Lovefilm (or other online movie rentalists!)

I am signed up to Lovefilm and I have the usual fare on my list of movies and TV shows, but I want novelty films, niche films and films I have never heard of - none genre specific, so please give me suggestions.

For now two movies come to mind Withnail & I which is a british movie, classic, also an 80's movie called Biloxi Blues which not many people seem to know about but its a hidden gem. Agreed with spoons suggestion of Spun aswell loved it 🙂

The Incredible Shrinking Man is an awesome movie - sad that Eddie Murphy is remaking it. Yes, Eddie Murphy, that guy who hasn't made a good movie in at least 10 years (not including VO work).

You've actually listed 5 movies I already own.
I love Crouching, Hero, House and Mullholland AND O Brother is one of my favourite movies - it is where I got my stage name (Soggybottom) from!

I will check out Dark City though.

Some of my suggestions are already posted. I was going to say Cidade de Deus (City of God), We are England and O Brother were art thou. I'm not really into underground-ish cinema. It doesn't really exist in the Netherlands (that is to say, there's no real market for it, and therefore noone really cares. Instead they go mental for everything Eddie Murphy has ever done :s) Other than that, some more films you probably already know or own: Brazil, Hable con Ella (Talk to her), Bright Young Things (directed by Stephen Fry!), Mars Attacks!, Nightwatch and Daywatch (They're russian. And, total awesomeness!)

Anyway, if you're feeling really adventurous, I would like to recommend some modern German cinema. Lola Rennt (Lola runs) you probably know already, and Der Untergang (Downfall) too.

Goodbye Lenin? Gegen die Wand (Head-On, really sad), Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei (The Edukators). They're all really good, provided you have nothing against listening to German for 2 hours 😉

That's the one that I meant matey, remakes are for sissies.

Shortbus, I watched for all the wrong reasons and didn't actually like it.

But... the U.S. national anthem scene is one of the funniest things ever filmed!

However it did just remind me to watch Kidz again.

I generally like Larry Clark, so if you liked Kidz, I enjoyed Ken Park too and it might be worth the watch, though it was a bit aimless.

Fargo is fantastic. On the subject of Death Note, while the movie is rather lackluster, the anime series is phenomenal, and even if anime isn't your thing, I strongly recommend that you watch it.
