i have been discussing this with my friends for ages now, without any consese...so did you like the lord oif the rings movie? and had you read the books? well my poit is:
- did you enjoy more the films than the books?
- did you enjoyed the books and thoughted the movies were a good adaptacion of it?
- or you liked the books but got decepcionated with the movies?
the people who didn't read the books are free to comment to give their oppinion too.
 
Well I barerly read Lotr..Polish translation was just horrible and I'm still waiting to get good English books...I enjoyed the movies more than books,but it'll prolly all change when I get original Lotr and not some nasty translation
 
I have read the books and seen the films. I think that the books are better than the films with the exception of the first book. That took a while to get started and the film got almost straight into it. I thought that the films were a great adaptation of the books and Peter Jackson did an excellent job!! *thumbs up*
 
I think Peter Jackson has done a very good job, of course, there are things missing, and things that shouldn't be there, but it's always gonna be like that. The movies are as perfect as movies based on books can be...If that makes any sense! lol!
I'm not sure if I like the books or the movies more, I've only read the Norwegian translation, which is good. But the books are long and complicated, the movies aren't that complicated.
But I know for sure I haven't been disappointed with anything in the movies.
 
i saw the first movie and loved it..so it was the movie that motiveted me to read the books, that i'm a huge fan..i loved the second film, and for me, that one is the best till now adaptated...i was disapoited altough with the third..i expected more..and comparing the final, when i read it in the books i love it, while in the theaters i was very bored in that final minuts.. final thoughs, the movies were very good, problably as good as it can be by a book adaptation, but the books are excelent, and that won't ever change.

Anyway,I'm sure that if I read the books in english I will like more the movie...the books don't have Viggo Mortensen😛
 
Hmm, good thread!

I read only the french translation but it was already way better than the movie. I started it in english & it's totally amazing, T is really such a good writer!!!

I think it's way better to have read the book be4 to see the movie. I'm lucky coz I belong to the category of ppl who were already lotr's fan be4 the movie.
I think the movie somehow stole the greatness of the book. Like picture of the actors on the new edition, that's crappy !!!

But I like the movie. For such a book, it was very difficult to make a movie which would be faithful to the book. I think Tolkien wasq against the idea, & you can guess that since he had created it all, he wanted to keep this imaginary that you can't find in a movie since you have images before your eyes.
It was a hard job & he did ok. Even tho I'm soooooooooo angry about the Arwen part & Tom bombadil missing, the whole movie is good, really good.
He he he, when you know the fans community existing for Tolkien, I guess it was pretty stressing coz he knew the fans would react very strongly if it was to be crappy.
 
I've read all 3 books and seen all 3 movies. I think the movies are a very good adaptation of the books. There are some things I would have liked to see such as Tom Bombadil but I know you can't fit everything in the movies...I think PJ did a great job w/ them! 🙂
 
I for one hated Tom Bom. He was all happy and 'lets go dance in the green pastures my little hobbit chums' for my liking. My fave character has to be:
Books:
Saruman or Sam
Movies:
Boromir or Sam
