Mac or PC?

i feel like ill be able to learn pretty quickly, im generation y so i think were the computer generation or something so this should help my adjustment period lol. but yes i would love to hear peoples experiences.
and as of now i dont need my computer for work this is just something i was thinking about doing in future which im in no hurry for to be honest.

OK so just my opinion being and everyday user that wants performance etc for art stuff for now and for the future... Mac. Hands down. It''s smooth, fast, big (lol I have a 27" iMac by the way) and it is very very easy to adjust to, in fact I've almost forgotten how to use a pc. My daughter had win7 then 10 on a Lenovo...*shudders*... it has been a horrid experience. I've always been a windows user and always gone through Dell. Never again (if possible). If I have a choice in the future when I need a new system it will be saving for another Mac. I have also moved over to an iPhone now from a Samsung. Also best move ever. I'm still learning but its fun learning and I class myself as a newb as far as computers are concerned.

Advice for you from my own experience.

Learn. Investigate. Question. And be realistic for now and for the future.

Just fyi my machine is not top end, in fact it's far from but I will say SSD all the way. Whatever you can get. For me I had to compromise due to finances so I went with the Fusion Drive. I needed the SSD in some way or another and it does make all the difference.

Apple is expensive yes. Is it worth it? IMO YES.

My husband just switched from PC to a Macbook Air and he loves it. It took him a while to get used to it, but a few online tutorials later and I doubt he would ever go back to PC personally (professionally he has to use a PC)

Me, I'm PC. I've never felt like I've needed a Mac. I got an Ultrabook last year for my birthday and I adore it, it's just as good looking as a Macbook but half the price 😉

I've only ever had Windows computers at home so I can't comment too much on Apple. I do like their system though. It's more intuitive than Windows. I did learn how to use a computer on one of these cuties, so it was my first experience too.

The only issue I'd have choosing between them is for when I play games. It's never something I've looked into and Windows seemed easier when I bought a gaming laptop at the time.

As for laptops, I only recommend Macbook Air if you want to avoid any hassle.

After the quality freefall of Lenovo in 2011, there's no reliable laptops other than Macbook Air now.

And don't buy Macbook Pro. It's also less reliable than Air and much more expensive.

The failure/return rate of Chromebook is suspicious as well.

Have to disagree with you there, my MacBook Pro has been going strong for years and it's better than ever with the upgrade to SSD. I can't speak for the newer models though.

Having been a Mac user for ages, I'd never go back to Windows for my own use at home. I get to use Windows at work and hate it. Mac OS has a bit of a learning curve but once you get into it it's really easy and intuitive, plus stuff you plug in generally works from the get go (no messing about with drivers and all that sort of carry-on). The only downside to Macs for me is the cost. I tend to go for Apple certified refurbished kit from their online store but it can be a bit hit and miss as to what is available, however the savings can be very good. I'm typing this on my "Early 2011" MacBook and it's been very reliable and a joy to own 🙂

Early 2011? upgrade boyoh! I didn't want to go from my 11 to 13 but darn glad I did. It's even better.

What are the main differences. I'm not keen on the latest MBPros but I'd certainly consider one a little more up to date.

I think the big difference in '11 to '13 is the unibody. There are just little 'solid' things about the body in general. Things that when I saw it I said 'oh I dont like that' and now I cant imagine not having it. As much as a beast as the 11 MBP was this 13 really beats it. Surprises me to say it. Like how the '11 had that little "button" like thing on the front to open it up? it's just an indent now. Aside from internals, the changes are cosmetics, but they really do make a difference. The biggest thing that scared me when I got it was the no optical drive, but I honestly cant even REMEMBER using a CD anymore now.

I think mine must've been one of the first unibody models. I used to use a Powerbook before getting it and that had the push button opening thing but this has the indent. It does have a Superdrive and I still use it occasionally for ripping CDs (£3 supermarket CDs have been a real boost to my music collection 😉) and watching DVDs when Mrs P has something on TV I'm not fussed about. Wish I could use it for blu-ray though 😉

To be fair, the model is "Early 2011" - I've only had it since 2012 when I bought it from Apple's refurbished store 😉
On the other side of the argument I know plenty of people who wouldn't use a Mac if you paid them because they prefer Windows but, in my experience, Macs work straight out of the box and Windows PCs - not so much, unless the newer versions of Windows have changed it considerably. My advice would be to see if a friend with a Mac will let you take it for a test drive so you can see what you think of the GUI. You won't get the full experience just playing with a display model in the store, although the Apple Store staff are usually pretty helpful if you live near one of those.
I also know folks who swear by Linux computers but I think those are mainly dyed-in-the-wool tech geeks 😉
