LOTR: Return of the King

The Silmarillion is Tolkien's crowning achievement.
It is the account of the eldar days, of the elves struggle against Morgoth, the great enemy of whom Sauron was merely a servant. It tells the story of thousands of years of history leading up to the Lord Of The Rings. In short, you MUST read it.
 
Maybe it was my imagination that Frodo got eaten by Godzilla then. lol.

I was trying to remember it last night, but i can't. I remember the end, but i barely remember the beginning and the spider thing. I must have just been staring @ the screen for 3 hours.
 
I've read The Silmarillion, and it's awesome! As someone who is a student of mythology, this book was great...it reads like a mythology text. Tales of heroes, gods and demons...like Greek myth. I found it fascinating how Tolkien has a Greeklike pantheon of gods in Arda, while "the One" sits apart from the world, watching and omniscient. It's a pleasing meld of pantheism with monotheism! And the heroes! So tragic and so compelling!
 
I'm reading it too. Its great as it really gives you perspective of how middle-earth came to be and why this happens and whats that etc.
Its great to understand who the elves continuallyy talk about aswell, like Elbereth.
I really enjoyed the book. Very recommendable :: teeth :
 
I'm partial to the very end (the actual very end, after watching more than half of the movie theatre start to stand up at several points in the last twenty minutes because PJ kept fading to black and then fading back in...bad PJ! Bad!). Sam walks back to his hobbit hole, picks up his little girl and says, "Well, I'm home." Such a great little moment; perfect ending to the trilogy!

It is a hard book to read though, I remember the first time I read it I found it very hard, then suddenly something clicked and I loved every page. My fav parts are Fingolfin's duel with Morgoth and the whole story of Turin Turambar, which gives me an idea for a new sig...

Yeah, that story really appealed to me too! I enjoy a good tragedy every now and again, and that one is awesome. I also like how Tolkien shows the futility of avoiding "gods' wrath" when you've done evil, like in the story of Feanor's sons...
 
indeed, I thought the curse that was spoken over the elves when they left to seek the silmarils was actually kinda cool in a bad way lol.
Also, in my opinion, the tale or Beren and Luthinen kicks the crap outa Romeo and Juliet
 
I cried almost through the whole film! When Pippin sang his song, when they frodo, Gandalf and Elrond left at the end, When Arwen and Aragorn got back together! It all just made me cry... it was really good!
 
I know me too lol 😀 i was just sat there crying. like when Gandalf took Pipin to Gondor and Merry was saying goodbye to him *snif* so sad 😀

The ending was the sad bit when Frodo and Gandalf were leaving Sam, Pippin and Merry and going to the Grey Havens...I felt soo sorry for Sam who was the crying the most! I was happy that Arwen and Aragorn got back together.. ::dance:: ...The film was best one I have seen in a while! 😎
 
Omg, I can't wait for the DVD...I'm gonna die!!! I'll have to be loaded with many tissue boxes though lol. Did anyone ever notice that Legolas is portrayed in the film as "Sir Points Out the Obvious Alot?" hehehe...that is an insult to elves! no matter, he is reaaaally hot! ::love:: haha

I will admit, I cried during this movie, even though I'm not one to cry at movies...it was really one of the best movies I've seen in a long time...and definitly the best of the three...
 
I'm still deciding whether I liked it better than FotR. I'm a huge fan of the first, mostly because I love the Shire.
 
yeah i cried alot too...when frodo left at the end and all the hobbits were crying and when aragorn said "you bow to noone" and everyone bowed to the hobbits..and also

i agree, that was soo sad also. Definetly the best movie in a long time! I can't wait until the dvd!
 
It doesnt matter when people stop going to see it because its coming out in August either way 🙂
