So some people may know that I am not he biggest fan of spike or 'Spuffy' but I was just wondering how people believe That Buffy and spike where in love, I mean it was obvious during the season 6 that she was using him, then in season 7 Buffy tells Spike she loves him, and he then says "No you don't but thanks for saying it" I mean I don't understand why people believe it was love

I think she loved him in her own way. Its like there is many ways to love someone. I dont think it was or would ever be a love like she had for angel, but yet it wasn't like a love she had for Xander either. I think it was kinda like a love hate relationship, and alittle like the kinda love she had for Riley... Thats just my opinion.

Yeah im with you BEG. I think she told him becuase she knew/thought he was going to die and she wanted to say something nice so why not say something he wanted to hear. But no I dont think think she was in love with him I just think for the place that she was in during the sixth season she needed him and by seventh season she grew somewhat dependent on him.

Yikes... do you even want to get us started? 🙂

Buffy might have used Spike in season six... that I'll agree with, but there are many instances that I feel can be used in the 'love' argument. I first point to "Hells Bells" where Buffy tells Spike that it hurts to see him with someone else. Definite sign there that some affection is brewing.

Then, I invite you to watch season seven over again. Watch for the growing relationship that happens between the two, especially after Buffy finds out that Spike got his soul back for her . Their relationship really starts to unfold. It might not have gotten romantic in a sexual way, but it's definitely there. The only person who Buffy could trust was Spike. The only person she wanted to be with and was with after being kicked out by her friends was Spike.

Last point: look at Buffy's face at the end of Chosen. During Spike's flaming end, when their hands on fire, it's plainly written on her face... the emotion is there. And Buffy's realization that Spike was the one who saved the world at the end.

Okay, rant over! I tried my best.

You tell him SpikedBuffy. Show him who's boss!!
Emmm But I just have to look at the fact that Angel was back for like 2 minuets and she was already making out with him, and all always took Buffy's face in that scene as like a happiness of what she had just said to spike, and that he understood that she was not in love with him!

I do think that she loved him in her own way and that when she told him at the end of the series, she meant it. I would say she had grown quite attacted to him and cared for him during season 7. True, their relationship did not start out well (her using him for sex in season 6) but I think that after that she began to show real feelings for him.

I think the reason that Spike told her that she didn't really love him was because he figured she was just saying that because he was dying. Maybe he thought she was pittying him. And she'd pretty much rejected him for a long time, whenever the idea of love came up, so he probably did not really know what she felt. He didn't want to set himself for truly believing that she loved him because he was dying at that moment.

i think she loved him, but wasnt in love with him. maybe just loved him like she loved xander and willow.
well, not exactly like but you know what i mean.

he definately loved her though!

That I could agree with, she loved him, but was not in Love!
I'm neither Spuffy, Bangel, Riffy or Xanfy but to me she had love for each of them in different ways.
Xander, Best Friend.
Riley, the opposite of Angel, allowed her to look at the sexual aspect of a relationship, and allowed her to love him for that.
Angel, ok i'll say it...first love. We always love our first love, and often hope that one day we can go back to that.
Spike. Yes Buffy loved him, she even told Angel so. 'He is in my heart.'
It was more then what she felt for Xander, less then what she felt for Angel, and different then what she felt for Riley.
She could never have had a lasting relationship with Spike, and i do think if he had left the cave with her they would have had a mature relationship from it, but honest to goodness, first thought in the morning last at night, can't eat cant sleep, and think kinda love....nope sorry.

Yeah i agree with Dia dela muerte i don't really think that it was true love but not saying that there wasn't a bond of some kind there....

I don't think I could have explained it better.

Not in love. She "loved" him only in that he reminded her of Angel.

I do think that Buffy loved Spike. Like Wesley said in an AtS episode, Love isn't always about holding hands. Buffy felt comfort with Spike and I think that from the time she learned he got his soul, her feelings for him got stronger.
