Lucasfilm is suing a real-life Jedi Lightsaber school

The Force is perhaps too strong with this one. So strong, in fact, that he’s drawn the ire of the Empire itself: Disney.

Disney’s Lucasfilm, which owns the rights to everything in the Star Wars universe, is suing one Michael Brown, the owner of several businesses that offer Lightsaber training sessions. In a suit filed to US federal court (pdf), Lucasfilm’s lawyers argue that Brown, who also goes by Michael Flynn and Flynn Michael, infringed upon the company’s intellectual property by advertising and selling classes and merchandise that use the words “Jedi,” “Lightsaber,” and a logo similar to the official Jedi Order symbol. The Hollywood Reporter first reported this story.

“Defendants regularly use the Lucasfilm Trademarks without authorization in connection with their businesses,” the suit reads. “Among other infringing activities, Defendants use a logo that is nearly identical, and confusingly similar, to Lucasfilm’s trademark Jedi Order logo.”

Yeah, and as I recall, Lucasfilm was responsible for the cancellation of the original "Battlestar Galactica," too, because their special effects were too similar to the "Star Wars" effects.

Some folks just have no sense of humor.

(I wonder if anyone ever told George Lucas that his idea for light sabers was originally used in a series of science fiction novels about a character called Star Ranger (NOT Star Lord) It was originally called a "force blade," which consisted of a small generator in the shape of a knife or sword handle, that produced a force field so thin that it could literally slice through the space between the molecules of ant solid material, and so strong that it was literally unbreakable as long as it was turned on. And I won't even go into the fact that he admitted that the whole "Star Wars" universe was based on John Carter and Flash Gordon)

Lucas sued Two Live Crew too and made that feller change his name.
