that has happened. Locke taking the fight to Jacob, should be all kinds of fun. And, I really liked seeing Miles dad choosing to help evacuate the island. From the very early episodes of Lost, and the Dharma tapes, I had this guy pegged as the big bad. It's nice to see him, trying to do the good thing.
Will we actually see Jacob next week? I hope so.
And if he / she is a character, we have already seen. Any guesses?
Since Claire seems to be with him, I'm going to say Aaron.

Haha, well if Locke is going to kill him, it'd be awesome if it were his jerkass Dad but then again, that would make no sense as he was alive at the time they arrived on the island. I'd enjoy seeing Locke kill him though, since he couldn't be the one to do it before.

And I'm not finding this season boring at all. This continues to be the show show I'm most interested in seeing each week. And I'm pretty sure the finale will be awesome enough to make my face melt.

That would be cool, if it was his dad. It doesn't have to make sense. It's Lost. 🙂 I think its Aaron because in the time jump episodes, his birth was re-shown. Claire seems to be hanging with her Daddy, Christian, so i think it might be a family thing. And Claire's warning to Kate, not to bring Aaron to the island, might mean he is destined to become Jacob. Someone else could have brought him though. I'm probably wrong, but it should be fun to see. I just hope we get the reveal, and it's not to be continued next season.
Also, I'm loving this season, and don't find it boring. It's my must-see show. Don't know what i'll watch when it finishes.

Atticus, you'd better hope Juliett doesn't slap Kate cause that is one fight Kate definately would win!

I'm starting to really worry that the way the show will end, like as in the very last episode, is that somehow they manage to actually change the past/future/whatever and the plane never crashes and they land and then all stand around eachother at luggage claim not a one of them having the slightest idea who the other is. That would really not fly well with me....

I wouldn't worry too much about that, Airam. I really think this changing the future thing is just a psych out. They aren't going to give away the big secret a year before they finish. I think, if anything, Jack's attempts to change what will happen will ultimately cause things to play exactly as they had before. That incident that we've been hearing about for so long? I'm guessing Jack and Sayid's little bomb scheme will actually turn out to be the cause of it.

Yeah I'm sure you're right. We've also got this... I'll put this in spoilers although I'm sure its been talked and teased about all season and its not even a spoiler as much as speculation, but still
so this teaser thats been going around about there being one major character death in the finale, someone thats been there from the beginning and that will rip our hearts out a-la Charlie's death. Who do you guys think it will be? I don't know how, but I have a feeling it will be Hurley... and if not him then Sayid, otherwise I don't see anyone else that they could possibly loose, and Sayid even seems like too big of a stretch.

My guess would be Sayid. His backstory has been well-covered. He has little to live for having lost the love of his life, and seems lost (pun not intended) and purposeless on the island more than anyone else right now. Hurley I think there are still things for us to learn about. We haven't gotten a flashback that explains how he ended up getting on the plane with that guitar case. That and Hurley still seems important to the island. He saw all those dead people (or whatever they actually were), and last year he was able to find Jacob's cabin which even Locke needs to be led to. I don't know who else would even be a possibility. Sun maybe? She and Jin are both fairly small characters compared to the rest of the original cast members, and she's been pretty unlikeable lately. So has Jack, but there's no way they're killing him.

Man you made a good case, now you've turned me around to thinking its gonna be Sayid over Hurley... Hurley is the one with the connection to the numbers too, is there anything more to be discovered about the numbers? Plus if Hurley lives it means we might get another Charlie hallucination and I'd kill for that, lol. But I don't think it could be Sun or Jin, I don't think they'd break them up, they haven't even reunited yet... unless they finally reunite and then BAM they kill one of them, oh no! That would kill ME!

* Spoiler *
I think it might be Juliette. I know she hasn't been in it from the start. It just seems that with the conflict between her and Kate, that Sawyer will choose her, or not. And then the worst will happen. Setting up Sawyer's story arc for next year.
Sine they have been together, I've been expecting it. Their relationship was quite rushed, and perhaps that was to get the emotional pay-off when Sawyer loses her. With the interrogation scene in the last episode, I'm expecting it to be the guy who hit her. Or something that Jack causes, leading to more conflict next year. That's my guess.
