Lounge/ Common Room/ Tea Bar - Thread #4

Today was my last day of Senior Year! 😱 I didn't bother going to last period since like no one was at school today... And even though I'm coming back next year for prerequisites, it's still kind of sad how I won't see most of the people I've known since Freshman year ever again. 🙁

I entered ENTER by mistake 😛 I was saying that finishing high school is a sad momento but also a YAY moment! 😀

Funny fact that happened to me this week. So, my father called me back after I left him a voicemail for father's day. He asked about my life and all and how I would handle paying for my college/uni fees once I start school again. I told him I planned on taking a student loan for the uni fees and paying with my cash from work for books and school stuff. A few minutes before, he had told he didn't have a lot of money these days (because he has to pay his ex-girlfriend each month for my step-sister's stuff and he still has to pay some amount to my mom too while I still live there) and he couldn't pay for my driving lesson anytime soon. But when I talked about my school fees, he kept saying he would help me and pay for me if he had to.....

How can he pay my school fees if he doesn't even have enough money to pay for my driving lessons? (which are like 10% of what my uni fees will be)

I found it kind of ironic...

okay, life story over, carry on XD

Happy midsummer!

Midsummer day simply refers to the period of time centered upon the summer solstice, but more often refers to specific European celebrations that accompany the actual solstice, or that take place on a day between June 21 and June 24, and the preceding evening. The exact dates vary between different cultures. Midsummer is especially important in the cultures of Scandinavia, Estonia and Latvia where it is the most celebrated holiday apart from Christmas.

Raising and dancing around a maypole (majstång or midsommarstång) is an activity that attracts families and many others. Before the maypole is raised, greens and flowers are collected and used to cover the entire pole. People dancing around the pole listen to traditional music and sing songs such as Små grodorna associated with the holiday. Some wear traditional folk costumes or crowns made of wild springs and wildflowers on their heads. The year's first potatoes, Soused herring, Chives, Sour Cream, Beer, Snaps and the first strawberries of the season are on the menu. Drinking songs (Snapsvisor) are also important at this feast, and many drink heavily.

I won't celebrate today but did it at work yesterday. We did have a small maypole, dance "så grodorna" (Little frogs) and I wore crown made of flowers. Sadly no pic of that.

Ok, when you where a crown of flowers, you best take a picture of yourself. And share it with the world!!
Happy midsummer!

Even though I must say that dancing around the maypole is the worst and most embarrassing event known to mankind.

You will not see me doing that in a million years. I hated it even as a kid.
Even worse back then was all the adults who insisted that it would be fun and thought I was just shy.
It's true that I was shy but that's was not the main reason I refused. It's just stupid and in my opinion a very humiliating thing to do that I simply didn't want to take part in.

Besides that I don't mind midsummer per se... as long as people could learn that you don't need to BBQ just because it's midsummer.
If the weather sucks it's better to eat and cook indoors imho.

I want some midsummer celebration here too!!!! Looks like fun!!! 😀

Incredibly silly indeed but I don't totally agree. I hate it when people try and force you to do something because it's "fun". In the right context I don't mind being silly. I just have trouble with doing it on comand. Yesterday I didn't mind it at all. First time in probably over 20 years. Doing it with mostly adults? Let me put it this way. In that sence I get why people drink so much on midsummer. Personally I just rather stay away. Then again I'm uptight and boring so not that surprising.

If it fits your personality I'm sure it can be a blast.

Me an sk73 might not be the most positive about midsummer but it's hugely loved.

I think there is a mouse in my bedroom, I saw something that looked like one early this morning, now I need the motivation to get the bedroom tidy to try and find it. Any tips? I hate cleaning!

ughhh I suck at cleaning! but music helps me do it :)
Ten years ago I stayed up on midsummer morning to see the sun come up- for most of the time I was sitting on one of two benches on the hill which overlooks my town. The weirdest part was when an animal wandered down the path through the woods behind me- I think it was either a fox or a small deer, but it was too dark and moving too quickly to be sure!

I think Midsummer would be soooo fun!! But I'm a dancing fool, so...

You should have been here with my sister and aunt... they're dancing fools too 😉 😀
I took photo's of it instead, not so much of a dancer myself.... though I think I got some bugs in my hair after the wreaths of flowers I made for us *shakes head like a dog*

Oh Frooley welcome back!! 🙂 How was LA?? 🙂

It was great, can't wait to go back. Not a place I would like to live in, but it's nice to visit! Saw the SMG wax-model at Madame Tussaud and Jay Leno IRL 😀

Luckily it wasn't too hot, they had a weather condition they call "june gloom" which made walking outside a lot more pleasant. When I go back in august/september I'll probably feel the scorning sun all day long...

Oh God, I was at work tonight and the shopping centre the branch is in got evacuated - a man jumped off the third floor and has since died in hospital.

I didn't see anything (for which I am glad) but I feel sick and a bit shaken just thinking about it.

Horrible thing to happen. 🙁
